Mewtwo (Japanese: ミュウツー Mewtwo) is a Psychic-type Pokémon. It is one of the more famous Legendary Pokémon, being the subject of two Pokémon Movies, and starring as a fighter in Super Smash Brothers Melee. It can be captured in Pokémon Red and Green, Pokémon Blue, Pokémon Yellow, and Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen after defeating the Elite Four, and upgrading the Sevii Islands Network Machine in FireRed/LeafGreen. It is found in Cerulean Cave at Level 70.
Mewtwo's Ability is Pressure, which causes the opponent to use two PP instead of one each time it uses a move.
Biology
Mewtwo is one of the first Pokémon created by science. The scientists who created it dreamed of making a Pokémon that was stronger than Mew.
Physiology
Mewtwo is a somewhat feline creature with a humanoid posture. Mewtwo's body is grayish-purple with a purple under-side and a long, purple tail. Mewtwo's feet have three toes and three-fingered hands. Mewtwo has two necks, purple eyes and two short ears.
Gender differences
This Pokémon is genderless, but it looks somewhat more masculine. Also, in the movies, it has a male voice.
Special abilities
Mewtwo is highly skilled with Psychic powers. It can fly through the air (and take anyone else that it pleases with it), speak human tongue by using telepathy and take over another living thing's mind. Mewtwo is also capable of wielding various types of attack (but at a slightly lesser extent than Mew). In the Pokémon Special manga, Mewtwo fights with a highly skilled combination of Psywave for long range moves, and a giant psychic spoon for close range battles.
Behavior
Mewtwo is very aggressive and thinks of nothing but defeating its foes. The reason for this might be somehow connected to the repeated recombining of its DNA.
Habitat
Mewtwo, being a cloned Pokémon, has no natural habitat. However, during Generation I/Generation III it makes its hideout in Cerulean Cave's basement.
Diet

In the games
- Pokémon Stadium: Mewtwo is the player's final opponent.
- Pokémon Stadium 2: Silver uses a Mewtwo in the final battle.
In the anime
- Main article: Mewtwo (anime)
While Mewtwo has been the Pokémon of focus of two movies, it also made brief appearances in The Battle of the Badge and It's Mr. Mime Time in its body-armor. The first instance was when Giovanni used it to battle Gary's Arcanine and Nidoking. The second time was when Mewtwo totaled Giovanni's headquarters and flew off.
A Mirage Mewtwo appears in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon and is the most powerful Pokémon controlled by Mirage Master.
In the manga
In Pokémon Special Mewtwo has a similar origin and personality to the Mewtwo that appeared in the anime. It is a genetically engineered created by Blaine for Team Rocket by splicing Mew's DNA with his own. Blaine later defected from Team Rocket and hid himself away, as both he and Mewtwo were suffering from an illness caused by a shared psychic link due to their mutual DNA. Mewtwo went on a rampage and hid itself in the Cerulean Cave, but Red was able to capture him with a Master Ball and return him to Blaine so he could attempt to find a cure for their illness. Blaine and Mewtwo fought against Lance but were defeated when their condition weakened them. The pair were later cured by the flames of an Entei Blaine befriended and Mewtwo left on his own, returning when he learned of Giovanni's plans to use Deoxys for nefarious purposes. Mewtwo joined up with Red to attempt to defeat Deoxys and Giovanni.
In the TCG
Other appearances
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Mewtwo can be unlocked after a lot of playing in VS. Mode; either after 700 matches or 20 hours of combined play. Despite Mewtwo being a Legendary Pokémon, most players of the game don't consider it to be a great fighter as Mewtwo's weight, speed and strength are contrary to it's real Pokémon statistics.

Trivia
Origin
It is very cat-like, and its nature and origin are similar to elements of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, in which an artificial lifeform turned on its creators. Mewtwo also bears a resemblance to the Dragon Ball Z villian, Freeza.
Name origin
Mewtwo's name is a combination of Mew, referring to the Pokémon on which it was based, and two, indicating that it is a clone of Mew. It also sounds somewhat phonetically similar to mutant
