Jay Goede = Phillip Bartlett?
A user on Behind the Voice Actors' forums talked with an actor named Jay Goede, who claims he was the original English voice of both Mewtwo and the doctor who created him: https://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/forums/showthread.php?s=d30b15a4e3ac8dcb7232a185d266f0b7&t=13970

Ambertwo's death

When and where did anything ever say that Ambertwo and the other clones died from "exhaustion due to being a clone" in the birth of Mewtwo or anything for that matter. It is not explained why they die they just do to my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong. Also, wo said the will of a human isn't as strong as the will of a pokemon? If thats truw then the Ambertwo should have died first, then charmandertwo, followed by Squiertletwo and bulbasaurtwo, and that didn't happen.Wikid 01:20, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

As Jmath, JSFighter or anyone else has thus far not said anything to explain their added unlikely info, I have changed it back to what it last was. But I'm pretty certain that it never gives you the reason as to why they died at all, so even what I cahnged it to still seems rather wrong.--Tails Clock 13:27, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Computer Attack

Italic textA computer attacked and killed him to protect the scientists, but Mewtwo quickly regenerated and destroyed the island and everyone on it. Italic text When did that happen?

In the movie, in the first few opening scenes. Wikid 01:20, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Killed? It totally missed; Mewtwo is too powerful. TTEchidna 02:57, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

That computer most certaintly didn't kill him. It latched on to him and then Mewtwo just simply blasted it off of him. --いぬみみ 01:58, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

It apsolutely DID NOT kill him! Nor did it even intend to. Those robotic arms were ment to restrain him, not destroy him, but as InuMimi said; he made quick work of them. Artbender 22:45, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Giovanni's?

I think the infobox shouldn't mention Giovanni if Mewtwo isn't referred to as Giovanni's Mewtwo in the title or the rest of the article. --Johans 19:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Gender

I don't think Mewtwo's gender should be "none" since it's unknown if genderless Pokemon apply in the anime, and therefore, not 100% confirmed. In fact i think it's very unlikely that it's genderless since there was a female (mother) Lugia in the series, so it should be "Unknown" (GT4GTR 11:18, 16 June 2008 (UTC))

I think we should go a bit further and addend the "unknown" and add "likely male" since all of Mewtwo's voice actors (even the Japanese ones) have been men. Also, I believe Mewtwo was referred to as a 'he' in the anime; and in the article Mewtwo is referred to as male. -Lord Hyren 04:44, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, if Mewtwo was referred to as a "He" in the anime, go ahead and change it. However, I just want to mention that VA's aren't exactly a determining factor of whether a Pokémon character is male or female. I mean, Ash's VA in almost all versions was a girl, and Ash IS a Guy. - unsigned comment from Weedle Mchairybug (talkcontribs)
Nuh-uh, Ash is totally a girl. TTEchidna 00:39, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
No, actually, he was indeed a guy. They always refer to Ash as a guy. Ashley was a disguise so he could sneak into the Celadon Gym, and wearing a dress doesn't make you a girl any more than wearing a cape makes you batman. Weedle Mchairybug 02:15, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
So those people who get brat implants aren't ladies? It's the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links02:18 29 Jun 2008
Wait... WHAT?! What did you mean "Brat implants"? I only mentioned that guys who wear dresses aren't girls anymore than little kids who wear capes are batman. Weedle Mchairybug 11:37, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Didn't mean to be sick, but I meant 'breast'. It's the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links11:44 29 Jun 2008

Ash's voice at least sounds male and that's what counts IMO. Same as Mewtwo. --いぬみみ 01:55, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Even though I think Mewtwo is a male, unless it is confirmed, it should be unknown. Also, we need to remove the gender specific pronouns in articles where the Pokémon's gender is unconfirmed, such as this.--Starlight the ampharos 00:01, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

If Mewtwo's gender is listed as "Unknown" in the infobox, then why is he constantly referred to as "he" in the actual article? We should either list him as male in the infobox, or refer to him as "it" in the article. I'm not really sure which, because although I personally think he is male, I recall the characters in the anime referring to him as "it" several times. Taromon777 11:52, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Remember that Giovanni did say "good boy" to Mewtwo as well in Mewtwo Returns. Nintenboy01 16:02, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh. Then maybe we should add it? Mewtwo's also referred to as "he" on the legendary duos page.--Starlight the ampharos 05:54, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Should it...

