Information
Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the franchise, the Generations expansion (Japanese: スターターパック Starter Pack) of the Pokémon Trading Card Game is a special set released in English on February 22, 2016 and in Japanese on February 27, 2016. It features an incredible amount of Pokémon from Generation I, via means such as Pokémon-EX and Full Art cards. The English set includes the second Radiant Collection subset, a concept first featured in the English Legendary Treasures expansion. This Collection originates from the Japanese PokéKyun Collection, released only a month before.
Generations features 16 Pokémon-EX, 4 of which are Mega Evolution Pokémon. The English release brings together the Japanese BREAK Starter Pack and the aforementioned PokéKyun Collection, and includes various Japanese XY-P Promotional cards. The full set includes the 83 regular cards plus the Radiant Collection 32 card subset (separately numbered with the prefix RC), bringing the English total of cards available to 115. Each pack contains ten random cards; this set of ten includes eight cards from the 83 card Generations set and two of the Radiant Collection cards.
Unlike most expansions, Generations is not available via individual booster packs and instead is only included in special collections available throughout the 20th Anniversary celebration. The first method of obtaining the cards is via the Mythical Pokémon Collection, the first of which is Mew (available in February) and the last of which is Meloetta (available in December). Each of the eleven box sets includes a different Mythical Pokémon's full-art card (part of the XY Black Star Promos set), its pin, and two of the Generations TCG packs of cards. They can also be found in the 'Red & Blue Collection', which consists of special box sets for Venusaur-EX, Charizard-EX, Blastoise-EX, and Pikachu-EX; each contains four packs of cards as well as full-art cards and either a sculpted figure of the featured EX character or a jumbo version of the featured EX card.
