Servine (Japanese: ジャノビー Janovy) is Template:Type2 Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Snivy starting at level 17 and evolves into Serperior starting at level 36.

Biology

Physiology

Similar to its pre-evolution, Snivy, Servine is primarily green with a cream-colored underside. It has a yellow collar-like structure that starts at the chest and proceeds behind the shoulders. Three palmate leaves grow along its back and tail. Servine has four short limbs and a small crest protruding from the back of its head. It has narrow red eyes and a sneering face.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Servine is incredibly fast. When it runs, it appears to be gliding over the ground. It uses its speed to its advantage to confuse opponents.

Behavior

It is a sneaky Pokémon that creeps in the shadows of overgrown plants, striking down opponents with its whips.

Trivia

Origin

Servine's color scheme is similar to its species' possible namesake, Opheodrys aestivus, the North American grass snake, while Oxybelis fulgidus, the Central and South American vine snake, may be the basis for its general serpentine features. Its head and general body shape, as well as the yellow crest on its body and shoulders, may be based on the birds of paradise flowers or false birds of paradise. Its evolutionary line was confirmed by Ken Sugimori to have been based on French royalty. Servine's physical appearance may have been based on the acanthus leaf motifs used specially during the 14th and 18th centuries.

Name origin

Janovy's name may come from 蛇 ja, meaning snake, and canopy or ivy.

In other languages

Language Name Name Origin
Chinese (Mandarin) 青藤蛇 Qīng Téng Shé Literally "Green vine snake". May also be from 常青藤 (ivy).
