ROM Hack Tools

I saw that there's a page on ROM hacks and some of the more notable ones, but nothing about tools used. Would I be able to create some pages on ROM hack tools, or is that not allowed? Genericuser62637 23:58, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

i would say no. ROM hacks are illegal, so we technically dont want to encourage it. also, the hacks themselves are notable because theyre fanon, but the tools dont fall in that category. -- MAGNEDETH 03:40, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Pokemon Saturday

Ok. I'm tired of USA not getting a Pokemon Sunday so I'm making a Pokemon Saturaday on Youtube. I was wondering if I could use information (pokemon stats, news, etc...) from the site? totoRulz 20:10, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

uh, i guess so. not sure how you plan to compete with Psun, but just give us proper credit. -- MAGNEDETH 21:23, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Anatomy Vs. Physiology

I've been reading the Pokemon's physiology but I found it somewhat odd, I'm a medical student and I suggest that the Physiology term should be change in Anatomy because of the fact that when we define physiology, it means more on the function of the body while in anatomy, more on defining or explaining each part of the body...well try to define those.. just a suggestion but more on facts..thanks..--GASPERshut... 03:30, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

sounds like a prime subject for a discussion. ill get back to you. -- MAGNEDETH 07:20, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
thanks, ahmm another if we will use physiology it should be partnered with anatomy, meaning... we should put Anatomy and Physiology but if we will put that we need to add more data for all Pokemon, --GASPERshut... 07:06, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Banned

I don't mean to wine, and hope this won't effect by time of user space recovery, but I have been banned for over two months now, have contributed to the mainspace, and belief i have learned by lesson. Can i get my editing privileges back? DoTheWave 01:40, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Asking won't help. Just keep making good edits to the mainspace and you'll get them back before you know it!--Pokélova! 01:51, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
you have been doing a good job, but with the excessive server stress, we want to reduce userspace edits to as low as possible. so keep making mainspace edits and perhaps ill give them back to you fairly shortly, but you cant go edit crazy. -- MAGNEDETH 04:05, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Anatomy Vs. Physiology

still not going to change about physiology?? quite disturbing, sorry, because as time pass by, the physiology is just becoming a mix type with anatomy, should we change all with Anatomy and Physiology in each pokemon??--GASPERshut... 12:56, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

weve had more important issues to handle as of late. have to get back to you. -- MAGNEDETH 15:33, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Need help shrinking picture

I am making a page on my userpage on the similiarities of Pokemon and Ben 10 but when I am making my chart I don't know how to shrink the pictures from the other website. can you show me how to? this is what I have so far:

*stuff removed*

DoTheWave 04:55, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

As far as I'm aware, you can't. The only way to do it would be to resize the image using GIMP or Photoshop, uploading to photobucket or imageshack, and then hotlinking that way. —darklordtrom 07:42, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Regardng Routes

File:Temp image.png
See Route 3 and Route 4.

Shouldn't we use the | pipe to keep consistency? Unless the moves are permanent... ht14 02:33, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

the moves are permanent with the inclusion of the forthcoming Isshu Route #. -- MAGNEDETH 02:35, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
I know that, but I'm guessing we're fixing up the template, right? The bolded says Route X, whereas the sides say Kanto/Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh Route X... so it's inconsistent... ht14 02:41, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
youre losing me. are you referring to Kanto Route 1 vs Route 1? -- MAGNEDETH 02:43, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Ne'er mind, seems fine now... psych... if you want, I could do a print screen... because if you look at Route 3, that's what's going on. Bolded says Route 3. The right side says Kanto Route 4. Inconsistency... ht14 02:48, 7 August 2010
ive been having some weird issues occasionally. id like to see the screen if you can. -- MAGNEDETH 02:50, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Done. ht14 03:03, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
ah, yea, i gotta fix that. btw, get Firefox. -- MAGNEDETH 03:04, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
:b I heard of viruses on it, but I use it occasionally on the Apple that we also have. ht14 03:06, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
i think you mean the opposite. FF is one of the safest browsers to use. its IE that has security holes out the wazoo and is highly UN-recommended. -- MAGNEDETH 03:08, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Fair enough, but...