I don;t think a party table is the way to go. If we want to, maybe we can just have a section listing the clones. --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 13:06, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Did you watch the movie that was meant to be the prequel of the movie? See this link: http://serebii.net/movies/mewtwo/origin/pics2.shtml. It's one we STILL didn't create yet, and features Amber... ht14 21:37, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Shadow Ball

Should it be mentioned that Mewtwo used Shadow Ball? The move was introduced in Generation II and Mewtwo was probably not even meant to use Shadow Ball. Jmath 15:50, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

It is already, and think about it, Harrison's Blaziken used Blaze Kick before Generation III began. Same rules.--KukiTalk 15:52, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

That's different since when the Silver Conference came around, Generation III was already out. While Generation II was not even known about at the time of the movie. Jmath 15:54, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

They could've been plannng to put it in. Remember Snubbull and Marill in Pikachu's Vacation, the short that preceded the feature presentation?--KukiTalk 15:58, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

It's possible but still not definite. That's why I don't think it should be in the moves section. A small mention would be enough in the trivia section. Jmath 16:02, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Shouldn't the move be aura sphere? Mewtwo is one of wery little pokémon that can use it, see http://www.pokemondb.co.uk/move/aura-sphere - unsigned comment from Tomas (talkcontribs)

Aura Sphere would not be created until 7 years later. How in the world can it be Aura Sphere!?!? Besides, it more closely resembles a classic Shadow Ball attack. Even the Melee Mewtwo had it as an attack. --ケンジガール 05:35, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure Mewtwo never said a single word to it's cloned Venusaur...EcksAcksisAnimine 16:27, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

It was the trainer's pokemon who were named Bruteroot and Shellshocker. That's why Ash said: "I don't have a name for it, but I will use Charizard." Mewtwo never had to speak to his clones, he just made a nodding motion and VenusaurTwo stepped forword to battle. Artbender 22:48, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Disable

Mewtwo mentions disabling the special abilities of all the Pokémon just before the final fight. Doesn't this mean that it used the move Disable? And if so, shouldn't that be added to the Moves Used section? Mattachu

Disable only disables moves, not abilities. Solar Dragon 16:57, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Tell that to Team Rocket in The Ninja Poké-Showdown Weedle Mchairybug 17:27, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
But abilities weren't present in the first Generation, and judging by the fact that, for example, Charizard wasn't using moves like Flamethrower, I think that Mewtwo meant that it was disabling moves, hence Disable. Mattachu
Well, it has been years since I last watched it so I can't remember that well. If you think that he did, you can add it until contested by another person. Solar Dragon 18:11, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Childhood memories

"The cloned Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur look extremely similar to their cloned evolved forms. Mewtwo also mentions when it introduces them to Ash, Misty, Brock, Fergus, Corey, Neesha, and Nurse Joy that it also had a Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur, and that they evolved, which hints that it may have cloned them from its childhood friends."

I am questioning this, because as far as I remember, when the first movie was done (July 1998 Japan), the prequel about his childhood didn't exist yet. The prequel story first aired as a radio drama (September 1999) and much later as a short anime. Furthermore, in the prequel it says that all memories from his childhood were erased. - unsigned comment from Aicona (talkcontribs)

That "prequel" was part of the original Japanese movie that the failsacks at 4Kids cut to make Mewtwo "more evil". I mean, come now, we can't give something like that a heart. We can't make its anger be of misunderstanding. It's gotta be evil. TTEchidna 01:03, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Stares blankly at TTEchidna* Your being sarcastic, right? Mewtwo is not evil and his anger is of misunderstanding and hurt.

Anyway, I think it was mostly Amber he was focused on when they erased his memory, so EVERYTHING about her disappeared, but he vaguely remembered the others because they were not his main focus as they brain-wiped him. This is just my idea though, there's nothing to back it up. Artbender 22:54, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

TTE is always being sarcastic, and please stop commenting to old conversations. Thanks. 梅子 23:07, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Mewtwo's Where-abouts

Does anybody know where he is exactly? I mean anime wise. By the end of Mewtwo's Return it states he lives in a far away city, but I've also heard he's traveling the world. Has anyone heard any confirmed info as to his where-abouts? XDDD Yes, I know it's a stupid question but I'm a huge fan of Mewtwo. Artbender 05:12, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

It can pretty much be concluded that Mewtwo is just traveling the world in solitude. There's not much else he can he do at this point. Showing himself to the world could be risky on his part so now he just watches over civilization from skyscrapers, world skies, Ect. --Lordrogersmith6485 08:09, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I've heard that the city that Mewtwo is standing over at the end of Mewtwo Returns, is the city that amber was born in (the one that Ambertwo showd him in the Origien of Mewtwo short). I have my doughts that it's true but if anyone can confirm this it should be added to the trivia. EpicShadow 01:12, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

psychic balls?

seriously? no mention of the special pokeballs that mewtwo uses in the first movie? I came here looking for information about them, I don't even know what they're called. I'm guessing they're called psychic balls but since I have no information about them at all that is purely guess work and I'm probably wrong anyway. if any one has any info on this let me know

The Poké Ball page would have been a good place to check. Its the third bullet down in the anime part of this section. It probably could be mentioned on the page, but if we put too much detail then we'd risk getting a play-by-play synopsis of the movie. Werdnae (talk) 04:02, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

I think I read somewhere on the 'pedia that the city is New York. Sooooo... Unova ?--WenGobou 08:44, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Mewtwo Story Timeline?

