Jessie's Dustox (Japanese: ムサシのドクケイル Musashi's Dokucale) was the second Pokémon caught by Jessie of Team Rocket during her travels through Hoenn, and her sixth overall.
History
Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire
Hoenn
Jessie caught a Wurmple in All in a Day's Wurmple, as did May. The chance encounter occurred on a tree branch after Team Rocket was blasted off yet again; Jessie noticed Wurmple nearby and simply threw a Poké Ball at her.
Jessie quickly grew infatuated by her Wurmple, often spoiling it with her attention and referring to by cutesy nicknames. This was seen in Gonna Rule The School!, where Jessie decided against using Wurmple in battle because she might get hurt.
In Which Wurmple's Which?, Jessie argued with May over which one of them had the better Wurmple. After Max concluded that the two Wurmple are exactly the same, they began battling, but Team Rocket was sent blasting off by Pikachu. May soon realized that she has Jessie's Wurmple due to her low appetite, and that Jessie must have hers. Eventually, Wurmple was handed back to May in exchange for Jessie's Wurmple.
In A Corphish Out of Water, Jessie's Wurmple evolved into a Cascoon while May's evolved into a Silcoon; Jessie believed hers was a Silcoon as well. Later, in Seeing is Believing!, Cascoon evolved into a Dustox, and soon after May's Silcoon evolved into Beautifly. Though Jessie was initially disappointed that she did not have a Beautifly, she came to adore her new Dustox almost immediately. In the Japanese version, she called her Dokucale-chan on more than one occasion. In the English dub, Jessie often called her Dustox-Dear, and when she would throw her Poké Ball, she has also referred to her as "my dear Dustox".
Dustox was Jessie's primary Contest Pokémon in Hoenn. She was used in the Fallarbor Contest in Come What May, where she earned the best score in the Appeals Round by using a rainbow device attached to a bow tie. In the second round, she went up against May's Beautifly. Dustox started strong by returning Beautifly's String Shot back at it with Whirlwind, but the advantage was quickly lost as Beautifly hit Dustox with a variety of attacks. The damage ended up destroying the rainbow device, which resulted in Jessie and Dustox being disqualified. They are then blasted off by Ash's Pikachu.
In Disguise Da Limit, Dustox participated in the Verdanturf Contest. Dustox earned a high score in the Appeals Round by combining her moves. In the second round, Dustox went up against Timmy's Dusclops. The two traded multiple attacks, which eventually caused an explosion. This exposed Jessie's disguise, and, with the round out of time, Timmy was declared the winner.
Jessie attempted to enter Dustox in the Rubello Town Contest in A Fan with a Plan, but Jessie did not have a previously obtained Ribbon needed for entry.
In That's Just Swellow, James used Dustox as his Pokémon in the Crossgate PokéRinger competition. Dustox defeated May's Beautifly, but she was then defeated at the last minute when Ash's Taillow evolved into a Swellow.
Kanto Battle Frontier
In Caterpie's Big Dilemma, Dustox grew giant due to consuming Dr. Gordon's "Mystery Candy Complete". Due to her new size, Team Rocket was able to escape on top of her with a kidnapped Dr. Gordon. They were chased by Zander's gigantified Butterfree, who, along with Ash's Pikachu, were able to damage Dustox enough to cause her to shrink back to her normal size.
Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl
In Settling a Not-So-Old Score!, Dustox was used in the Battle Stage of the Floaroma Contest. Her first battle in the event was against Dawn's Piplup, during which she attacked with Poison Sting. Piplup used Bide to return double the damage, which, along with a Peck, was enough to knock the Poison Moth Pokémon out.
