-----
Viridian City is a small, nature-loving city that is enveloped in green year-round. It is located between 2 to the north, 1 to the south, and 22 to the west.

Route 21 is a water route at the south of Pallet Town. There is a small grass patch at the northern part, and Water-type Trainers roam around this area. Head south to Cinnabar Island.

Viridian Gym
The Viridian Gym is located on a hill on the north side of town. The building is open, but no one is around. According to an elderly man outside the entrance, the Gym did not have a Gym Leader until recently, when Blue from Pallet Town took the role. He is often away, however, so challenging the Viridian Gym will need to wait.

A volcanic eruption three years ago had destroyed the island totally, leaving only the Pokémon Center standing. There are hills here where you can use HM08 Rock Climb, but you cannot use it right now.

You will see a boy, Blue, standing at the hilly platform. He said that he is willing to have a battle with you only if you have obtained 7 Kanto Badges.
The Trainer House is located in the middle of the city. Built near Indigo Plateau, the ultimate destination for Pokémon Trainers, the Trainer House allows participants to battle in a controlled environment. According to visitors inside the building, only the best Trainers gather here. These Trainers turn out to be real-life people met via the Pokéwalker, and will appear after the accessory is synced with the game. Up to 10 additional Trainers may be encountered this way. Any Pokémon in a Trainer's party above level 50 will have their level reduced to 50. Battles here give no experience or money, but the player will receive 1 BP for each victory. If the player has not used the Pokéwalker, the default opponent is Cal, whose team includes the final forms of each of Professor Elm's Pokémon.

Now surf to the right of the map to head to Route 20.

1 is a peaceful, country road that leads south from Viridian City to Pallet Town.

There are plenty of trainers here on the water, and Seafoam Islands is found around the middle of this map. Head right until you see a cave. Enter the cave, which is the Seafoam Islands.

Cinnabar Gym
We will skip the Seafoam Islands part for now. Climb up the ladder to realise that there is a gym within the island. Blaine is the leader of the temporary gym, specialises in Fire-type Pokémon. In order to get to him, you have to pass through the trainers as the gym is quite small. When you have beaten the Trainers, they will step back. Blaine have three strong Fire-type Pokémon, but a Water-type Pokémon will certainly have a advantages to win the battle.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
These pages follow the remade Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Gold and Silver. The guide for those games can be found here.

Viridian City

Viridian City

Viridian City is a small, nature-loving city that is enveloped in green year-round. It is located between Route 2 to the north, Route 1 to the south, and Route 22 to the west.

Viridian Gym

The Viridian Gym is located on a hill on the north side of town. The building is open, but no one is around. According to an elderly man outside the entrance, the Gym did not have a Gym Leader until recently, when a young man from Pallet Town took the role. He is often away, however, so challenging the Viridian Gym will need to wait.

Trainer House

Trainer House, 1F
Trainer House, B1F

Route 1

Route 1

Route 1 is a peaceful, country road that leads south from Viridian City to Pallet Town.

Pallet Town

Pallet Town

Pallet Town is a rather small, sleepy town, located between the tall grasses of Route 1 and the waters of Route 21. Each of the two northern houses is home to a different former Champion of the Kanto region. Professor Oak's laboratory is located in the south.

Red's house

The northwest house belongs to Red and his mother, but Red is currently away. He defeated his neighbor and rival, Blue, to earn the Champion title, but gave up that role within the Pokémon League in order to continue his training. His mother is proud of him, but still worries that he is all alone somewhere.

Blue's house

The northeast house belongs to Blue and his sister, Daisy, but Blue is away as well. She reveals that her brother serves as the Viridian City Gym Leader, and that his frequent traveling causes problems for the Gym's challengers.

Spa Day with Daisy

Speak to Daisy between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, and she offers to groom a single Pokémon. Grooming increases a Pokémon's friendship rating, and boosting this value is essential in order to obtain certain Pokémon. Daisy offers her grooming service once per day.

Professor Oak's Lab

The large building to the south is Professor Oak's laboratory. Speak with the professor to have him rate your Pokédex progress. He also asks that you visit again after earning all eight Kanto Gym Badges, as he will have a gift for you.