Was it ever clarified exactly how long ago before the first movie did the 'Birth of Mewtwo' special take place? And for that matter, how long it took to create Mewtwo? --Lordrogersmith6485 04:30, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Nope. It never said; which is probably a good thing considering Pokemon time is all messed up Artbender 13:27, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Location

'At the end of the ordeal, Mewtwo erased Giovanni and his soldiers' memories of him, and decided to move throughout the world searching for the meaning of his life.' -- A quote from the article. Then how come in the location part of the infobox, it says Johto? I think it should be changed to Unknown. MAMOSWINEPwnz! (TaleOfTheToaster) 17:47, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Error on Article

Quoth the article: "...Ash was caught in their crossfire and turned to stone. After Ash is revived by the tears of the nearby Pokémon, clone and original alike, Mewtwo experiences a change of heart and stops his destructive rampage. Wanting to find himself, Mewtwo erased the memories of those present and he and his clones left New Island for Johto.

A few years later, Giovanni found Mewtwo's hiding place via one of their satellites and began a plan to capture him once again. However, this plan was foiled when Mewtwo again met with Ash..."

If Ash is still 10 years old after EVERYTHING, the above statement about a few years going by is not possible. Artbender 13:18, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

It is mentionned several times in the anime that years have passed since a certain event (for example in PK07, when Ash states that it has been a year since he and Pikachu first met). The narrator says that Ash is 10 in BW001. The Pokémon anime is in a floating timeline. --WenGobou 08:41, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Mewtwo's attacks

This says that Mewtwo used Counter and Disable in Mewtwo Strikes Back... I don't remember either of them being used. I have no idea when he would have used Counter... and as for Disable, I guess that's referring to the fact that he stopped all of the Pokémon from using special attacks in the fight? I'll admit, that did happen, but I wouldn't say that that's "Disable". Disable "disables" one attack from one Pokémon, not all the special attacks of every Pokémon in range. Unless its effect differs in the anime (which is possible, since a few attacks have been shown to have different effects in the anime than the games). But another reason I don't think that it was "Disable" was because Ash's Pikachu was able to use an electric attack on Ash after Ash was turned to stone. If Pikachu was "disabled" then he wouldn't have been able to do that. Unless the disable wore off, but if that was the case I'd think that the other Pokémon who were fighting would have had their disables worn off as well and would have started using special attacks on each other. Dannyjenn 20:10, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

  • They were used. AquaMaster 20:24, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
What I was trying to ask... is when were they used? I remember the Counter now (he re-directed a Hyper Beam).
But as for Disable, like I said, it wasn't used unless you consider everything I said about blocking everyone's special attacks to be "Disable". I don't think that it was... it seemed more to me like him using his powers to do so, but not specifically using any attack (like how he used his powers to make a storm, yet he wasn't using "Rain Dance"). Unless there was some other instance of him using Disable, but I really don't remember it ever being used. Dannyjenn 00:13, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Pokémon 3: The Movie

Mewtwo can be seen in one of the Japanese trailers for Pokémon 3 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maL-tyDMux8 ). Does anyone know... was he originally going to have a cameo in that movie... or was that just in the trailer as filler? Is this worth mentioning... maybe as trivia? Dannyjenn 01:08, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Soo... Why's this not listed?

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Striking_Back_Mewtwo_(10th_Movie_Promo) Likely an oversight given it's a Japanese promo, but it mentions the far less notable Dragonite based on his messenger in the TCG section. ;p Seems most, if not all, of the other cards from that promotional set aren't listed on their respective basis' pages, either. I wouldn't even know how to go about adding the section for some of them, so I'll leave it to someone that does. RiverShock (talk) 08:57, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

We currently don't know for sure whether or not this specific Mewtwo will reappear in the 16th Pokemon movie, but if it does, then yes, we should have info on Mewtwo's role in that movie. If the Mewtwo in said movie is a different one, then no, as the information will not apply to this Mewtwo. New Movie 16 Trailer

In the most recent trailers, when Mewtwo comes to save Ash, Ash seems to recognize Mewtwo. On Lizardon

