A Move Reminder (Japanese: わざおしえマニア Move-Teaching Maniac), sometimes called a move relearner by fans, is a character who allows Pokémon to relearn any move that they were able to learn from a previous level-up (usually in exchange for a Exchangeable item). Reasons for this include none of that species being able to be obtained at an early enough level to actually learn the move (e.g. Zapdos and AncientPower in Generation IV), or the species having more than four starting moves (e.g. Kecleon).

A Move Reminder (Japanese: ' Move Reminder) or Pokémon Move Maniac (Japanese: ポケモンわざマニア Pokémon Move Maniac), also known as a Move Tutor in English and sometimes called a move relearner by fans, is a character who can teach a Pokémon any move that its species is able to learn by leveling up, and from Generation VI onward, special moves that it has forgotten (such as Egg Moves). The Move Reminder usually requires a Heart Scale in exchange for their services.

In Galar, Jack provides Move Reminder services free of charge (among other services).

From Legends: Arceus onward, the Move Reminder is no longer an NPC in the game, and instead a Pokémon's moves can be changed at any time outside of battle by going into the Moves section in a Pokémon's summary.

Terminology
NPCs who provide this functionality often have their own personal title that they introduce themselves as when the player first interacts with them. This name is often specific to that particular NPC, and is not used by NPCs in other games that provide the same service.

Separate from their personal title, aspects of the game interface may refer to the service itself by a particular name, which is distinct from the personal title of the NPC and is usually consistent between games.

General name
In Ruby, the sign outside his house refers to him as Move Tutor (Japanese: わざおしえマニア Move-Teaching Maniac). In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the sign outside refers to him as Move Maniac (Japanese: わざマニア Move Maniac).

From Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 to Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, this character is referred to as the Move Reminder (Japanese: ' Move Reminder) on the Town Map.

Personal title
* In the Generation III and IV games, as well as Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, he introduces himself as the Pokémon Move Maniac (Japanese: ポケモンわざマニア Pokémon Move Maniac), except in the English versions of Ruby, in which he instead refers to himself as the Move Tutor.
** In the Western versions of Diamond, and the English versions of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, although he does introduce himself this way, he states that he prefers to be called the Move Tutor instead.
* In XD: Gale of Darkness, he introduces himself as the Move Teacher (Japanese: わざ名人 Move Master).
* In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, she introduces herself as the reminder girl (Japanese: メモリアルガール Memorial Girl).
* In X and Y, she introduces herself as Madam Reminder (Japanese: マダム メモリアル Madam Memorial).
* In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, she introduces herself as Madam Memorial (Japanese: マダム メモリアル Madam Memorial).
* In Sword and Shield, this service is provided by Jack, among other services.

Teachable moves
Teachable moves
Move Reminders are restricted to teaching a Pokémon only moves that its species can learn; they cannot teach moves exclusive to an earlier evolution. In particular, many Pokémon that evolve by evolutionary stone have a very restricted set of learnable moves in their evolved forms compared to their unevolved forms. For example, Eevee can learn Take Down by leveling up, but none of its evolutions can; this means that an Eevee of level 25 or higher could be taught Take Down by a Move Reminder, but a Vaporeon or other Eeveelution of the same level could not.

Certain Pokémon may also be taught moves via the Move Reminder that they would not normally learn until a later level or at all by leveling up. For example, while Lopunny could normally only learn Healing Wish at level 63 by leveling up, a Move Reminder can teach the move to Lopunny before then since it also counts as one of Lopunny's starting moves. The move Rototiller can also be taught to Lopunny by a Move Reminder, and this is the only way for Lopunny to learn this move (outside of breeding).
Level-up moves
From Generation II to VI and in Generation VIII, the Move Reminder can teach a Pokémon any move that its species is able to learn at an earlier level. In Generation VII, the Move Reminder can teach a Pokémon any move it can learn via level-up, including moves it would learn at higher levels.

In Generation VI, any Pokémon bred or obtained in a Generation VI game may also be taught any move it knew when it hatched or was obtained. This includes Egg moves, a Volt Tackle bred onto Pichu, and event-exclusive moves such as the 's Happy Hour.
The Move Reminder can only teach a Pokémon moves that its species can learn in the game it is currently in. The Move Reminder cannot teach moves exclusive to a pre-evolution or alternate form, even if that Pokémon had previously known the move. (For example, in many games<!--all games other than SwSh-->, Shroomish can learn Spore via level-up but Breloom cannot, so Breloom cannot normally be taught Spore via the Move Reminder in those games.) In particular, prior to Generation VIII, many Pokémon that evolve by Evolution stone have a very restricted set of level-up moves in their evolved forms compared to their unevolved forms.

