I've actually always wondered that myself. I've thought about mentioning it in the past but I think it would cause a lot of confusion. Orange Islands is the second season going by subtitles, but production wise it's both Season 2 and 3. I think it would lead to many people questioning it which is why I've never brought it up. - unsigned comment from HoennMaster (talk • contribs)

Anyway, I think the best option is to define seasons by opening, as otherwise splits like the Kanto/Orange Islands don't have any relevance to the plot of the episodes and only to the production. --SnorlaxMonster 04:42, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Except that there's a clear definition of "season", it's in the article, it's the normal definition of what a season is, and the dvd seasons and openings have jack-shit to do with the actual pokemon seasons. The Pokemon.com listing, quite bluntly, is how the episodes were actually aired (or meant to be aired at the very least), and is how we should have it. (A cursory look at when episodes actually aired would tend to confirm this. The current list we're using is just factually wrong per our very own definition of season, and needs to change --Evil Figment (talk) 07:08, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Season names

"It should be noted that the concept of seasons does not exist in Japan" paragraph

Pokémon itself does not have seasons in Japan because it constantly airs every week, but other Japanese shows do have something roughly equivalent to seasons (US) or series (UK/Australia), so I don't think it's entirely accurate to say that there's no concept of seasons. Not to mention the Best Wishes series in Japan had several chapters that were referred to as "seasons", even though they're not exactly the same as the American definition of seasons. I'm also not sure that explaining how American broadcast seasons work is relevant since the dub now airs episodes weekly like in Japan but is still divided into seasons. --Poliwhirl (talk) 23:52, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

I'm not familiar with the anime's release schedule, so I just checked, and the last few seasons of the dub seem to have took a break during January, so the part about it airing every week now isn't correct either.