Can someone add that Mewtwo's Charizard two known moves are Flamethrower and Seismic Toss? In the original dub Mewtwo commands it to finish off Ash's Charizard with that move. Hitmonchan107 (talk) 05:31, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Oh, one more thing. Even though it says on Mewtwo's infobox that it is genderless, wouldn't it be more fair to say it's "Gender unknown"? Considering that it's the anime where gender characteristics apply as opposed to the game, and the fact that Meowth fell in love with Meloetta, a supposedly "genderless" Pokemon. Hitmonchan107 (talk) 05:35, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
    • "Genderless" is our standard terminology. The games are the source material, so if the game says it's genderless, it is. Your reasoning is understandable, but the simple fact that Pikachu (a male) is voiced by a female actress contradicts it. It works the other way, too; Meloetta looks and sounds like a female but is definitely (not supposedly) a Pokémon with no gender. Looking/speaking/behaving like a certain gender does not make a Pokémon that gender. --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 10:21, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't know that. I thought that a Pokémon site was the best place to ask a question about Pokémon, but apparently I was wrong (which is strange, since other pages on this site have links to other websites with copyrighted content- assuming the problem in my message was copyright- without those messages being edited and removed from chronology).

Changing the topic, I would like to edit this page, but I cannot because it's protected. I would like to remove the male in "Mewtwo Returns" dub because it's not true: while at one point Giovanni sarcastically says "That's a good boy. Now you won't be able to run away from me again", Mewtwo is referred as "it" in the whole special. I also want to add Mario Zucca as Mewtwo's Italian voice in the first movie. --Abcd (talk) 13:28, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

New movie gender?

That was dubbed version only. That note is if there is no information in original version or something note worthy. Japanese version is the ultimate canon as far as I know and it overrides dubs if it has (dis)confirmed something. Marked +-+-+ (talk) 15:48, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

It's hard to say whether this really is (a very overpowered) Disable or just a random ability given to Mewtwo in the anime, such as its power to create globally catastrophic storms. --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 01:57, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

M16

Why did you delete the part mentioning it will appear in M16? If you see the trailer, when Mewtwo appears, Ash calls it by name, suggesting he knows it. In fact, Cilan looks at Ash surprised by the fact Ash knows Mewtwo, so I'm sure it is the same of M01 and co.... Franky7

Ash called it by name because he knows it's a Mewtwo, which he has seen before. All the information we have makes it too hard to tell if it's the same one or a different one. The information is leaning on different one at this point. Ataro (talk) 13:47, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Mmm I don't think so. Ash has met a Mewtwo (the same) twice, in M01 and in the Johto saga, so this may be a reminder. He can't remember it from M01 because Mewtwo deleted all his memory, so he can remember the only one in the Johto saga. For me, they're the same Pokémon. Franky7
Bulbapedia works with evidence. There isn't really hard evidence it is the same Mewtwo, nor is there really hard evidence it is a different Mewtwo. It isn't officially revealed whether this is the same Mewtwo or another one, and in such cases information on pages should reflect where the most evidence points to; at this moment there is more evidence that this is another Mewtwo. Of course Ash recognizes Mewtwo, if it really were a different Mewtwo, he would see the difference between this one and the first one. BlazingFist ☼ 14:21, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Ok, so let's wait the release =) Franky7

Italian voice

I found the italian voice of Mewtwo, Mario Zucca. Can someone add him? Franky7

Title

So we know that the Mewtwo in M16 is not this Mewtwo. I suggest that this page be moved to "Mewtwo (M01)". This is not the best description, as this Mewtwo actually debuted in EP063 and also appears in EP065 and Mewtwo Returns (The Uncut Story of Mewtwo's Origin and The Birth of Mewtwo as well if you want to count those). --SnorlaxMonster 13:52, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