Like all methods of teaching moves (other than Pokémon Day Care), the Move Reminder cannot overwrite HM moves.
Certain Pokémon may also be taught moves via the Move Reminder that they would not normally learn until a later level or at all by leveling up. For example, in Generation VI, while Lopunny normally learns Healing Wish at level 63 by leveling up, due to also being able to learn Healing Wish at level 1 (at a level at which it is not normally obtainable in those games), it can also be taught Healing Wish by a Move Reminder at any level. Other moves can only be taught this way for reasons such as the Pokémon not being able to be obtained at a low enough level (e.g. Zapdos and Ancient Power starting in Generation IV) or the species having more than four starting moves (e.g. Kecleon).

Reminder-exclusive moves
Since the introduction of the Move Reminder, many Pokémon have had moves that they can learn at lower levels than they can normally be obtained at, particularly moves they can learn at Level 1, which are effectively exclusive to the Move Reminder. However, this is merely a restriction based on availability, not a technical restriction — these moves are still technically implemented as Level 1 moves, so a Pokémon obtained at or evolved into at Level 1 can still learn those moves.

In Scarlet and Violet, certain Pokémon have moves that are specifically exclusive to the Move Reminder, rather than being implemented as Level 1 moves. For example, in these games, Ceruledge has 4 moves exclusive to the Move Reminder; even if a Charcadet is evolved into Ceruledge at Level 1, Ceruledge is not given the opportunity to learn these moves via level-up, even though it can immediately be taught them at the Move Reminder.

Special moves
Starting in Generation VI, Pokémon obtained with special moves often can relearn those moves if they are forgotten. Whether a special move can be relearned via the Move Reminder depends on how it was obtained.

Any Pokémon hatched in Generation VI onward can relearn any move it knew when it hatched. This includes not only Egg Moves, but any other moves it knew when hatched as well (e.g. level-up moves known upon hatching, Volt Tackle bred onto Pichu, etc.). Pokémon hatched in earlier generations do not flag these moves as relearnable, so cannot relearn moves of this type even if they are transferred to a Generation VI or later game.

Pokémon obtained via Mystery Gift from Generation VI to VIII may mark specific moves as being relearnable. Early Generation VI distributions only flag event-exclusive moves (such as the List of local event Pokémon distributions in Generation VI's Happy Hour) and Egg Moves that the Pokémon knows when distributed; later Generation VI distributions and all distributions from Generation VII and VIII flag all moves the Pokémon knows when distributed (except moves introduced part-way through that generation). Pokémon distributed in earlier generations do not flag these moves as relearnable, so cannot relearn moves of this type even if they are transferred to a Generation VI or later game. In Generation IX, Event Pokémon can no longer relearn event-exclusive moves.

Special moves known due to being a DexNav in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire; QR Scanner Pokémon in Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon; or Grand Underground Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can be taught by the Move Reminder if forgotten. However, special moves known by Brilliant Pokémon in Sword and Shield, and special moves known by Tera Raid and wandering Tera Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet cannot be relearned.

If a Pokémon is given a battle-ready symbol, the Pokémon's record of relearnable moves are erased, preventing those moves from being relearned (unless they are also level-up moves in that game).

From Generation VIII onward, Pokémon's movesets are not usually carried over when transferring them via Pokémon HOME between different sets of games. Whenever a Pokémon's moveset is not carried over, its relearnable move pool is not either. For example, if a Pokémon that has a relearnable special move in Pokémon Sword and Shield is transferred to Pokémon Violet, that move will not automatically be relearnable in Pokémon Violet. However, it is possible to use Pokémon HOME's Move Reminder to learn moves that are only available in another game's relearnable move pool, provided the moves can be learned by the Pokémon in the game it is being transferred to.

TR/TM moves
In Sword and Shield, Pokémon can be taught any move they had previously learned via TR, but forgotten. If the Pokémon previously knew the move, but did not learn it via TR in Pokémon Sword or Shield, the move cannot be relearned this way.

In Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon can be taught any move they had previously learned via TM, but forgotten. If the Pokémon previously knew the move, but did not learn it via TM in Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, the move cannot be relearned this way.

<!--If a Pokémon is given a battle-ready symbol, the Pokémon's record of relearnable moves are erased, preventing those moves from being relearned (unless they are also level-up moves in that game).-->

Restrictions
Like all methods of teaching moves (other than Pokémon Day Care), the Move Reminder cannot overwrite HM moves.

