32 is a lengthy, Trainer-heavy route that stretches southward along the coastline. The mysterious Ruins of Alph lie off to the northwest, but only the first of the four chambers can be accessed at this point.
31 is a short, winding path, linking 30 with Violet City to the west. A cave entrance on the route's east side leads to Dark Cave, but the area is difficult to navigate without certain field moves.

Ruins of Alph
The ancient Ruins of Alph are believed to date back at least 1,500 years. The script seen in these crumbling structures is the earliest known writing system in the world, but it is unclear which appeared first, these characters or the Unown.

{| class="expandable" align="center" style="background: #; roundy; border: 5px solid #;"
A Friendly Face
When you enter the gate, Lyra/Ethan catches up to you and wonders aloud how you got past them. She/He gives you a Vs. Recorder, a device that can record your Pokémon battles and share the clips with friends, before heading into Violet City.

Violet City
Violet City is an old village surrounded by trees. The city stands between 31 to the east, 32 to the south, and 36 to the west. It is a common destination for new Pokémon Trainers, as a Pokémon academy and the Violet Gym are both located here. A tall building known as Sprout Tower stands on the north side of town.

Berry Trader
A Juggler can be found standing in front of the Pokémon Center. He gives out three different types of Berry in exchange for a Shard. The type of Berry received depends on the Shard's color.

North chamber
Pass through the ancient structures to enter the northern chamber. Read the hint to identify the Pokémon, and move and rotate the pieces to reconstruct the puzzle, which glows briefly when completed. The floor gives way, dropping you into the main underground chamber where the first ten forms of Unown, A through J, have awakened. Shortly after, you are greeted by a young researcher. He is so impressed that you solved the first puzzle that he hands over the Unown Report, which automatically records any caught Unown.

Visit the Pokémon Center and speak to the man standing next to the PC. He introduces himself as Primo, a TV host from The Show Me Show!. He asks for your opinion of him, as he is a bit of a celebrity. If the correct combination of phrases is selected, you can unlock Pokémon Storage System or receive Pokémon Eggs. There are eight wallpapers available, as well as three different Eggs: a Mareep, a Wooper, and a Slugma.

Time for a Trade
Visit the house to the southwest of the Pokémon Center to find a boy who would like to trade Pokémon. He is willing to part with his Onix in exchange for a Bellsprout. Bellsprout can be found nearby on Routes 31 and 32.

Earl's Pokémon Academy
The local Pokémon academy is run by a man named Earl Dervish, who is initially found standing between the Gym and Poké Mart. Speak to him, and he asks if you have defeated the local Gym; say no, and he leads you to the school while he twirls around at every turn along the way. The school teaches inexperienced Trainers about the basics of battle. A blackboard in the front of the room describes the five status ailments that can affect a Pokémon.

Head downwards and climb the ladder to leave. Return to the northern chamber and inspect the wall behind the carving. There is a line of odd text on the wall which resembles the word escape. ===Sprout Tower===
Sprout Tower is a large pagoda held together by a flexible pillar that sways from side to side. This flexibility protects the tower from earthquakes and symbolizes the battles occurring on the upper floors. It is inhabited by Sages who study diligently and teach that all living beings coexist through cooperation. It is said that the swaying pillar was once a 100-foot-tall Bellsprout.

HM03 and HM04 are required to reach the three other puzzles, and unlock the other Unown forms. After receiving the Pokégear, tuning into the Mysterious Transmission will improve the chances of meeting an Unown form that you have not yet encountered. This is also one of the few places where wild Natu and Smeargle can be found.

Route 32 (con't)
South of the ruins are two men standing near a hill. The first gives you a Miracle Seed, while the man on the hill hands out 05. A Repel can be found in the tall grass west of Picnicker Liz. Head south to reach a small inlet, and collect the Great and 09 from the shore before reaching the Pokémon Center. Further south, a shady man offers a "tasty, nutritious SlowpokeTail" for only pdollar1,000,000. On Fridays, Frieda of the Week Siblings can be found behind the Pokémon Center; speaking to her will result in a Poison Barb on the first meeting, and a List of Ribbons in the games on subsequent meetings. The Fisherman inside gives out the IV, and another patron gives out two Lures. Smash the rock outside to reach a Shell Bell, and enter Union Cave.

Union Cave is a small cave on the south end of the peninsula. Seawater wells up from underground, preventing access to the deepest parts of the cave for now. The ground-level tunnel merely connects Routes 32 and 33, but exploring the basement floors with Surf and Strength reveals two more exits that lead back to the Ruins of Alph. On the bottom floor, a wild Lapras appears once a week. If you didn't get the Onix in Violet City, then try to catch a Geodude or Onix here. Rock Throw is a move they both learn early, so it will do you well to use one of them in the Azalea Town Gym.

