Rapidash (Japanese: ギャロップ Gallop) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Ponyta starting at level 40.
Biology
Physiology
Rapidash is a horse-like Pokémon. It has a horn, reminiscent of a unicorn.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
It runs at 150 miles per hour, Template:A2, chasing everything that moves in hopes of racing it.
Behavior
Rapidash is a very agile Pokémon. It lives on mountains along with other Rock and Fire Pokémon, so it is quite possibly alone - not with a relation, such as a Rapidash friend or mate. They are the highest evolved form of Ponyta and are highly capable in battle.
Habitat
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
It mostly grazes on grass, but it can sometimes be found with the Shuca Berry.
In the anime
Ash used a Ponyta belonging to Lara Laramie in the Pokémon Marathon in The Flame Pokémon-athon. The Ponyta evolved into Rapidash near the end of the race, winning it.
Rapidash was also one of the Pokémon cloned by Mewtwo in Mewtwo Strikes Back.
Stella had a Rapidash in her circus in It's Mr. Mime Time.
Jon Dickson used a Rapidash in the final match of the Silver Conference in Johto Photo Finish.
In the manga
Blaine is seen with a Rapidash as his steed in Pokémon Special. He rides Rapidash into Mewtwo's Psywave in an attempt to finish the Genetic Pokémon off. To protect Red, Blaine's Rapidash creates a fireball wall around the Trainer to shield him from the impending blast. It also appeared in the Emerald Saga when Crystal lend the Rapidash she had to Emerald. In the DPPt Saga, Platina's Ponyta evolved in her Gym battle against Byron.

Trivia
- The original English name for Rapidash was going to be its Japanese name, "Gallop" but was later changed.
- Rapidash is the favorite Pokémon of the Kanto Pokémon Fan Club President. When the player first speaks to him, he goes on about why Rapidash is his favorite Pokémon at length. The picture in Pokémon Yellow shows this Rapidash with a gold-blue color. However, this could be due to the color scheme of the game.
- In the first movie, there is a split second where Rapidash has no flames.
- It is one of the few Pokémon in Pokémon Ranger and Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia to have the same field move in both games.
Origin
Rapidash's horn shows it may have been inspired by unicorns, but it doesn't seem to have anything else in common with unicorns, being more like a regular horse. It would also seem that Rapidash, along with its Template:P2, are based on Pyrios, Aeos, Aethon, and Phlegon, the "fiery steeds" that carried the Greek God Helios's Chariot of the Sun around the world each day.
Name origin
Rapidash's name could be a combination of rapid and dash, referring to the high speed at which it runs or possibly rapid and ash, referring to the fact that Rapidash has fire on its body. It can also be rapido, Spanish for fast. Its Japanese name is simply the word gallop, which is the form of running of hooved animals.
In other languages
- German: Gallopa
- French: Galopa - From galop or galopade (gallop).
- Korean: 날쌩마 Nalssaengma
- Chinese (Hong Kong): 烈焰馬 - Literally "roaring flame horse (or horse of roaring flames)".