How about "Mewtwo (Kanto)"? It was created/born in Kanto, and only migrated to Johto (much like any other recurring character who shows up in a different region). Also, what says M16 Mewtwo is different? I keep hearing this, but not any evidence that says so. Just curious. --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 17:20, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
SS026 and M16 apparently did, and the director has confirmed it is a different one. As for Mewtwo (Kanto); it could work, but it does also move to Johto which makes me unsure (although it's just as bad as calling it Mewtwo (M01) anyway, since they both ignore Mewtwo Returns). The other Mewtwo is currently at Mewtwo (M16), despite debuting in SS026, so I suppose it could also benefit from being Mewtwo (Unova). --SnorlaxMonster 17:34, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm really interested to see how they explain why another Mewtwo exists. In other news, I vote for "Mewtwo (Kanto)" and "Mewtwo (Unova)". --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 18:58, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
I think tagging them by region isn't correct, since perhaps the first Mewtwo was in Kanto, and the second Mewtwo was in Unova, but the first Mewtwo was also in Johto in a role just as presiding as its movie role [which is also the reason arguing off (M01) and (M16)]. So what about instead Mewtwo (original series) and Mewtwo (Black and White)? Or just (OS) and (BW). It's accurate to their debute. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 20:05, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
That works much better; I like it. --SnorlaxMonster 20:13, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
"Mewtwo (original series)" works as a title. It encompasses the media quite efficiently. Trak Nar (talk) 22:04, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
I like that title for this article, but I'd like to bring up "Mewtwo (Best Wishes series)" as my preferred title for the other one, since (a) Black and White is not Bulbapedia's standard title for that part of the anime, and (b) it easily disambiguates that it's the anime and not some other media that also uses the "Black and White" title (games, manga, etc). Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 23:30, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
I agree that "Mewtwo (original series)" is probably the best way to handle it, though on a personal level I'd keep it at just "anime". Either way it shouldn't be "M01" since he appeared in actual episodes and also Mewtwo Returns. Reign (talk) 08:21, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
I support "Mewtwo (OS)" for this article and "Mewtwo (BW)" for the other. --The Great Butler (talk) 09:10, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't really see how a character from Kanto who travels abroad cannot be specified by their home region, but oh well, I'm in the minority. Democracy, you've spurned me yet again. --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 17:04, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
I support as well the series distinction. I would go for "Mewtwo (Original series)" and "Mewtwo (Best Wishes series)" rather than OS and BW, but I support any anyway. We should leave "Mewtwo (M01)", "Mewtwo (Mewtwo Returns)", "Mewtwo (Kanto)" and "Mewtwo (Johto)" as redirections to the first Mewtwo, and "Mewtwo (M16)" and "Mewtwo (Unova)" as redirections to the second one. Oh wait, where is New Tork City located anyway? Unova? Decolora? --Gabo 2oo (talk) 20:59, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Both Mewtwo are the focal point of their respective movies named after them, so the title Mewtwo (M1)/Mewtwo (01) is more preferable. Plus its identity was never revealed in the anime series, just in the movies. Gary's PokeDex unable to identify Mewtwo in EP063 should be a perfect example as to why the article should be moved to "Mewtwo (01)" and not "Mewtwo (OS)" "OS" would imply that there were Mewtwo created during the Hoenn and Sinnoh saga as well. Be reminded that the anime incarnations of Mew are also titled under the movies. Hitmonchan107 (talk) 00:19, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Actually, it's the other way around. "Mewtwo OS" wouldn't imply that there are Mewtwo in Hoenn and Sinnoh at all, as the Hoenn and Sinnoh sagas are not part of the original series, only Kanto and Johto are (and to a lesser extent, the Orange Islands of course). Both Mewtwo appeared in specials outside of their respective movies, the first Mewtwo even appeared in a few episodes, so naming them with "movie" would be inaccurate. As for Mew, both Mew never appeared outside of their movies, so naming them with "movie" is accurate there. ☼ BlazingFist ☼ 00:27, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
I support Mewtwo (Original series) and Mewtwo (Best Wishes series) for the titles. PattyMan 00:30, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
And I do too of course, if that wasn't already clear from my previous post. I think that makes quite a lot of people who support this change. ☼ BlazingFist ☼ 00:38, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Except that the Takashima-voiced Mewtwo is under the title Mewtwo (M16), so explain that. If that Mewtwo has a title under a movie category, why can't this Mewtwo, the original Mewtwo, be named under its official debut film that boosted the popularity of the anime and made this anime incarnation of Mewtwo synonymous with the franchise? As for the Mewtwo's birth special, wasn't it retconned (in Japan) to become part of the first movie and not a separate episode to promote the film?