...they're all on Natu's page as well as the rest of the Pokémon who had different sprites (Meowth, Oddish, Hitmonlee, Ninetales, Primeape, Krabby, and Registeel, but oddly not on Muk's page), so I just thought it would be appropriate to fill that in on those 4 pages as well. But meh, I'm psychotic anyway. XD —βetA ZerØ 22:34, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Wait, nevermind - they're only listed on Registeel. Also, only Muk's and Oddish's pages include Krabby in the other list. Strange. —βetA ZerØ 22:35, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

i understand where your coming from, but i was just discussing this with evkl yesterday about this, and being that both of us like trivia, but not excessive bits of it, we figured it would be easier to set a cap of 5 Pokemon. if 5 Pokemon have some commonalities, then its not super notable. some trivia may be 'grandfathered' in, but that may also be removed at some point. we gotta crack down on a lot of trivia, some sections are pretty out of hand, this is just one step. -- MAGNEDETH 22:37, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Good point...so would it be worth it to eliminate the entire list from everyone's pages? —βetA ZerØ 22:38, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
yea, id say so. -- MAGNEDETH 22:39, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

You can do that then, I'd rather stay out of the whole thing now. XD

Although is there a single "master" place we could put it, just to keep it, but in one spot? —βetA ZerØ 22:42, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

well, if you want me to handle it, then ill just think about it and do it later. also, yea, preview button. -- MAGNEDETH 22:43, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Meh, it was your idea and I only messed it up. And don't worry, I'm definitely more careful most of the time. I just tend to get lazy on talk pages XP —βetA ZerØ 22:48, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Name Table

Hey DETH, sorry to bother you*, but I'll just ask a minor question. Which is more preferable for the name table for places? "マサラタウン" or "マサラタウン Masara Town"? 神奇超龍 07:03, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

"マサラタウン Masara Town" would be preferred, since that's how most other pages have it. Jellotalk 07:34, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
K, Thank you*.神奇超龍 08:06, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Generation IV Mystery Gifts

How come on the Generation IV mystery gift items it doesn't have event dates and for the azure flute it says they haven't even had that event. - unsigned comment from Tinytim415 (talkcontribs)

not sure. ive never dealt with the Mystery Gift stuff. -- MAGNEDETH 17:36, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm am 99% positive they have not given out the azure flute in any events so far. Though they have given out a Lv. 100 Arceus before.--Dbeckelheimer6 10:48, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Swampert

Why'd you get rid of the disambig? Is it because it's Zuzu, not "Ruby's Swampert"? ht14 17:59, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

yes. you want Ruby's Swap, you search that. its named Ruru, not Swampert. -- MAGNEDETH 18:00, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Got it. ht14 18:01, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
well, not so much if you wanted to find it, but, the general populous. you know what i mean. -- MAGNEDETH 18:02, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, though, for some, they may not know the nickname off the top of the head and recall it only as Swampert. Still, I get the point: go to the Swampert page and look at the "See also" section or something of that sort. ht14 18:04, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
one of the largest complaints, as you may know, is redirects, so for a case like this, i think its better to play it very literally. unless it is named the page name, no redirect. -- MAGNEDETH 18:07, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Alright then; just clarifying. ht14 18:22, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

New Project

I think we should add another project. It should be called project translations. It will focus on translating all of the bulbapedia pages into different languages using a online translator, starting with japanese. One problem might be of server stress. Just asking you for admission before starting it.--Dbeckelheimer6 00:03, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis--Cold (talk) 00:08, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Also, using a machine translation would be really crappy because it comes out pretty garbled. :P We want speakers of the other languages to actually understand it comprehensively XD (such as with Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis, where the articles are written by people who speak those languages) --ZestyCactus 01:36, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I didn't notice that they already had thranslationson another website.--Dbeckelheimer6 10:46, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Help Closing Box

I mad this box for my subpage but I'm having trouble closing it so after it I can write more under it without it being in the box. CAN YOU HELP ME? DoTheWave 22:02, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

You opened three tables and only closed two of them. It also works better if you align it to the right rather than center aligning and setting the margin on the right. Werdnae (talk) 22:17, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Edit Help

