Fraxure (Japanese: オノンド Onondo) is a Dragon-type Pokémon.

It evolves from Axew starting at level 38 and evolves into Haxorus starting at level 48.

Biology

Physiology

Fraxure is a bipedal Pokémon with long, gray and red-tipped tusks protruding from the sides of its mouth. Fraxure has dark eyes with red irises, a gray face, and a cowl-like feature of green segments on its head, neck, back and chest. Its arms have three red fingers, and its lower body is gray, with red speckles on the underbelly, as well as red toes and a red tip to its tail.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Its tusks are strong enough to break boulders.

Behavior

Fraxure are very violent and territorial. Fights over turf often break out between them. After a fight, they sharpen their tusks, as unlike Axew's tusks, Fraxure's tusks do not regenerate.

Habitat

They inhabit places like riversides where they can sharpen their tusks on river rocks after an intense fight.

Trivia

  • Fraxure was the first Generation V Pokémon to be designed.[1]
  • Requiring 38 levels to evolve from Axew and just 10 more to evolve into Haxorus, Fraxure has the distinction of having the lowest relative second-stage evolution requirement, at just 26%.
  • Fraxure represents December in the Unova horoscope.

Origin

Fraxure's tusks are similar in appearance to a Scutosaurid's or possibly Ceratopsid's cheekbone tusks and are also similar to pickaxe blades. Its crest may be based on a Hadrosaurid's (more specifically a Saurolophid's or perhaps a Corytophanid's) or possibly the Plumed basilisk's.

Name origin

Fraxure is a corruption of fracture (to break something, usually hard organic material, such as bone) and may be a combination of fracture and axe.

Onondo may be a combination of 斧 ono (axe) and don (Ancient Greek for tooth).
