Giratina (Japanese: ギラティナ Giratina) is a Legendary Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Giratina is a large, gray, centipede-like creature with six short legs. Its legs have golden claws and a gold band on them. It has a tail and a thick black stripe running vertically along the front of its body. There is a series of red horizontal stripes running across the large black one. Three golden half-rings circle the back half of Giratina's neck at the same points that three of the red stripes are at on its front, resembling a ribcage. On its back are two large, black wings that are decorated with red, conical objects. Finally, Giratina's head and eyes resemble those of Dialga and Palkia, making many have a theory that it is related to the two.

Gender differences

Giratina is genderless.

Habitat

Giratina is a very rare (probably one-of-a-kind) Pokémon due to its "Legendary" Status. Legends claim that Giratina show up at cemetaries and that this Pokémon supposedly lives in the Spirit World.

Giratina is probably based on a Basilisk.

Name origin

Giratina's name may be derived from either guillotine or girasol [1].

Possible Future Role

Giratina may very well be playing an important role in a possible upcoming third version of Diamond and Pearl. It is also possible that Darkrai could be the new version mascot instead of Giratina because of the upcoming movie Dialga VS Palkia VS Darkrai, although Giratina is much more likely due to the following reasons: Giratina has a small role in Diamond and Pearl, similar to the role Rayquaza had in Ruby and Sapphire. However, in the third version of Ruby and Sapphire, Emerald, Rayquaza was the main character in the storyline, which leads to a possibility that Giratina may be in a third version in the Sinnoh region. Giratina has red gems on its wings the same way Dialga has a diamond on its chest and Palkia has two pearls near its wings. Giratina is the Renegade Pokemon which can mean it rebels against time and space. Giratina sounds a lot like girasol, a type of red opal, which could mean that the next version could be Pokemon Girasol or Pokemon Opal.