1F (Center)
The ground-level tunnel is a fairly straightforward path. Head northwest to reach an X Attack, then detour down to B1F for 39 and an X Defend. Head south past two Hikers and pick up the Great near Firebreather Bill. Grab the Potion sitting off to the west, then head southeast from Poké Maniac Larry to reach an Awakening, and the exit to 33.
The tower is three stories tall. The ground floor is open to tourists, who visit to see the unique style in which the tower is built. Pass by the swaying pillar  and climb the stairs to 2F.

B1F
2F (Northeast)
Return with the HM moves Surf and Strength to finally explore the rest of the cave.
Go east to battle Sage Nico and take the stairs back down to 1F.

To reach the Ruins of Alph, take the north stairs down to B1F. Surf north to reach a fork in the road; the northern path leads to Puzzle 3, while the southern path, blocked by a boulder, leads to Puzzle 4.
1F (North)
Pick up the Parlyz Heal to the south. Head west to battle Sage Chow, then climb up the western stairway.

B2F
2F (Southwest)
To reach the bottom floor, surf across the southwest pool of water on 1F to reach the stairs. Swim across another pool on B1F, and take the next flight of stairs to the north side of B2F. There is an Elixir in the northeast corner, and a Hyper Potion on the platform near Ace Trainer Nick. A wild Lapras appears in the southern pool every Friday.
Grab the X Accuracy to the north, then battle Sage Edmond in the southwest corner. Climb the southern stairway to 3F.

{| style="margin: auto;"
3F
|
Collect the Potion to the west. Continue northward to battle Sages Jin, Neal, and Troy.

When you pass the swaying pillar, you find that Silver has just defeated the elder Sage, Li. He acknowledges Silver's skill as a Pokémon Trainer and hands him a Technical Machine, but warns that he should not treat his Pokémon so harshly. Silver notices you at this point, and complains about the elder Sage being weak. He clearly has no intention of heeding the Sage's warning, as he is only interested in strong Pokémon that can win. He then uses an Escape Rope to leave the tower.

Route 33
Pick up the Escape Rope in the northeast corner, then speak to Elder Li. He welcomes you to the tower, and offers to test the bonds between you and your Pokémon.

33 is a short path that connects Union Cave to Azalea Town in the west. Rains constantly drench the landscape, which includes a single patch of grass and a small Apricorn grove.
VS Elder Li
Grass Pokémon like Li's two Bellsprout are vulnerable to Fire- and Flying attacks, so Pidgey, Hoothoot, and Cyndaquil will have little trouble getting past them. His Hoothoot, a Flying-type Pokémon, takes serious damage from Rock attacks.

Azalea Town
Azalea is a small, isolated town on the southern edge of the peninsula. Situated between Union Cave to the east and Ilex Forest to the west, the area does not get many visitors. As you head into town, a man in a black uniform is confronted by a resident near the Slowpoke Well. The guy gets chased off, and the shady man goes back to guarding the well. A second figure blocks the Azalea Gym, as well. Stop by the northwest house to meet Kurt, the Apricorn craftsman. He informs you that Team Rocket has seized control of the well and is cutting off Slowpoke tails to sell, before rushing off to save the Pokémon.
When the battle is over, Li rewards you with 70. This field move lights up even the darkest caves, but to use it outside of battle, you must first defeat the Violet Gym.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
These pages follow the remade Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Gold and Silver. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 31

Route 31

Route 31 is a short, winding path, linking Route 30 with Violet City to the west. A cave entrance on the route's east side leads to Dark Cave, but the area is difficult to navigate without certain field moves.

A Friendly Face

When you enter the gate, Lyra/Ethan catches up to you and wonders aloud how you got past them. She/He gives you a Vs. Recorder, a device that can record your Pokémon battles and share the clips with friends, before heading into Violet City.

Violet City

Violet City

Violet City is an old village surrounded by trees. The city stands between Route 31 to the east, Route 32 to the south, and Route 36 to the west.

Shard Berry Set Berries
Red Shard Red Shard A Cheri Berry Cheri Berry Pecha Berry Pecha Berry Leppa Berry Leppa Berry
Blue Shard Blue Shard B Oran Berry Oran Berry Chesto Berry Chesto Berry Wiki Berry Wiki Berry
Yellow Shard Yellow Shard C Aspear Berry Aspear Berry Sitrus Berry Sitrus Berry Iapapa Berry Iapapa Berry
Green Shard Green Shard D Rawst Berry Rawst Berry Lum Berry Lum Berry Aguav Berry Aguav Berry

Pokémon Center

Visit the Pokémon Center and speak to the man standing next to the PC. He introduces himself as Primo, a TV host from The Show Me Show!. He asks for your opinion of him, as he is a bit of a celebrity. If the correct combination of phrases is selected, you can unlock PC wallpapers or receive Pokémon Eggs.

