Flaaffy's name may be a combination of ''fluffy'' and ''baa'', the sound a [[wp:sheep|sheep]] makes. Alternately, the name could be a combination of ‘’fluffy’’ and ‘’taffy’’, an informal nickname for Welsh people, who are often stereotypically associated with sheep.  It may also incorporate "laugh", considering its playful nature. The double-A in its name could also originate from a double-A battery, given Flaaffy's electric type. Its Japanese name could come from 羊毛 ''yōmō'', wool, and a corruption of もこもこ ''mokomoko'', fluffy.

Trivia

Origin

Flaaffy is based on a sheep that has had some of its wool sheered off. Its electrical aspect and ability come from how wool builds up static charges. It, its evolution, and its pre-evolution, may also have been based off the title of the science fiction novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Name origin

Flaaffy's name may be a combination of fluffy and baa, the sound a sheep makes. Its Japanese name could come from 羊毛 yōmō, wool, and a corruption of もこもこ mokomoko, fluffy.

In other languages

  • German: Waaty - From watt and/or Watte (cotton wool).
  • French: Lainergie - From laine (wool) and énergie (energy).
