Trivia
- Although prior to Generation IV it was the Signature move of Marshtomp and Swampert, they have not been seen using the move in the anime, having only been used by Gastrodon.
- Lickitung is the only non-Water-type Pokémon that is able to legitimately learn this move, if Smeargle is not counted.
- Of all the signature moves of the Hoenn starters, Muddy Water was the only one that stayed a Special attack from Generations III to IV.