I don't support calling it "Mewtwo (OS)" since OS sounds ambiguous. "Mewtwo (M01)" should be the official title. It's where the Pokémon presented itself to the protagonist and the viewers as well as its obscure creation. Hitmonchan107 (talk) 00:42, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
I think the majority of people are supporting "Mewtwo (original series)" (which is not ambiguous), not "Mewtwo (OS)". "Mewtwo (M01)" is inadequate because it also appears in an equally major role in Mewtwo Returns and minor roles in several episodes. It doesn't matter when a character was introduced; the parenthetical disambiguation should describe it in all of its appearances, not just its first or most important one. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 00:48, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
It also makes a small cameo in the opening of Jirachi: Wish Maker though, so technically it also made an appearance on the Hoenn saga. Hitmonchan107 (talk) 00:51, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Those aren't counted as official appearances. Appearances in openings of movies have the same status as appearances in openings of episodes, they are unreliable and non-canon. ☼ BlazingFist ☼ 00:56, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
I put that page at "Mewtwo (M16)" because I simply didn't know where else to put it. Any move that these pages undergo has to address that both Mewtwo exist in more than just their movies. --The Great Butler (talk) 01:03, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Then why mention it on the article then if it's not important? To me the cameo provided a small continuity since it depicts Mewtwo guarding over possibly the same city it looked over in the end of "Mewtwo Returns". Hitmonchan107 (talk) 01:08, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
The cameo is mentioned in the article because (other than regular characters, who appear in most or all episodes) we mention every appearance of a character for thoroughness. Appearances that are just a few seconds long and aren't part of the storyline, in my opinion, aren't significant enough to worry about if they make disambiguation tougher. We've made it clear that "Mewtwo (M01)" is inadequate; if you insist that "Mewtwo (original series)" is inadequate because "Jirachi: Wish Maker" must be included, what title do you propose for it? I can't think of an elegant title that covers it, but if you're arguing this point, you should try to have something in mind, not just be a devil's advocate. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:13, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Devil's advocate? I'm not contradicting you, merely I feel that this Mewtwo should be categorized under the first movie which itself is eponymous with. "Mewtwo Returns" isn't a film, it's a special. Calling it "Mewtwo (M01)" still implies it's the Mewtwo of the original series, just in a more specific manner. Do you understand now? Hitmonchan107 (talk) 01:19, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
But that's just it: we shouldn't have to imply when we can outright state. Although "Mewtwo Returns" and the anime episodes aren't films, they are still important media that must be included. (The same for SS026 and the other Mewtwo, which also needs its article renamed.) "Mewtwo (M01)" leaves out everything but M01 and, by implication, suggests that it has had no other appearances, while "Mewtwo (original series)" does not leave out any appearances (the cameo notwithstanding) and accurately describes every time that it has appeared, including M01. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:26, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
But what other roles did it have other than two cameos in the anime series? M1 is where Mewtwo's role became important and focal to the storyline and unfurled its mysterious past, alliance with Giovanni and hatred for humanity. Sure, the (OS) label covers all of its appearances, but the (M1) label focused more on the character, making it less ambiguous. Hitmonchan107 (talk) 01:29, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
"What other roles did it have?" Have you forgotten Mewtwo Returns already? Mewtwo is an equally important part of both M01 and Mewtwo Returns, and favoring one over the other just because it was released in a different format makes no sense to me. Like I've said before — in my opinion, the "M01" tag is too specific because it completely ignores everything else this Mewtwo has appeared in. Emphasizing recognizability at the expense of correctness should never be done. By now I think we're starting to talk in circles and I've repeated all my reasons several times, so I won't be responding any further. I think my previous posts speak pretty well for themselves as to my reasons for preferring "Mewtwo (original series)" over "Mewtwo (M01)". Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:43, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
That's because the few users talking about this topic approving of your suggestion makes you think you're winning by a landslide. Ok, I request every active user of this week to vote for either Mewtwo (M1) or Mewtwo (OS). Hitmonchan107 (talk) 01:59, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