Ailment Effect(s)
BRN Burn Damage dealt by physical moves drops to 50%; inflicts damage equal to 1/8 of maximum HP every turn.
Fire-type Pokémon cannot be burned.
FRZ Freeze Cannot move until thawed (20% chance of recovery per turn).
Ice-type Pokémon cannot be frozen.
PAR Paralysis Speed drops to 25%; cannot attack 1/4 of the time
Ground-type Pokémon cannot be paralyzed by Electric-type moves.
PSN Poison Inflicts damage equal to 1/8 of maximum HP every turn; Pokémon loses 1 HP for every four steps taken outside of battle.
Poison- and Steel-type Pokémon cannot be poisoned.
SLP Sleep Cannot move for one to four turns.

Sprout Tower, 2F
Sprout Tower, 3F

Sprout Tower

Sprout Tower is a large pagoda held together by a flexible pillar that sways from side to side. This flexibility protects the tower from earthquakes and symbolizes the battles occurring on the upper floors. It is inhabited by Sages who study diligently and teach that all living beings coexist through cooperation. It is said that the swaying pillar was once a 100-foot-tall Bellsprout.

1F (Center)

The tower is three stories tall. The ground floor is open to tourists, who visit to see the unique style in which the tower is built. Pass by the swaying pillar and climb the stairs to 2F.

2F (Northeast)

Go east to battle Sage Nico and take the stairs back down to 1F.

1F (North)

Pick up the Parlyz Heal to the south. Head west to battle Sage Chow, then climb up the western stairway.

2F (Southwest)

Grab the X Accuracy to the north, then battle Sage Edmond in the southwest corner. Climb the southern stairway to 3F.

Pick up the Escape Rope in the northeast corner, then speak to Elder Li. He welcomes you to the tower, and offers to test the bonds between you and your Pokémon.

VS Elder Li

Grass-type Pokémon like Li's two Bellsprout are vulnerable to Fire- and Flying-type attacks, so Pidgey, Hoothoot, and Cyndaquil will have little trouble getting past them. His Hoothoot, a Flying-type Pokémon, takes serious damage from Rock-type attacks.

When the battle is over, Li rewards you with TM70 (Flash). This field move lights up even the darkest caves, but to use it outside of battle, you must first defeat the Violet Gym.

Violet Gym

Violet Gym
Violet City Pokémon Gym
Leader: Falkner

The Elegant Master of Flying Pokémon

The Violet Gym specializes in Flying-type Pokémon. Flying-type moves are super effective against Bug-, Fighting-, and Grass-type Pokémon, while Flying-type Pokémon are weak to Electric-, Ice-, and Rock-type moves.

The Gym's first floor is empty, except for a wooden platform that carries challengers to an upper level. There are two Gym Trainers on this elevated platform, but a semi-transparent walkway allows challengers to reach the Gym Leader directly.

Falkner's Pidgeotto can use Gust to deal serious damage to Bug Pokémon, and Grass-type Pokémon like Chikorita. It may not be the most difficult Pokémon to defeat, but it is able to use Roost to restore its health and increase its longevity. Flying Pokémon can do little against the high Defense of Rock-type Pokémon; if you traded for the boy's Onix, counterattack with Rock Throw for an easy victory.

Violet Gym
Zephyr Badge

After the battle, Falkner awards you the Zephyr Badge, which ensures obedience of all Pokémon up to level 20 and enables the use of Rock Smash in the field. He also gives you TM51 (Roost) as a prize.

Elm and the Egg

Professor Elm calls when you step outside the Gym, and says that they have discovered something about the Mystery Egg. He does not go into detail, but wants you to bring the Egg along with you on your travels. He informs you that his aide is in the nearby Poké Mart, and asks that you pay him a visit.

Poké Mart

Elm's aide is waiting for you near the counter. Agree to the professor's request, and he returns the Mystery Egg to you. It seems that after you left the lab, Elm got a phone call and he soon decided that no one would be more suited to care for an Egg than you. The aide goes on to explain that in order for a Pokémon to grow and hatch from an Egg, it must spend time with other active Pokémon. He then leaves to return to the lab.

The Mysterious Girl

When you leave the Poké Mart, you are met by a mysterious girl dressed in a kimono. She notices the Mystery Egg, and realizes that it was passed from Mr. Pokémon, to Professor Elm, to you. She calls it an important Egg and asks that you take good care of it for her, before leaving southward.
