A Signature Pokémon is a trainer's strongest Pokémon, and usually represents that trainer's favorite type. The easiest way to identify a signature Pokémon is that they are that trainer's highest level Pokémon and are usually of their chosen type. They also tend to have a held item and have unique moves that can only be taught by TMs or breeding.

Trivia

  • Aaron is the only Gym Leader or Elite Four member whose signature Pokémon isn't of his chosen type, with Drapion being a Poison/Dark type. However, it does evolve from a Template:P2.
  • Aaron is also the only member of the Sinnoh Elite Four who didn't change his signature Pokémon for Pokémon Platinum.
  • Flint is the only Gym Leader or Elite Four member who uses a starter Pokémon as his signature Pokémon, in this case being Infernape. However, if Pikachu is counted as a starter, then Lt. Surge can also be included, since he uses Raichu.
  • Gengar is the most common signature Pokémon, being used by a total of three of the Ghost trainers, with Phoebe being the only Ghost trainer who doesn't use a Gengar as her signature Pokémon at any point. Kingdra is the only other Pokémon that has been used by more than one trainer as their signature Pokémon, although the two trainers that use him specialise in different types.
  • From Generation II onwards, it is common for the Champion to use a Pseudo-legendary as their signature Pokémon, with only Wallace not using one.
  • Erika, Koga and Candice have all had the most signature Pokémon, with a total of three each. However, while Erika and Koga changed Pokémon due to a Generation shift, Candice changed her signature Pokémon twice in the same Generation!
  • Falkner, Bugsy, Morty and Chuck are the only Gym Leaders whose signature Pokémon are not from the Generation they were introduced in during their intial battle. Wallace also used a Pokémon from a different generation, until he changed his signature Pokémon to Manectric in Pokémon Emerald. However, Emerald also introduced Juan, whose signature Pokémon is also from a previous Generation.
