Fury Swipes (Japanese: みだれひっかき Disturbed Scratch) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 multi-hit move introduced in Generation I.
It appears to be a counterpart to Fury Attack, as the type, effect and names are the same or very similar.
Effect
Generation I
Fury Swipes inflicts damage, hitting 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. Although only the first hit can critical hit, each successive hit after will deal the same amount of damage.
Fury Swipes will end immediately if it breaks a Substitute. Bide and Counter will only acknowledge the last hit of this move.
Taking the average number of hits into account, Fury Swipes could be considered to have an effective power of 54.
Generation II and III
Same as Generation I, but all hits will do damage independently, consequently enabling any of them to be critical.
Generation IV
Same as Generation III, except it will continue attacking after a Substitute is broken.
Generation V
Unlike previous generations, if Focus Sash, Focus Band, or Sturdy activate before the last hit is dealt, the following hit will cause the defending Pokémon to faint. Each hit will also cause Weak Armor to activate.