In A Stand-Up Sit-Down!, Jessilina decided to face off against Dawn in order to practice for the Hearthome Contest. However, it was Zoey who accepted the challenge. Jessie used the combination of Dustox and Seviper and her idea was to make Dustox use Poison Sting and then to make Seviper use Poison Tail on Dustox's Poison Sting, making it spin and adding extra-power to it; Brock even said that that was a smart combination. However, that didn't work as Zoey's Glameow countered with Iron Tail, making the combination go to the other side. Zoey's Shellos then used Mud Bomb, breaking the combination of Poison Sting and Poison Tail. Dustox and Seviper were then both easily defeated by Zoey's Glameow.
In Dawn's Early Night!, Dustox was used along with Seviper in the Battle Stage of the Hearthome City Pokémon Contest. They were briefly seen battling against Nando's Kricketune and Roselia in the semifinals. The battle ended after Roselia and Kricketune used Petal Dance and X-Scissor, respectively, to deplete their points.
In Nosing 'Round the Mountain!, Dustox battled Ash and his friends. Using her Whirlwind, she knocked Ash away from a remote used to control Alan's Probopass. This unfortunately caused the remote to fall onto Probopass and explode. The Compass Pokémon then used Zap Cannon to blast Team Rocket off.
In Team Shocker!, Dustox was used in the Solaceon Town Pokémon Contest. During the Performance Stage, she used Whirlwind to lift Jessie off the ground, leaving the crowd astounded. She kept Jessie floating for a while and then used Psybeam to create a thick green smoke which covered the entire stage. When the smoke was cleared, it revealed Jessie and Dustox smiling and posing before the audience. The performance was well-received by the panel of judges and, when the results were announced, Jessie appeared among the Coordinators advancing to the Battle Stage. There, Dustox was able to defeat her first two opponents to reach the finals, where she went up against Kenny's Prinplup. She managed to use Prinplup's techniques against it to win the battle, earning Jessie her first Contest Ribbon. Ever since, Dustox has been wearing Jessie's hair-ribbons that she wore in that Contest.
In The Bells Are Singing!, Dustox battled Ash and his friends for the final time. She was sent out to battle Ash's Chimchar, and tried to use Tackle on the Chimp Pokemon. However, Chimchar quickly dodged, and hit Jessie and Meowth with its Flame Wheel, sending the duo blasting off, and Dustox flying after her trainer.
In Crossing Paths, during the Dustox Crossing, she fell in love with a Shiny Dustox owned by Austin. Jessie tearfully decided that Dustox had to go with the others, despite everyone's protests, but, since Dustox was loyal, she didn't want to. Seeing that Dustox was facing the same dilemma Jessie once was-about to throw away her chance of finding her true love to be with friends-Jessie had to shatter Dustox's Poké Ball to let her go. Dustox then went to live with other Dustox and start a family, giving Jessie the hope of finding her own soulmate.
In Our Cup Runneth Over!, Jessie said she would dedicate her performance in the Wallace Cup to Dustox. In Jumping Rocket Ship!, she appeared in Meowth's flashback.
Pokémon Journeys: The Series
Dustox appeared in a fantasy in Rocket Revengers! when Team Rocket reminisced about their old Pokémon.
Personality and characteristics
As a Wurmple, she was very sedate and well-behaved, unlike May's Wurmple, who was gluttonous and a bit disobedient. When she evolved, she stayed well-behaved and was very loyal to Jessie. Dustox served as Jessie's secondary battling Pokémon, and her primary Contest Pokémon. They had a very strong connection with each other, which was mostly evident upon Dustox's release in Crossing Paths, when Dustox wouldn't go with her mate and refused to leave Jessie's side.
She served as Jessie's main battling Contest Pokémon throughout Hoenn. Although talented, most of her contest attempts ended with her losing or being disqualified, and it took until her final Contest to earn a Ribbon. She is not above cheating to win, shown in Come What May, where she used a device to give her moves a rainbow effect.

Description: Dustox uses Poison Sting towards the sky. When the purple darts start falling down, Seviper hits them with Poison Tail, making them spin very fast. The spinning darts head towards the opposing Pokémon at great speed with the extra power that the Poison Tail added. The combination was used during a Double Battle against Zoey's Glameow and Shellos. |
