Route 11

Route 11

Route 11 links Route 12 to Vermilion City. There are only a few Trainers here, but it does lead back to the Snorlax just outside the city. To wake it up, tune the Pokégear's radio to the Poké Flute Channel and examine snoozing creature to place the radio near it. Annoyed, it attacks the nearest living thing. After the battle, Diglett's Cave is no longer blocked, leaving you free to continue through the tunnel.

Diglett's Cave

Diglett's Cave

With the Fuchsia beach blocked off, the only other way to reach western Kanto is through Diglett's Cave, a long tunnel that links Vermilion's east side with Route 2 in the northwest.

Route 2

Route 2

Route 2 connects Viridian City to the south and Pewter City to the north. Visit the man in the house to get a Nugget, then pass through the gate and cut through the trees to reach the west side. Hike through the remains of Viridian Forest on the way northward.

Pewter City

Pewter City

Pewter City is home to two major attractions—the Pewter Museum of Science and the Pewter Gym. The museum has closed for renovations, but the Gym is still accepting challengers.

Time for a Trade

A man inside the Pokémon Center would like to trade. He is looking for a Haunter, and is willing to trade his Xatu for it.

The Rock Solid
POKéMON Trainer

The Pewter Gym specializes in Rock-type Pokémon. Grass-type attacks—like the Giga Drain TM move from Celadon Gym—will inflict heavy damage against all six Pokémon in the building. In addition, Brock's Graveler, Rhyhorn, and Onix are weak against Water moves, while his Omastar and Kabutops are vulnerable to Electric attacks. Look out for Earthquake and Sandstorm, which takes its toll on all but Rock, Ground, and Steel Pokémon.

The Boulder Badge

Defeated, Brock awards you the Boulder Badge, which gives a slight boost to your party's Attack.

The Second Feather

There is an old man strolling around the east side of town. Speak to him to receive the Silver Wing, a feather he found while training in Johto. This allows you to track down the second legendary bird, Lugia, in the Whirl Islands.