Alright I guess your right I have been lazy towards the manispace, I'll start editing again. But before I do I was wondering when I use the TrainerPoké Template vs. InactivePoké/ActivePoké Template when I'm editing the Pokémon section of the character of the days? DoTheWave 21:54, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

i dont know. i dont usually deal with the CotDs. -- MAGNEDETH 23:19, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
@DoTheWave, generally, you should use the ActivePoké template so long as you have information on it. InactivePoké shows that the article itself is incomplete unless the said Pokémon is actually important enough to have an article of its own. ht14 23:48, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

V Generation Pokemon Explosion

Due to me not being able to edit my userspace I am not able to make pre-articles on new Pokemon. what should I due? DoTheWave 21:26, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

you should 'do' nothing. we will handle it. no offense, but this is a pretty hairy time and its best left to some veteran users for the time being. -- MAGNEDETH 21:42, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Upload Pictures

I'm trying to upload pictures form the recent episodes but for some reason i'm not able too and all the explanation says is your username. Can you help me? DoTheWave 00:39, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

my username? huh. well i know the Archives are locked to non-admins, so, thats the reason. why its just my name im sure is a glitch. i can fix it. -- MAGNEDETH 00:43, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Well what i wanted to add were pictures of Professor Araragi's starter Pokémon because the ones under her Pokemon section in the mainspace are pictures of the Isshu Starters in the anime, and i wanted the files to be more specific. like i did with Shooti's Tsutarja DoTheWave 00:52, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
i would just hold off on them for now. im sure Nate will unlock the Archives tomorrow now that BP is unlocked. -- MAGNEDETH 00:54, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
If you had to guess when would the archives come back open for non-admin editing? DoTheWave 23:31, 1 October 2010
idk, a day or two. its up to Nate. -- MAGNEDETH 00:57, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey you! Unlock the picture archive upload or at least upload some new picteres of Mijumaru and Meguroko. The episode arrived a long time ago for you to upload some User:Salazar12

  1. dont yell at me to do something.
  2. it is not my decision to unlock the Archives. you would know this if you read anything in the above section.
  3. i dont do pretty much anything associated with anime screenshots.
  4. sign your comments with four tildes.

well, WE didnt add them, Game Freak did. -- MAGNEDETH 20:57, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Just to get this straight

what site did you copy from when posting the dream world abilities? The names sure don't match those that Umeko posted in the drop box. MaverickNate 14:14, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

i didnt copy them from a site. ill explain more offline. -- MAGNEDETH 21:48, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Apologies

Sorry about the speculation on Kyurem's page. I must have missed your appeal to avoid that, and I thought that since it was being tossed around as a possibility it could be relevant, at least in regards to the fandom. I'll try to avoid any more speculation from now on. --AndyPKMN 23:20, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

im not really mad, it was just annoying. but i probably should have put a hidden warning the first time anyway. in the end though, its always a good idea to avoid speculation. it is included on some pages here and there, but its best not to add it. talk page it first. -- MAGNEDETH 23:25, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
There was already something there when I edited it. I just rephrased to remove baseless speculation (for instance, that said third version would be titled "Pokémon Grey") and tried to cite the justifications for why Kyurem seems similar to Reshi & Zekki. --AndyPKMN 23:37, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
yea, i didnt think you added it. just watch out for that stuff. if youre unsure, just ask. -- MAGNEDETH 23:40, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Userspace

Just wanted to say sorry about the userspace issue last week. I didn't know that Bulbapedia re-instated the three edits per day rule. I thought the site was still following the "don't edit it often" rule. I thought it would be fine since if you look at the history of anypage (well maybe minus the sandbox) I really don't edit it often. Anyway, sorry about that. --HoennMaster 16:37, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

well, either way, you should avoid blanket edits to the userspace at one time, especially now with BW out. -- MAGNEDETH 04:33, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Move protections

Is one set of moves really "counter-productive edit warring"?Ryulong 01:20, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

you moved it without permission and thusly created an argument. you tell me. -- MAGNEDETH 01:21, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

User with multiple accounts

I know this is a bit late, but I noticed this user has two accounts, and the second account made a questionable edit. Can you take care of this? Thanks! --rockersk08 00:08, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Sprites

Think I should add the dwart template to every Pokémon's sprites section?--444Zekrom 15:09, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

im thinking no. it would look silly just floating out there. we are still considering options on what to do with DW art. -- MAGNEDETH 19:41, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
BTW, pass this message to TTE, too. HAHA:

Userspace limits

Hi. I noticed you have been editing the User: namespace a lot recently. Please don't do it any more, though. Bulbapedia's Userspace policy restricts the amount you can edit your userpage: no more than three edits per day. This policy was instated to prevent strain on our server, and also to promote people helping out in the mainspace. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, after all, so help us out by contributing to some articles before coming back to your personal userpage. The more often you edit in the mainspace, the more you will be allowed to edit your userpage. Thanks! --~~~~

Game Staff Pages

Among the wanted pages list, there are multiple missing pages on game staff, such as Staff of Pokémon Battle Revolution. I'm planning on working on a few of those, and I'm just wondering what sort of format is expected for such a page. Genericuser62637 21:59, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

it would be best emulate the style of other staff pages, like Staff of Pokémon Gold and Silver. -- MAGNEDETH 22:02, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Possible new site feature

As Archaic doesn't check his talk page, TTE isn't here at the moment, and I cannot edit the latter's talk page, I'm telling you this idea I had, as second referral.

As you know, the release of Gen V is causing all these changes to Bulbapedia. We (the users and editors) have been adding the Gen V information, putting the Gen IV info with the Gen I-III info. However, if the MediaWiki software allows it, it might be possible to give logged-in users the ability to show some generation's data by default through prefs. For example, I don't have BW, only P and SS, so I would usually want to see Gen IV information for Pokémon and such. However, one of my friends from school, who may or may not have an account here (I am not entirely sure), has many Gen III games and HG, so he might want to normally see Gen III data. As always, however, not-logged-in users will see Gen V data by default.

Do you think it would be at all possible for this to be implimented? As required, you can propongate this idea up the heirarchy of power. Just tell me where so I can monitor the discussion and add input as necessary. --TruePikachu 06:17, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

I get what you're saying, but I'm not sure this is possible. We don't even have interchangeable skins, let alone a customized user interface. -- MAGNEDETH 06:39, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps if we were able to implement skins without too many errors, it could be possible to sneak some user preferences in through that. Otherwise, MediaWiki doesn't have much support for allowing users to set specific preferences like that, so it's pretty much a no-go. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.> 01:19, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Missingno. Master and TTE

Missingno. Master said it was ok, I'm REALLY sorry. I just assumed he/she knew what he/she was talking about. Again, I'm really sorry. Besides TTE stated here-->[2] ,that it was the new policy. So what's what? --Landfish7 20:17, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

MM is not an admin and does not dictate when we do things. TTE o the other had is, however, it was stated in the site header we were only doing those others as examples, and to ignore TTE as he was wrong. and btw, use the preview button my boy, i dont like being edit conflicted! just stop and wait for a genuine announcement. -- MAGNEDETH 20:22, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Even if TTE was wrong, he "will be again/is/was" the Editor-in-Chief, so I assumed that he knew what he was talking about. --Landfish7 20:26, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
you may be surprised to find out that in that case, he wasnt. trust me, he really wasnt. -- MAGNEDETH 20:27, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Just wanted to say how sorry I am for my part in all this. Between the site header being changed, the poll being closed, and a couple of edits in the recent changes showing Squirtle getting disambig'd, I truly thought it was OK. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 20:30, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
well, i think this would have gone a lot smoother had we had a lot more organization, due in part to TTE's premature editing (which confused a lot of people). i dont blame you guys, per-se, but just relax until you see an actual announcement somewhere. -- MAGNEDETH 20:34, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Well now we have more than 41 Pokémon pages that don't go to the disambig page nor do they link to it. Should we move everything back to normal? --Landfish7 20:37, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

at this point theres not much reason to go moving them back. just leave them be for now. -- MAGNEDETH 20:40, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Then when it's time we can link back to the disambiguation? That is if the editorial board approves. Really, for me it won't take too long to enter "Head" "Foot" and "species=nameofpokémon" back into the pages and then continue on starting with Golbat. --Landfish7 20:43, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Hey, look. I can edit.
Why not just get it over with already, and not have a half-assed wiki? Someone's gonna search Crobat and whine that Brock's not an important character anymore. TTEchidna 09:47, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Ehm, not sure but whatever.

