Ledian (Japanese: レディアン Redian) is a dual-type Bug/Flying Pokémon.
It evolves from Ledyba starting at level 18.
Biology
Physiology
Ledian resembles a large, mostly red ladybug. It has two black antennae, a black neck and a black spot in the center of its forehead. Its two eyes are large, blue and slanted, reminiscent of the stereotypical alien. Its four arms are like those of its pre-evolved form Ledyba: black stalks with cartoonish white fists at the end. Its two legs are similar to its arms, but end with large red feet. Its back is red in coloration, with the undersides of the ladybug-like wing covers yellow.
Gender differences
A female has shorter antennae.
Special abilities
Due to its fists, which are like boxing gloves, Ledian is capable of using Template:Type2 moves such as Mach Punch. Ledian is also able to emit ultrasonic cries that have the power to befuddle foes.
Behavior
Ledian appears nocturnal or crepuscular in activity, sleeping in the daytime inside a big leaf. When the stars flicker in the night sky, Ledian flutters about, scattering a glowing powder. The star patterns on its back grow larger or smaller depending on the number of stars in the night sky.
Habitat
Because they need starlight to use as energy, Ledian are likely to inhabit places where the night skies are usually clear and the air is clean. They may sleep in forests when it is daytime.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
It may be possible, as Ledian uses the light of the stars as energy, that starlight can be considered as its food.
In the anime
Major appearances
Ledian's first major appearance in the anime was in Mountain Time under the ownership of Benji. He and his father worked with their Pokémon in a mountain patrol.
Minor appearances
Ledian's first appearance in the franchise (before Mountain Time), was in Mewtwo Returns. Many wild Ledian worked together with other Template:Type2 Pokémon to save Mount Quena from Team Rocket.
Ledian made a small appearance in The Rise of Darkrai as one of the Pokémon Darkrai hit with a Dark Void attack as the other Trainers were attacking him.
Another one appeared in A Trainer and Child Reunion!.

Trivia
- Ledian is one of the three Pokémon having a total of four arms, the other two being Machamp and Graveler.
- Despite Ledian and its pre-evolution not being Fighting-type, they are still able to learn the Fighting-type move Mach Punch naturally
- Before Generation IV, Ledian and its prevolution, Ledyba, were not able to learn any Bug-type moves via level-up, TM, or move tutor. Due to this, its Swarm ability is unusable, unless Silver Wind is obtained via breeding.
- In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum games, Ledian and Ariados can both be found in the wild, while their respective pre-evolutionary forms cannot.
Origin
Ledian's appearance is that of a ladybird with its shell opened and wings outstretched.
Name origin
Ledian's name is based on ladybird, also known as a ladybug. It also appears to incorporate alien into its name, owing to its head which appears similar to greys.
In other languages
- Chinese (Taiwan): 安瓢蟲 Ān Piáo Chóng - 安 is a transliteration of the "an" in its Japanese name. 瓢蟲 means ladybug.
- French: Coxyclaque - From Coccinella and claque (slap), probably referring to the Pokémon's punching-glove like fore- and mid-legs.
- German: Ledian
- Korean: 레디안 Redian