I still think my original suggestions are fine, but I understand that they bear the same issue (to a lesser degree) than "M01" and "M16". I think "(original series)" and "(Best Wishes series)" are too long (and far from "elegant"). I would prefer "(OS)" and "(BW)" --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 05:22, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

I vote for either "(OS)/(BW)" or "Original series/Best Wishes", whichever gets the most support. M01/M16 can't stay, IMO. --The Great Butler (talk) 06:12, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Theoretically I wouldn't mind BW because it's a commonly-used acronym for Best Wishes, but I've honestly never seen anyone use OS as an acronym for the original series except in this discussion here. I think OS would be too confusing since it isn't in common parlance. I'd strongly prefer if the two articles matched, but if the consensus were to be to mismatch them to be "original series" and "BW", I guess I won't argue. I just really don't like OS because it's not immediately recognizable the way AG, DP, or BW are. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 06:30, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Well, we'll have to get used to "OS" either way. If Mewtwo becomes defunct, are we going to do Mewtwo and Mewtwo every single time? We'll probably end up with something like Mewtwo and Mewtwo.
Mewtwo (OS)
Mewtwo (Japanese: ミュウツー Mewtwo) is a Psychic-type legendary Pokémon in the original series of the anime who was cloned from a Mew.
What ambiguity? --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 07:09, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Even if we had an os template, having an article titled "Mewtwo (OS)" is completely unexplanatory to anyone who doesn't edit Bulbapedia. Disambiguating parentheticals do no good if they don't reduce ambiguity, and arbitrary abbreviations that nobody uses except in one specific occasion don't reduce ambiguity. (Yes, the first paragraph disambiguates, but the parenthetical is meant to be there so someone doesn't have to click the link to find out what it's talking about.) On a secondary note, I actually doubt the necessity of those shortened link templates at all. We don't have shortened link templates for other characters with weird disambiguating parentheticals, such as Harrison ( Harrison ). I know "other stuff exists" isn't a valid point to make, but there doesn't seem to be any precedent I can see for creating link templates that only apply to a single thing. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 07:40, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
I could address the little things, but it'd become off-topic. All right. I don't want to seem like a Fighting type, so I'll quit Punching your gut on this. Just please, don't do "Mewtwo (Best Wishes series)". That's an obscene amount of words. I mean we could always avoid literally millions of man-hours of unnecessary typing by just using Mewtwo and Mewtwo you guys just saying guys. Think of aaaaaalll of the articles and sections of articles that refer to each Mewtwo. Are you gonna make those edits? Mark my words: Bulbapedia will run red. *is arrested, kicks, screams* --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 08:57, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
There is a catch-all code, btw, that works for everything and anyone with a () after its name. It's OBP (it's counterpart is FB). How do you think the (M04) and (M13) Celebi are linked to when all you wanna say is Celebi? It also won't be that hard changing any instances at all, especially with a little something called copy/paste, regardless of which title is chosen. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 11:17, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Especially with a little something called copy/paste. I hope you realize how condescending that sounds. Anyway, I'm starting to care less and less about what the Mewtwo articles are called/coded since I'm getting through to no one. We have { {OBP|Mewtwo|Original series} } looking like the upcoming template (despite [ [Mewtwo (Original series)|] ] being simpler and easier to type). One last thing about "OS" vs "Original series"… Ask someone who knows the anime but isn't familiar with Bulbapedia what the "original series" is, and they'll likely tell you that it means the Kanto saga while referring to Johto separately. Why, the animeologists among us know that originally the anime series was to end with the first movie and the Pokémon League. Of course, we've made the term mean Pokémon: Indigo League through Pokémon: Master Quest. The point is, why argue that "OS" is ambiguous when "original series" is barely less so? Heck, we use the prefix "EP" for the OS episodes despite neither the series being called that nor the creators officially using such enumeration. Most can ascertain that it means "episode," which is a level of ambiguity we've allowed (not even getting into the ridiculous level of ambiguity that results from using "EP" for 274 episodes in 3 distinct regions). "Original series" is a term neither the creators nor dubbers use. Really, only the fansites and knowledgeable fans who peruse those fansites do. How come we're so ready to nickname 5 seasons of the anime the "original series" yet unwilling to abbreviate it? --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 15:35, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

Meanwhile (M1)/(M01) actually specifies this very Mewtwo from its Gen V/VI M16 doppelganger. The very movie itself specified Mewtwo as a human-engineered Pokémon while the anime only showed its physical appearance and even then it was covered with that armor, something Mewtwo got rid off in the film. Hitmonchan107 (talk) 00:49, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

I... don't see how that's relevant at all to the most recent discussion, so I moved it over to the left side of the page. Are you still on about how Mewtwo's central role in M01 somehow supposedly makes that a good title for the article? If there's anybody that agrees with you, they certainly haven't spoken up so far. (And in response to your call for a vote a few days ago: that's not how Bulbapedia works. You can personally ask individual people to come give their opinions here, but it's impossible to make a mass call for everyone to vote. Bulbapedia isn't a democracy, either; if there's a general consensus, it'll usually be followed, but if there isn't, either the discussion will fizzle out and nothing will be done, or a Bulbapedia staff member will make an executive decision about the matter.) Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:00, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Discussion, continued

It's been over a month. Is any staff member (or the Editorial Board) going to make an executive decision on these, or will they just sit around with the "suggested move" templates forever? It doesn't sound like we can come to a full consensus by discussion alone, if the above section is anything to judge by. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 18:15, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

I'd just like to add that images on this page prove that "OS" are official initials for Original Series, given that there is AG for the Advanced Generation and BW for Best Wishes. I stand by my suggestion: "Mewtwo (OS)" for the Original Series Mewtwo and "Mewtwo (BW)" for the Best Wishes Mewtwo. Now, make a decision. --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 22:28, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
I agree. Let's get this done. --The Great Butler (talk) 20:35, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
"Mewtwo (OS)" is a good title. Short, simple, gets the job done. The fun part comes with correcting the redirects. The sooner the page is moved, the sooner I'll go and happily correct those redirects. Trak Nar (talk) 07:48, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Bit late to this discussion, though I suppose Mewtwo (OS)/Mewtwo (Original series) and Mewtwo (BW)/Mewtwo (Best Wishes) would work best IMO, since they both appeared outside of their featured movies, and have been in different locations outside of said movies. But yeah, these should be moved ASAP, we do need to fix all those redirects laying around.
Also, about Mewtwo (anime), why not make it a disambiguation page, since both Mewtwo are anime-exclusive? GamerGeek 15:54, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Since this appears to be settled, can we get this page moved to "Mewtwo (original series)" now, please? --The Great Butler (talk) 03:25, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