I am starting a wiki called 'Pokémon Fan Figures'.

I would like to use that {{bp|xxxx}} template to allow people to see canonical information about Pokémon, since my wiki is based on fanon.

May I have the permission to do that please?

Because most images aren't animated on browsers like Internet Explorer. I suggest using Firefox because that's what Bulbapedia is meant to be viewed on and looks very different on there. I did. It was fixed before you commented here. Note that it is automatically calculated by adding the members of each generation category. In other words a page was using the PokémonInfobox which should have been using PokémonInfoboxNoncat. I didn't actually edit the template in order to fix it. How do I link a pokemon with the new disambiguation template, like Gliscor has, but Diglett doesn't? Gliscorguy54 01:17, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

i want to make it clear this is NOT a community talk page. thats what the talk page for the main page is for, as well as the forums.
in regards to the disambigs, your best bet is to see how the others are arranged, and go from there, but as of right now, Diglett doesnt get a disambig because it never had one to begin with. -- MAGNEDETH 01:23, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Template Change Proposal

Hey, I'm kinda new at this still so bear with me lol
I am trying to update the List by Availability page for my entry in the Xmas Improvement Drive, and I want to include the generation V column for the first four generations of pokemon. In order to do this, four protected templates must be changed Avail-1, Avail-2, Avail-3, and Avail-4. I was wondering if either you could make the changes or if you could somehow allow me to make the changes myself. See my Userspace for an example of Avail-1 changed. Thanks. --Absol21990 1:44 11, December 2010

i believe Jello was the person who made a comment about that, so she is the one you should be talking to. -- MAGNEDETH 02:10, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Image Question

I notice that we do not have any pictures of Dr. Yung's labratory, and it would be quite helpfull if we could get some images of it along with one depicting the missile-like hologram projectors that Dr'young had used. Unfortunatly I am unable to find or upload any of these images, how would I go about getting them into the archives?--EpicShadow 18:37, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

well, if you yourself want to acquire these images, you will have to to find a way to screen cap movie clips (as we only allow high quality images). alternatively, if you can find someone who does a lot of anime uploading, you could see if they can help out. -- MAGNEDETH 22:23, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Well, Mr. Deth, Arceus's mainly listed as Normal on pages like these: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_by_National_Pok%C3%A9dex_number and http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/No_eggs_%28egg_group%29 or basically all lists in general. --Bee § Bwakka 00:54, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

right. its just way too busy for myself, and many others, to really do any serious stuff right now. we'll all just do our usual thing until after the new year. -- MAGNEDETH 01:06, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I can't guarantee when exactly I'll be able to get to it but I'll probably be able to get on this soon. Is that OK?--MisterE13 22:24, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
i still want you to hold off on this for right now. -- MAGNEDETH 00:16, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

the lists that contain arceus still list him as normal type. if you'd rather not do it, i could try but i might mess up and i don't know all of the lists that contain arceus. --Bee § Bwakka 00:22, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

im not worried about the work getting done. Arceus is a Normal-type anyway, so theyre not wrong. just relax and do other things. ill make note of it when the time comes. -- MAGNEDETH 00:26, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
i don't mean to say your wrong or be disrespectful, but wasn't the arceustype template made because he can be other types? but if its not neccessary right now then i'll leave it alone. --Bee § Bwakka 00:31, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
no, youre right. thats why it was made, but it isnt necessary right now. hold off on it. -- MAGNEDETH 00:39, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Apologies

I apologize for being rude to one your staff members. But I will not tolerate anybody who is a higher position than me, and say "I don't agree, blah blah blah," and say that my opinion is wrong. That's just wrong. However, in the future, I will restrain myself from blowing up and harass another user. Again, I'm sorry for "harassing" Jello.--Han Ji-Wan 02:27, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

first off, saying "i dont agree" is simply someone inputting their own opinion. so by that degree, you are denying someone else's opinion, which is just a terrible thing to do.
second, Jello never said you were wrong.
third, dont patronize me. your attitude will not be tolerated, so i do hope you understand this and change it accordingly. -- MAGNEDETH 03:02, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay, sorry if you ever thought I was condescending you. I didn't mean to do that to you. I'm just upset about the whole situation. I mean, when I contribute to the site, sometimes someone comes up to me and changes my work around. It hurts my pride. And that leads to my recklessness and rude behavior. And I'm sorry for that. So, do you accept my apologies?--Han Ji-Wan 04:50, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
i do. just be aware that if someone changes your contribution, its ok to ask why. sometimes another user might change it for the wrong reason. if a staff member changes it, they probably know exactly what theyre doing and again, feel free to ask and give feedback, but dont resort to forcing your own opinion. -- MAGNEDETH 18:55, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Issues with the term "largest city"

