Baa de Mer Ranch (Japanese: メェール牧場 Mehr Ranch) is a location in Kalos. It is located in Route 12.
In the games
In Pokémon X and Y, the Baa de Mer Ranch is a ranch which raises several Skiddo, where the player is able to ride on one of three Skiddo to navigate the route. When riding on Skiddo, the player can guide the Skiddo to jump over low, broken parts of fences and over ledges in the opposite direction. This allows the player to access parts of the route which are normally blocked by these obstacles. The Skiddo cannot walk up or down stairs or in narrow sections of paths, which limit the how far in the route the Skiddo can move. When riding on Skiddo the music will change, and no battles will be initiated with wild Pokémon or with other Pokémon Trainers. The player cannot interact with NPCs or signs, use field moves such as Fly or Sweet Scent, or use Honey while riding on Skiddo.
The player can dismount from the Skiddo anywhere in the route, except in grass or flowers.
In the anime
Baa de Mer Ranch was featured in A Race for Home!. Ash and his friends stopped by there for its delicious cheese and ice cream. Serena reunited with Grace while Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie met her for the first time in person. Grace taught the children in Baa de Mer Ranch about Pokémon racing. Ash and Bonnie got on a Skiddo and successfully rode on them whereas Clemont easily fell on one of them.
Later, Team Rocket came by and infiltrated the storage room full of cheese. One of the workers caught them and told Grace about the theft. The group temporarily left the ranch with Ash, Bonnie, and Clemont riding Skiddo and Serena riding a Rhyhorn. After successfully getting the cheese back, the group returned to Baa de Mer Ranch and Grace had a Skiddo race with Serena, with the condition that if Grace won, Serena would have to return home to continue training as a Rhyhorn racer. Despite falling off a Skiddo that Serena rode on, Serena was able to catch up to Grace and win the race. Following the race, the group left Baa de Mer Ranch and continued onto Coumarine City.
Name origin
Baa de Mer Ranch is derived from baa (onomatopoetic bleating of sheep) and de mer (French for "of the sea").
Its Japanese name is a corruption of mer (French for sea) and a contraction of メェークル Meecle, Skiddo's Japanese name.
