Misty's Azurill (Japanese: カスミのルリリ Kasumi's Ruriri) was a Pokémon acquired by Misty in the Kanto region, and her eleventh overall.

History

Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire

Azurill and Misty

Azurill is the child of Tracey's Marill, though it is unknown which Pokémon was the other parent. Misty mentioned that Tracey gave it to her when it was just an Egg.

Azurill debuted in The Scheme Team, when Ash and his friends arrived in Pallet Town to embark on Ash's journey to challenge the Battle Frontier.

In The Right Place and the Right Mime, Azurill paired up with Tracey's Marill to fight off Team Rocket's attack on Professor Oak's Laboratory.

Later, Azurill accompanied Misty while she was on her way back to the Cerulean Gym, with the group accompanying them on their way to the Battle Factory. In A Real Cleffa-Hanger, Team Rocket attacked the group as they picnicked at the foot of Mt. Moon. Azurill, notably, befriended a wild Cleffa who had become separated from its family. The group eventually foiled another Team Rocket scheme and helped the Cleffa reunite with its family. Afterwards, Misty and Azurill left Ash and the others and returned to the Cerulean Gym.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series

Azurill reappeared in A Fated Face-Off!. During the episode, it reunited with Ash and watched as he and its Trainer battled over a wild Clauncher. After Misty won the battle and caught Clauncher, it celebrated with her and Psyduck.

Personality and characteristics

Despite being small, Azurill is already powerful, assisting in the effort to fend off Team Rocket in The Right Place and the Right Mime. Much like Togepi before it, Azurill is usually held in Misty's arms.

As a baby Pokémon, Azurill is very playful, as seen when it was playing with a wild Cleffa, using its ball-like tail to entertain the Star Shape Pokémon. It is also very sociable, helpful, and friendly towards other Pokémon, as seen when it healed Pikachu from his injuries by using Refresh.

Trivia

  • Azurill is the only Pokémon hatched from an Egg in the anime to have a confirmed relation with a main character's Pokémon.
  • Azurill was seen using more moves than its parent.
  • Azurill has the lowest base stat total of any Pokémon owned by a main character.