Do you think we should just change "largest city" to "most populous"? And we could also have "largest city in terms of land area". This could be calculated by counting the number of spaces vertically and horizontally and then multiply it. Would this work? I'm just tired of going back and forth with the "largest city" debate. Leaked English names

Even though they are not officiual revelations, the recent names that have been revealed match the ones on that list, suggesting the others are real, since a fake list could not of possibly of known the names of 11 new Pokemon before anyone else did, even though it is not how it was intended, should we consider all of the names confirmed? Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 16:28, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

What part of waiting until an official source confirms it, is hard to understand? It's better to be safe than sorry. If we end up moving all of them and relink thousands among thousands of pages and images and something turns out to be fake, then we'd be in big trouble. Jellotalk 17:06, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Jello hit the nail on the head here. when we know for certain, they move. otherwise, we could put ourselves in a really crappy position. -- MAGNEDETH 05:33, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Orre

In the box "Regions in the Pokemon World", why is Orre listed under the "Main series"? It should be under "Side games"...--Han Ji-Wan 17:24, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Actually, it's a region with RPGs that can communicate freely with the other games of their Generation, hence Main series.
I think otherwise. Orre may have connections to Hoenn and Kanto. But that doesn't make it a part of the "Main Series". According to your logic, Fiore should be part of the Main Series region because it can connect with Sinnoh. (The Manaphy egg mission). Also, Orre does not have gym leaders, Elite 4 (I know, Johto doesn't have one, but it shares with Kanto's), etc. --Han Ji-Wan 01:09, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Colosseum and XD are considered main series because they are ths same type of RPGs, and largely use the same mechanics. Same type of battles, same (pretty much) method for capturing Pokémon, etc. Werdnae (talk) 02:04, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
why is this on my talk page. this should have been asked on the template page or something. -- MAGNEDETH 05:34, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Need your opinion

Hi MAGNEDETH,

Just wondering, do you think that this wiki needs a template for "Pokémon interaction zones" (e.g. Safari Zones, Pal Park, Amity Square, etc.). I mean, it might sound kind of pointless, but since there are templates for things like "variations of the move Screech", I guess I'll make it (if you think its necessary). Thanks, thought I'd drop by and ask you since I wouldn't like it to be deleted mercilessly. Thanks! Alebcay 22:10, 26 January 2011 (UTC)alebcay

hmmm, maybe. i find the "variations on (move)" templates to be a little dumb myself, but ill discuss that a bit with some staff and see where we stand on it. i can go either way myself. -- MAGNEDETH 22:41, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks! Alebcay 20:35, 27 January 2011 (UTC)alebcay

i think the idea sounds decent. make it in your userspace so we can preview it and make adjustments if necessary (and dont forget the preview button). -- MAGNEDETH 23:11, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

How is what was done there the wrong way of doing things? Isn't that what's supposed to be done when the English name is revealed? Besides, the page is probably gonna be moved in a matter of minutes, so what's the difference?

On that subject, could you possibly move some of these pages please? Got something

I just found out the source of where alot of the bogus confirmed English names for Black and White are coming from, the source is Pokémon Wiki at Wikia itself which I thought I should let you know, so if you want you could write something down to discourage people from using the English names from that site since it is not a reliable source. -Tyler53841 06:19, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Items Descriptions

Hi, I'm TheFaither and I'm from Pokémon Central Wiki, the italian Pokémon wiki. I have a question for you:
Why Bulbapedia has got all the items descriptions and Pokémon Central Wiki can't even find the italian translations for their own underwear? We've got a serious problem there, actually we have no italian descriptions at all.
Thanks for your time--TheFaither 19:56, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

People here go through the games and copy the descriptions down. Simple as that. You could try asking some of your contributors that have the games to do that, it wouldn't be hard for them to do it. Werdnae (talk) 21:12, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

sorry...