In Pokémon XD, if a Pokémon has four moves, the Move Reminder will not be able to teach it a move until the Move Deleter deletes one of the Pokémon's current moves.
In Pokémon XD, if a Pokémon has four moves, the Move Reminder will not be able to teach it a move until the Move Deleter deletes one of the Pokémon's current moves.

While Generation II has no formal Move Reminder, in Pokémon Stadium 2, after defeating the Elite Four and Champion at the Gym Leader Castle, the player will be allowed to reteach a move to one of the Pokémon that was involved in the battle.
From Generations III to VII, as well as in Sword and Shield and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Move Reminder is a specific NPC. In Legends: Arceus and Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon can be taught moves via the Move Reminder directly from the menu.

While Generation II has no formal Move Reminder, in Pokémon Stadium 2, after defeating the Elite Four and Champion at the Gym Leader Castle, the player can re-teach a move to one of the Pokémon that was involved in the battle. However, there are some restrictions: the six Pokémon must come from a Generation I or Generation II core series game (i.e. they cannot be rental Pokémon), they cannot be registered, and the player must defeat the Elite Four and the Champion in a single sitting (i.e. without using the Suspend option). For some Pokémon that can only be obtained at high levels, this is the only way to learn certain moves; for example, this is the only way for Mewtwo to learn Disable in Generation I or II, as it can only be obtained at Level 70 or above.

A Move Reminder (Japanese: 技思い出し Move Reminder) or Pokémon Move Maniac (Japanese: ポケモンわざマニア Pokémon Move Maniac), also known as a Move Tutor in English and sometimes called a move relearner by fans, is a character who can teach a Pokémon any move that its species is able to learn by leveling up, and from Generation VI onward, special moves that it has forgotten (such as Egg Moves). The Move Reminder usually requires a Heart Scale in exchange for their services.

In Galar, Jack provides Move Reminder services free of charge (among other services).

From Pokémon Legends: Arceus onward, the Move Reminder is no longer an NPC in the game, and instead a Pokémon's moves can be changed at any time outside of battle by going into the Moves section in a Pokémon's summary.

In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the sign outside his house refers to him as Move Tutor (Japanese: わざおしえマニア Move-Teaching Maniac). In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the sign outside refers to him as Move Maniac (Japanese: わざマニア Move Maniac).

From Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 to Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, this character is referred to as the Move Reminder (Japanese: 技思い出し Move Reminder) on the Town Map.

The Move Reminder can only teach a Pokémon moves that its species can learn in the game it is currently in. The Move Reminder cannot teach moves exclusive to a pre-evolution or alternate form, even if that Pokémon had previously known the move. (For example, in many games, Shroomish can learn Spore via level-up but Breloom cannot, so Breloom cannot normally be taught Spore via the Move Reminder in those games.) In particular, prior to Generation VIII, many Pokémon that evolve by Evolution stone have a very restricted set of level-up moves in their evolved forms compared to their unevolved forms.

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, certain Pokémon have moves that are specifically exclusive to the Move Reminder, rather than being implemented as Level 1 moves.

Early Generation VI distributions only flag event-exclusive moves (such as the Pokémon Center Tokyo Bay Inkay's Happy Hour) and Egg Moves that the Pokémon knows when distributed; later Generation VI distributions and all distributions from Generation VII and VIII flag all moves the Pokémon knows when distributed (except moves introduced part-way through that generation). Pokémon distributed in earlier generations do not flag these moves as relearnable, so cannot relearn moves of this type even if they are transferred to a Generation VI or later game. In Generation IX, Event Pokémon can no longer relearn event-exclusive moves.

Special moves known due to being a hidden Pokémon in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire; Island Scan Pokémon in Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon; or Grand Underground Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can be taught by the Move Reminder if forgotten. However, special moves known by Brilliant Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and special moves known by Tera Raid and wandering Tera Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet cannot be relearned.

Reason: Confirm whether giving a Pokémon a battle-ready symbol deletes relearnable TR moves

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Pokémon can be taught any move they had previously learned via TR, but forgotten. If the Pokémon previously knew the move, but did not learn it via TR in Pokémon Sword or Shield, the move cannot be relearned this way.

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon can be taught any move they had previously learned via TM, but forgotten. If the Pokémon previously knew the move, but did not learn it via TM in Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, the move cannot be relearned this way.

Locations

From Generations III to VII, as well as in Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Move Reminder is a specific NPC. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon can be taught moves via the Move Reminder directly from the menu.

Move Reminders can be found in the following locations:

Pokémon Stadium 2
