Pokémon world locations |
The National Park (Japanese: しぜんこうえん Nature Park) is a location in Johto. It is located to the north of Goldenrod City, between Route 35 and Route 36. The Bug-Catching Contest takes place there every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Geography
The park is a place full of Trainers and their Pokémon. Most of the people talk about printing pictures off from the Pokédex, a reference to the Game Boy Printer that was released two years before the games.
By stepping into the grass in the main area of the park, the Trainers will challenge the player to a battle. If, however, the player stays out of the grass, they will not notice the player. They will also not battle during a Bug-Catching Contest.
The National Park contains the first extremely long grass encountered in the games. When it is Cut, it changes into short grass before disappearing. A bike can also be ridden in it in Generation II, unlike the case in later generations.
The main area of the park resembles a Poké Ball.
Pokégear's Map Information
A spacious and beautiful park. It’s connected to the Pokéathlon Dome.

Trivia
- Though some fans consider National Park a Safari Zone, it is too different to be categorized as one. In addition, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver added a Safari Zone in Johto separate from the National Park.
- A beta version of National Park was seen prior to the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver.
- Scyther and Pinsir appear in every variation of the Bug-Catching Contest, which is unusual, considering that they're always among the hardest to find.