I am SO sorry about the Team Budew thing. I didn't know that it is really for the forums. If I caused any trouble, I give you my sincerest apologies. Pokabu82 22:26, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

no, you see, as a group, its technically a social group, which the forums handle. itll be easier for you to do discussions over there anyway. -- MAGNEDETH 04:36, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
oh... Well, thanks for replying! Pokabu82 02:00, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Why no gif, eh?!

Congrats on becoming Editor-In-Chief, by the way! I'm sure you'll do great. :)

Anyway, I don't mean to be too much of a bother, seeing as your poor talk page looks like forum, but I'm of the opinion that animated sprites should be in the GIF format of images, as the current APNG format is only viewable in Firefox, Safari, and Opera. If Bulbapedia is really all about providing the most information about Pokemon, shouldn't sprites be animated on all browsers? I've brought this up with both other staff members and regular users, all of whom delete my comments on the talk page for a sprite with the reasoning of "PNG images are better quality". While I'm all for that for images with several shades for each color, most sprites only have two to three shades per color, and GIFs are both faster to load and animated on all browsers. I probably don't need to explain that, though. Anyway, I'd really, really like it if you'd hear me out in a bit more detail, but I wouldn't want to type my entire story out if it's just going to be shot down or deleted. I am more then willing to turn this into a Private Message conversation if that's easier for you!

Regards, Tailzfoxy96 04:14, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

there have been a few discussions about this on the forums in the Bulbawiki section. im sure if you go there you will see a topic or two discussing these things. its a pretty big argument that no one has really made a prominent enough push in either direction to decide a change. -- MAGNEDETH 04:39, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Many name updates are all over.

Since this is very common on very popular Pokémon websites (including ones like Serebii, that is), I think it should be researched for Bulbapedia. I cannot find an official source myself but most Pokémon Black and White Pokémon names have been leaked somehow. Jalorda is now Serperior, for instance, and Zuruggu is Scraggy. I cannot find the official source, though. ----Donn.::.(Usertalk) 16:34, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

P.S. About time you archive. This loads longer than the Main Page. XD ----Donn.::.(Usertalk) 16:35, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
All of the leaked names have been known for weeks, and Bulbapedia will only use each one once it is officially confirmed and/or the games are officially released in English. See the notice at the top of every single page. —Minimiscience 16:40, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Moreover, there is no official source for the leak; that's why it's a leak.Minimiscience 16:42, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
I am not sure if it is a leak or not, in fact. I just cannot find a source. That's why I consider it a leak. I have no idea where these came about. ----Donn.::.(Usertalk) 20:00, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

MAGNEDETH, archive this before I do it myself. (loljk, but seriously Archive.)

Of course there is no source, it is a LEAK. Until Nintendo themselves confirm these names, these are not yet official. Jellotalk 20:05, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
I know we shouldn't trust fansites, but PokéBeach reported that the "leaked" list was confirmed (here's a link). The list itself was originally posted here. --Nathan2055talk 23:50, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

BW Countdown Clock

There is plenty of room on the main page, so why can't there be a countdown clock to Gen V in both America and Europe? --Nathan2055talk 04:05, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

actually, there isnt enough room. you must be using a massive screen size. either way, we have to think about everyone, like folks with small resolutions and even people browsing via phone. also, the countdown already pushes important info like News and such down so another countdown would be a terrible clutter. besides, the difference is only, what, 2 days? -- MAGNEDETH 04:20, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Time template?

