The Team Magma Hideout (Japanese: マグマ団アジト Team Magma Hideout), called Magma Hideout in the Generation III games, is Team Magma's base of operations in the Hoenn region, located on a small island cave on the outskirts of Lilycove City. In Pokémon Emerald, it is instead located inside Mt. Chimney, with the entrance on the Jagged Pass.
Geography
Team Magma's Hideout in
Ruby
It is located in the same place as the Team Aqua Hideout and has the same features. It is located just east of Lilycove City, in an area only accessible after Team Magma has stolen the submarine in Slateport City.
On the inside, the player will find teleport platforms scattered about. There are also a number of Grunts to take on, including the team's admin Tabitha who will tell the player that Maxie, the leader of Team Magma, has left with the submarine to the watery depths near Sootopolis City.
After finishing everything in the Hideout, the player is free to move onto Route 124 which was previously blocked by a Grunt trying to train his Wailmer. Route 124 connects to Mossdeep City.
After defeating Tate and Liza, the entrance to the hideout is sealed, meaning the player can no longer collect any items or battle any trainers inside.
The Magma Hideout is not present in this game, as Team Magma is assisting the player in his or her efforts to defeat Team Aqua.
It is located inside of Mt. Chimney, only accessible if the player has the Magma Emblem. The entrance is located in the middle of Jagged Pass, and before the events of the Magma Emblem, it is guarded by a Team Magma Grunt, who will battle the player once and not leave his post. It is where Groudon is awakened by the power of the Blue Orb after the player defeats Maxie.
On the inside, the new Magma Hideout is very different from the old one. It is a series of tightly fixed caves that expand into different areas, with strange machines scattered around the place. In one room, there are excavation drills for digging deeper into the volcano. This hideout is less confusing than the old one, as there are no teleport platforms scattered about.
There are also a number of Grunts to take on, including the team's admin Tabitha, along with Team Magma boss's Maxie. After defeating Maxie, Groudon will be awakened by the power of the Blue Orb.

In the anime
Magma Hideout in the anime
In Gaining Groudon, the Magma Hideout was shown to be a large, mobile sea fortress. Ash and his friends were taken prisoners there, but they escaped in the confusion when Kyogre escaped with the help of Team Aqua. Team Magma evacuated safely, but their hideout sank because of the huge hole in the side caused by Kyogre's Hyper Beam attack.
In the manga
Magma Hideout in Pokémon Ruby-Sapphire
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
A fixed hideout does not appear to exist in this universe, as Maxie only decides which places to discuss important matters in on a whim. However, Team Aqua have a hideout that seems to reflect on its location in Sapphire.
In the Pokémon Ruby-Sapphire manga
The hideout briefly appeared in We've Found Team Magma's Secret!! where Maxie was discussing with Team Magma about their plans with Mr. Briney and Peeko.
In the TCG
This listing is of cards mentioning or featuring Team Magma Hideout in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Trivia
- Because the entrance is sealed after defeating Tate and Liza, if the player does not obtain the Master Ball here before that, they cannot get the Master Ball without winning the Lilycove Department Store Pokémon Lottery Corner or trading one in. This does not happen in Omega Ruby, which means you can still get the Master Ball and any additional item you missed right after catching/ defeating Groudon.
- In Pokémon Omega Ruby, the Project AZOTH files incorrectly state that Team Magma intends to return the world to the beginning, to its original state. That is actually Team Aqua's goal in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, while Team Magma's objective is the exact opposite — to accelerate progress and development by creating more explorable land.
