Patrat (Japanese: ミネズミ Minezumi) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves into Watchog starting at level 20.

Biology

Physiology

Patrat is a rodent-like Pokémon that resembles a chipmunk. It is mostly brown with a tan stomach and face. Its tail is long and straight with a scruffy white tip. It has a large pointed tooth that sticks out of its mouth. Patrat has a flat face, and its cheeks are very round. Its ears are small and pointed. Its head has a black band that covers the eyes, which have red irises with a yellow ring, and black pupils. Its feet are small and black, with three toes.

Special abilities

Behavior

Patrat are very conscious and wary regarding its surroundings and are always on guard, otherwise, they feel insecure. If they sense an impending danger, it signals its companions using its tail. They store foods in their cheeks for future purposes.

Habitat

Groups of Patrat live on treetops. In Sewaddle and Burgh in Pinwheel Forest!, Patrat are also shown to live in tunnels in the ground.

Patrat made its debut in In The Shadow of Zekrom!, appearing in a group. Multiple Patrat also appeared in Enter Iris and Axew!.

Multiple Patrat appeared in A Sandile Gusher of Change! with multiple Pidove and Deerling where they needed help from Ash and his friends.

A pair of Patrat made a minor appearance in Sewaddle and Burgh in Pinwheel Forest! where Burgh was able to heal a sick one.

Three male Patrat were seen at the beginning of Emolga the Irresistible! gathering apples. Their harvest was stolen by a gluttonous Emolga who tricked them with Attract.

Omega has a Patrat he used in Reunion Battles In Nimbasa! for the Club Battle, but they lost.

Patrat has made cameo appearances in Triple Leaders, Team Threats!, Dreams by the Yard Full!, A Rival Battle for Club Champ!, A Connoisseur's Revenge!, Battling for the Love of Bug-Types!, Lost at the Stamp Rally!, The Mighty Accelguard to the Rescue!, and BW059 and BW065, and will appear again in BW069.

Trivia

  • In each region, there is a two-stage Template:Type2 Pokémon encountered early in the region. Patrat is the Unova variation on this theme, while Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon, and Bidoof are those of other regions.
  • Patrat shares the same species name with Sentret. They are both known as Scout Pokémon.
  • Patrat is the only Pokémon that has a base stat total of 255.
    • It also has the lowest base stat of all the Generation V Pokémon.

Origin

It appears to be based on a prairie dog, chipmunk or meerkat.

Name origin

Patrat is a combination of the words patrol and rat. It may also be a pun on pack rats. Minezumi is derived from 見 mi, looking, and either 木鼠 kinezumi, squirrel, or 鼠 nezumi, mouse.