Given the growing complexity of time in the games and the coding therefore necessary to display it (as seen in the table at the top of the Time article) would it be advisable to create a template that displays the current time of day and use that for coding in pages that require the time of day?--MisterE13 19:28, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

the UTC clock is at the top of the page all the time. why would we need a second clock? -- MAGNEDETH 00:09, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear, I meant have a template that displays the correct time of day as described in the most recent games so as to avoid the huge wall of coding needed to tell us that it is currently "Night", accounting for seasons and all that.--MisterE13 03:38, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
seems like there has to be a more efficient way of coding these things. -- MAGNEDETH 03:56, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Would you have any idea what that might be? Other than replacing the month names with numbers that is.--MisterE13 04:03, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Animated PNGs

Why does Bulbagarden use Animated PNGs instead of the more widely supported Animated GIFs? --Nathan2055talk 23:42, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Article Deletion

A user, Cool Pikachu!, deleted an article that I created. It was called "Largest Cities in the Pokemon World." It didn't look pretty or official but it did take me 2 hours to organize the populations of each city and then type up the data. I don't really know how to put in links or maps or make it all in a table but i just wanted the data to be there so somebody could just finish the job. I asked him why he deleted it and he said it wasn't notable. I then said that it didnt matter if the page was notable as long as it had useful information. I have no idea how to get the page back and I was hoping that you could put it back up. Then you or somebody else can make it pretty. Thanks. --BlackCharizard 02:17, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

well, it isnt notable. so, why would we need it? each city has its demographic listed, and even then, demographics in the Pokemon games arent really 'necessary' so...we dont really need a page for all of them. -- MAGNEDETH 04:30, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm building a banner to go on my talk page, but I can't figure something out. How do you make a link that doesn't appear to be external to add a new section to a page? --Nathan2055talk 22:32, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

i dont understand what you mean. a link that isnt external? like this? -- MAGNEDETH 22:46, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes, that's an internal link. --Nathan2055talk 23:21, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
I've experimented a bit more and came up with this:

{{usermessage|[{{fullurl:{{ns:3}}:{{PAGENAME}}|action=edit&section=new}} Leave new message] - [[User:Nathan2055|Return to Nathan2055's main page]]}} It works, but the link appears external. --Nathan2055talk 01:20, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

If you want to make the box & arrow thing disappear, put the link inside <plainlinks> tags. i.e. <plainlinks>[url link text here]</plainlinks> It'll still appear the slightly lighter blue colour, but you can't do anything about that except for manually coding the hex code of the text. Werdnae (talk) 04:16, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
No, it's not recognizing that tag at all. --Nathan2055talk 19:53, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
... Of course it isn't. That was stupid of me. Plainlinks isn't a tag, it's a class. Try <span class="plainlinks">Link</span> Werdnae (talk) 04:10, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Perfect! I just need to make some code to get it to look like the normal blue color. What is the hex value for Bulbapedia's normal links? --Nathan2055talk 23:00, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
No idea. Screenshot a page with a link and use an image editing program to find the colour? It'll probably be 0000XX. Werdnae (talk) 02:39, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

(resetting indent)OK, they hex is #002BB8 but my <font> tag isn't working. How do I apply the color? --Nathan2055talk 00:27, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello, MAGNEDETH! I've been a user and Bureaucrat on Wikia for over a year now, and thought I might add some of my talent to my favourite Wiki! So, if there is any projects I could jump in on, please contact me when you can!

Sincerely, --- Gamemaster (Rules) 01:38, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Sounds great, but I must warn you, we do things a bit different than Wikia. An example being that all signatures must be worded the same as the user, so your signature is technically against the rules. Other than that, there no major projects going on right now. Until Black and White come out its pretty much business as usual. Just general wiki activity. -- MAGNEDETH 02:16, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Could you please explain to me what you mean by "all signatures must be worded the same as the user"? I'm a bit confused on what you meant. I don't want it to be against the rules, so if you could enlighten me, that'd be great! --- Gamemaster (Rules) 00:22, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
That is a bit confusing wording, isn't it. What he means is that your signature must reflect your actual username - in this case, Illuminated Void - in some way. "Gamemaster" doesn't give any one any clue that your username might be "Illuminated Void." XD You can be as creative with displaying your name as the system allows (mine is written in Japanese, for example), but it has to give some indication of your actual username. 梅子 00:26, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
It's been brought to my attention that your username actially IS Gamemaster. XDD So you just need to go into your settings and make sure that your signature links to Gamemaster instead of Illuminated Void. 梅子 00:36, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Oops! I must not have changed the links from Wikia (my username on Wikia is Illuminated Void), I'll change it to Gamemaster (my username here). Thank you for pointing that out! ^_^ --- Gamemaster (Rules) 00:36, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
