Gyarados Splashes In! (Japanese: VS ギャラドス VS Gyarados) is the sixth chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga.
Plot
An injured girl is being attacked by an enraged Gyarados, with her Staryu defending her. Staryu takes the full force of Gyarados's attack, falling to the ground, nearly fainted, as Red appears, eager to help. Despite the girl's warnings, Red sends out Saur, who is left completely unaffected by a powerful Hydro Pump, thanks to being a Grass-type.
Red decides to counterattack with Leech Seed, leaving Gyarados even angrier as thick vines grow around its body and draining away its energy. The girl takes the opportunity to command her Staryu to Recover, leaving it fully healed just as Gyarados breaks free of Saur's attack. The girl and Red decide to team up to take on Gyarados, with her calling out Bubble Beam, and Red calling out Vine Whip. Red follows up on the two simultaneous attacks with a Poké Ball, successfully capturing the Gyarados.
They take a breather as the girl thanks him, Red taking the opportunity to introduce himself again, and expresses surprise at seeing such a big Pokémon in a place like this. The girl explains that since Gyarados is a Water-type Pokémon, it's not supposed to live in these kinds of habitats, elaborating that it was actually her Pokémon, much to Red's shock, being trained until a week prior when someone had stolen it. When it came back, it was enraged, leaving her to try and track it through the trail of destruction being left in its wake.
Red concludes that Gyarados must have been rampaging because of the actions of whoever stole it, and, feeling a sense of justice, commits to getting back at them. Realizing he has no idea where he's going, he asks the girl, who also has no idea where the thieves would be. Red decides to find out if Professor Oak knows anything, so they both head to the Pokémon Center to give him a call.
Professor Oak cheerfully greets Red, and asks about his Pokédex progress, as Red proudly pulls up the Pokédex entry for Gyarados. The girl asks about the device, and Red explains its functionality, also elaborating on his life goal to become a top Pokémon Trainer and catch every Pokémon. Suddenly remembering why he made the call to Professor Oak in the first place, Red tells him about the strange incident involving Gyarados.
Professor Oak concludes that it's the work of Team Rocket, an organization working to use Pokémon for evil, recently suspected of experimenting on Pokémon in their labs. The girl and Red are left shocked, but Professor Oak tells them that they can help by heading to Mt. Moon and stopping Team Rocket from acquiring the Moon Stone, a rare stone capable of drastically increasing the power of a Pokémon.
As they both leave the Pokémon Center, Red decides to put his goal of completing the Pokédex to the side as he commits to dealing with Team Rocket first. The girl decides to come along with Red, as Mt. Moon is on the way to her hometown, and the chance of running into Trainers she knows means they might be able to get more information on Team Rocket. Red starts to doubt her capabilities, before she shows Red all six of her Poké Balls, proudly stating she'll be able to hold her own with Water-types against Mt. Moon's Rock-types.
The girl introduces herself as Misty of Cerulean City, extending out her hand. Red accepts, and she starts pulling him in a run towards Mt. Moon.