I think "Mewtwo (original series)" and "Mewtwo (Best Wishes)" are better than "Mewtwo (OS)" and "Mewtwo (BW)"; there's no need to abbreviate them and make it less clear. --SnorlaxMonster 03:29, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
So, no abbreviations. "Mewtwo (original series)" and "Mewtwo (Best Wishes)." The matter appears to be settled. The sooner the page is moved, the sooner I can tackle redirects. Trak Nar (talk) 09:19, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
All right, I concede to administrative ruling and that it does eliminate any confusion. Now, move it (the article) or lose it! --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 05:05, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
But why should one include series in the title and the other one not? MaverickNate 05:09, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Because the only people who care already know that Best Wishes is a series of the anime, and that's a mouthful of a title. Everyone else can just read the very first sentence of the article, which should go something like "Mewtwo is a Psychic-type legendary Pokémon from the Best Wishes series of the anime." Speaking of which, may I add that distinction to Mewtwo (Best Wishes series)? That page needs other work too.… It has a "Caught at" section in its infobox. --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 05:33, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the discussion here, but it's always written "Best Wishes series" on other parts of the 'pedia. Plus, it matches up with the two pages ("original series"/"Best Wishes" series) and I don't think any article has ever had an opening line like that. I've definitely never seen it in all the time I've been editing here. So I think the titles should specify which series and leave it at that. --The Great Butler (talk) 06:12, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm fine with that at this point. P.S., I still think it's funny that we can't use (Kanto) and (Unova) just because Kanto Mewtwo and its clone creations went to Johto once. --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 06:58, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
I think "(Best Wishes series)" is better too (and the page is already there anyway). --SnorlaxMonster 07:47, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Since the other one is titled Mewtwo (Best Wishes series), I believe that this should be moved to Mewtwo (original series) for consistency (as well as general consensus). It's been six months now, and the sooner we move this, the sooner we can fix all those links and redirects. GamerGeek 13:47, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

I would like to point out that this page is move protected which means that only staff members could move it. PattyMan 01:42, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Mewtwo's attacks, as mentioned in BoM

In Birth of Mewtwo, Mewtwo uses such attacks as Hyper Beam and Swift, and used Recover twice. Hyper Beam was used once, while Swift was used twice. Bind was also mentioned, but more in the context of "Binding powers" and "Bind them," so I am not entirely sure if those would be included. The other aforementioned three moves, however, shouldn't they be included in his moveset? I'd like to see another opinion before I add them. Thank you. Trak Nar (talk) 07:03, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

The Birth of Mewtwo should be treated as part of the anime canon, so I don't see a problem with listing moves it only used in the radio drama. --SnorlaxMonster 08:09, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. The moves have been added, with a note in the edit summary for someone to double-check to ensure that they have been implemented properly. I ordered the moves by roughly when they appeared, and alphabetically. Trak Nar (talk) 08:52, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

ABILITY?!!

Who put pressure in the info box! I get that's Mewtwo's ability in the game but abilities weren't introduced until gen 3 (sorry if it sounded like I used Outrage but I wanted to have fun). Mariofan99 (talk) 15:27, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

I added it when we still thought that the Mewtwo from M16 would be this one. The Ability was from the official movie site.--Den Zen 15:33, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

There are TWO Mewtwos....I'm confused

Guys, I haven't watched the 16th movie yet, however, in your description it says that the Mewtwo that appears is not the same one from the first movie & Mewtwo Returns...so why there are two mewtwos? I'm really confudd?? Isn't supposed to exist like only ONE Mewtwo?? Please, guys, I need an explanation! --MsIsamisa (talk) 00:34, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

There's nothing confusing about it. Some group of scientists happened to make a second Mewtwo. That's it. Ataro (talk) 00:49, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
Yep. They really made this Mewtwo's creation a subtle affair. We don't know who's behind it or why—we barely have silhouettes of the scientists—but Unova's Mewtwo was treated even worse than Team Rocket's. Its personality is also notably different. How is this possible? Artistic liberty. The directors and writers wanted a new Mewtwo, so they made one up. It doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons, but neither does much else in the film. --IWannaBeTheVeryBest 10:54, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Oblivion Wing

In the recent Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, we see Ylveltal's Oblivion Wing, which had the same effect to whatever it hit as to the blast Mew and Mewtwo did that accidentally hit Ash. Should this fact be noted on Mew and Mewtwo's page or no? Pikatwig (talk) 02:19, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
