The Pokémon first reached the Republic of South Africa with the airing of Pokémon - I Choose You! on SABC 2 around 2000.
Pokémon video games
Most English-language Pokémon games have been released in South Africa. New games are released on the same day as in Europe, which is usually several months after their respective releases in the United States.
Pokémon GO was released in South Africa on October 5, 2016, three months after its release in the United States.
Pokémon anime
The English dub of the Pokémon anime has been shown on SABC 2, SABC 3, e.tv, M-Net, Disney XD, and Nicktoons in South Africa.
Episodes from the Advanced Generation, Diamond & Pearl, and Best Wishes series have aired on eToonz+, a sister channel of e.tv.
e.tv began airing episodes from the XY series on August 4, 2015 every Tuesday at 3:30 PM. Pokémon the Series: XY Kalos Quest aired on Disney XD on weekdays from April 25 to May 23, 2016. The 19th season, Pokémon the Series: XYZ, began airing on e.tv on July 5, 2016.

Community
