(Japanese: カロスリーグ開幕!メガリザードン対決・X対Y!! The Kalos League Begins! The Mega Lizardon Showdown: X VS Y!!) is the 125th episode of the XY series, and the 924th episode of the Pokémon anime. It first aired in Japan on June 30, 2016.
Plot
The participating Trainers inaugurate the Lumiose Conference. Ash and gang arrive in Lumiose City, and it's finally time for the biggest showdown. Familiar faces are spotted, such as Alain, Trevor, Tierno, and Sawyer. In a surprise interview from Malva, Ash states why he is there: to be the very best, and reach the apex of his pursuit of power, as a Pokémon Trainer.
However, a red-head Trainer with a Kabuki Trim Furfrou is spotted who gives a disrespectful sneer to Ash's optimism, and challenges him to a battle, skeptical of his capabilities. Being carried away by his enthusiasm, Ash almost accepts the challenge, but he is immediately held back by the rest of the gang, who admonish him for not being prudent and worry about arriving late. However, they exchange pep talks with fellow competitors like Tierno and Alain. The next day, the grand ceremony is unfurled. Champion Diantha delivers an encouraging speech, and towards the end, fireworks are displayed.
The computer had randomly matched up 64 Trainers against each other the previous day, and Ash is to face a Trainer named Tomo, while Alain and Trevor are pitted against each other. The matches commence accordingly, with the first battle being that of Alain and Trevor.
Both the Trainers send out their Charizard. Trevor opens with Fire Spin, which is evaded by Alain's Charizard. Alain retaliates with Flamethrower, which Trevor counters with Dragon Claw. Trevor Mega Evolves his Charizard into Mega Charizard Y. Its first attack is again skillfully dodged by Alain's Charizard. Alain then decides to Mega Evolve his own Charizard into Mega Charizard X. Mega Charizard X completely outmatches Trevor's Mega Charizard Y as well as his Aerodactyl and Florges afterwards, and Alain cuts short Trevor's League challenge. The spectators are awestruck by Alain's performance.
Meanwhile, Ash reaches the pathway that leads to the stadium, having been summoned for his match against Tomo, but he is intercepted by Takeru, the red-headed Furfrou Trainer, who immediately challenges him to a battle in exchange for letting him pass. Provided with no other choice, Ash agrees, and pits his Pikachu against Takeru's Furfrou. After exchanging a flurry of destructive attacks, Pikachu emerges victorious, and Takeru sags down to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably. He tells Ash to win his League challenge, and Ash nods affirmatively.
The battle with Takeru has made Ash extremely late and the referee is just about to declare a walk-over victory for Tomo, but Ash appears in the nick of time and the battle is begun. Ash chooses Greninja while Tomo sends out Altaria. Greninja takes a powerful Dragon Pulse from Altaria with ease. Ash and Greninja then combine into their Ash-Greninja form. Ash-Greninja adeptly evades a barrage of Draco Meteors from Altaria and delivers a flurry of Water Shurikens, ultimately overpowering Altaria.
As the sun sets on the preliminary rounds, it is revealed that Ash, Tierno, and Sawyer all made it through the first round. The second round matchups pit Sawyer against Tierno and Ash against Astrid.

Trivia
- Poké TV: "Kalos League News" focusing on the competitors in the Lumiose Conference, as well as Diantha.
- This episode begins the Lumiose Conference arc.
- A remix of XY&Z is used as an insert song when Ash's Greninja turns into its Ash-Greninja form.
- Ash, Sawyer, and Tierno narrate the preview for the next episode.
- Two of the Trainers in the Lumiose Conference are also two of the participants in the Pokémon Summer Camp.
Errors
- In the long shot of the two Mega Charizard, the tips of Mega Charizard X's wings are blue instead of black.
- During Ash's battle in the hallway, the grey color on Ash's left sneaker is larger than normal and the area at the front is red instead of white.
- In the split second it is on screen before showing Alain as the winner, the scoreboard at the end of the battle incorrectly shows him having used Blastoise and Ludicolo (both of which display as having been knocked out).
- Like in Rivals: Today and Tomorrow! and A Meeting of Two Journeys!, when Ash holds up Greninja's Poké Ball the white center and black band around the white button is much larger than normal.
- In between the transformation of Ash-Greninja, Greninja is shown to have the pulse meter on its wrist which wasn't shown in between the battle earlier.
