First, Ash, Dawn and Brock encounter a Hippopotas trapped on a cliff. It appears scared and they decide to help it get down from it. Ash and the gang climb up the cliff, and use a rope to support Ash down onto the platform where Hippopotas is. Ash tries to reassure Hippopotas, but it bites his hand. He redraws it quickly, and Pikachu slides down the rope, and comforts Hippopotas, with success. Ash then hoists Hippopotas onto his head and is lifted onto the cliff by Brock and Dawn. The gang find that Hippopotas really wanted to get the fruit on a tree, but fell in the process, so Ash gets a fruit for him, which Hippopotas devours whole, with the words "hippo hippo (gug)". Ash, Dawn and Brock came across Rhonda and her Sinnoh Now Staff who are making a film about Hippopotas. Rhonda tells them that a male Hippopotas got lost from his family, so they decide to help him to return with his family, but Team Rocket have their eyes locked on him. Hippopotas is soon lured into a trap by Team Rocket, and is brought into their balloon. He engages in a Yawn attack, resulting in Meowth fallling asleep. Then, Brock also gets hit by a yawn, followed with Dawn, saying "Mom, I won..." which Brock responds by saying, "a contest, she means."

The gang are walking across the river, when Team Rocket tries to get at Hippopotas, only to crack the bridge, sending Hippopotas, Ash, and the gang, into the water.

It is known that Hippopotas hate water, so Hippopotas struggles to get onto the surface, but in vain. Then Ash's Buizel rescues it. The scene is skipped to a scene where Dawn is drying Hippopotas while Ash is drying his own body. They decide to take Hippopotas to the nearest Pokémon Center, and hurry off.

At the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy asks Ash and the gang to gather nice, dry sand for a bath for Hippopotas, which they do. Afterwards, Hippopotas is soaked in the sand, and shows signs of recovery. They decide to "discharge" it front the Pokémon Center. On their way out, they see a pair of sand salespeople (which actually are Team Rocket) and decide to let Hippopotas try the sand, before buying it. Then, Team Rocket closes the bag, but, before they do, Hippopotas rushes out. The group heads off to a large desert, where they see Hippopotas footprints. They sense that Hippopotas are near, when Hippopotas calls out to them, resulting in plenty of Hippopotas popping out of the soil. They leave Hippopotas there, but, before that, Ash tosses him a fruit, which it gobbles down. Our heroes wave goodbye, resulting in Ash being hit by a yawn, falling asleep.

Trivia

File:KanjiDub.jpg
Kanji left in the dub.
  • The road construction sign that was written in kanji was left unedited in the dub.
  • The same Hippopotas from this episode appears in Sleight of Sand!.
  • When Jessie states that she wants a script change, Meowth says "they'll call Cassidy". Coincidently, in the next episode this same Hippopotas appears in, Cassidy is in it.

Errors

  • When Rhonda met up with Ash, Dawn and Brock, she was holding the microphone in her right hand and waved them with her left hand. The next screenshot, it was reversed, but after that it switched again.

Dub edits
