Photon Geyser (Japanese: フォトンゲイザー Photon Geyser) is a damage-dealing Psychic-type move introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It is one of the signature moves of Necrozma. It can be upgraded to the special Z-Move Light That Burns the Sky by Ultra Necrozma, via Ultranecrozium Z.
Effect
Photon Geyser compares the user's Attack and Special Attack stats, dealing damage to the target using the higher stat. If the user's Attack is greater than its Special Attack, the move will be a physical attack; if its Special Attack is equal to or greater than its Attack, it will remain a special attack. When determining which stat is higher, factor in changes to the stats that result from stat stages such as Swords Dance or Calm Mind, but not from any other source such as Huge Power or Choice Band. If Photon Geyser is determined to be physical, it will be treated as physical in all aspects; it's shielded by Reflect but not Light Screen, it enables Counter but not Mirror Coat, and it triggers Kee Berry but not Maranga Berry. This move also ignores the target's Ability if the Ability changes the effect of the attack on the target, much the same way as moves used by a Pokémon with Mold Breaker. Abilities that affect the user of the attack, like Pressure, are not ignored. Photon Geyser does not ignore the effects of Shadow Shield and Prism Armor. Photon Geyser's ability-ignoring effect does not apply if it is used via a move that calls another move.
Other effects
Photon Geyser does not exist in the game data of Pokémon Sun and Moon. As a result, a Pokémon knowing Photon Geyser cannot be traded from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon to Sun and Moon, and if a Pokémon in Pokémon Bank knows the move it cannot be withdrawn in Pokémon Sun and Moon. In order to be transferred to Pokémon Sun and Moon, the Pokémon must forget Photon Geyser.
