Barrier (Japanese: バリアー Barrier) is a non-damaging Psychic-type move introduced in Generation I.
Effect
Generations I to V
Barrier increases the user's Defense by two stages.
Generations VI and VII
Barrier's PP was changed from 30 to 20.
If powered up by a Psychium Z into Z-Barrier, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.
Generation VIII onwards
Barrier cannot be selected in a battle.

Pokémon Rumble Rush
In Pokémon Rumble Rush, all status moves including Barrier could only be used by opposing Pokémon and could not be obtained on any caught Pokémon. Barrier could be seen as a move used by Boss Mr. Mime and Mew.
Pokémon UNITE
In Pokémon UNITE, Barrier is Mr. Mime's second move. It is obtained by reaching level 6 upgrading Light Screen into it instead of Guard Swap. The user creates a wall that prevents enemies from passing. Holds 2 uses in reserve and cannot be used more than once every 2s. When upgrading Barrier, reserved Barriers will be restored to the maximum. At level 13, can store 3 uses in reserve.

- In Red, Green, and Blue, Lance has a Dragonite with this move, although Dragonite cannot legitimately have the move in any of the Generation I games.
- A Dragonite with Barrier was distributed as a participation gift in the Kanto Classic Wi-Fi tournament as a reference to this Dragonite.
- Despite having distinct effects in the games, Reflect, Light Screen, Barrier, Protect, and Safeguard are often depicted in the anime seemingly sharing the same effect that Protect has in the games (protecting the user from most the effect of moves).
