Trivia
- The colors used in Smoochum's Generation II Template:Shiny2 sprite are the colors used in the normal-colored sprites afterwards, similar to Elekid , and Aipom , though Aipom's colors lightened a bit.
- Smoochum's official artwork shows it having a purple head and lower chest, however the anime and its game sprites show them as being pink.
- Smoochum and its evolution, Jynx, are the only Pokémon that can learn Avalanche by leveling up.
Origin
Smoochum may be based on ガン黒 ganguro, blonde-haired, tanned Japanese girls, but is meant to resemble an otherwise normal human child. It should be also noted that Yuki Onna, a possible origin for Jynx, is sometimes shown as holding a seemingly human child.
Name origin
Smoochum's name is based on smooch, or kiss. It may also be a pun on smooch 'em. Its Japanese name is based on 夢中 muchū, daze or trance, and ちゅう chu, the sound of a kiss. Its German name, Kussilla, comes from Kuss. Its French name, Lippouti, is a combination of the English word lip and poutou. Its Korean name, 뽀뽀라 Ppoppora includes Ppoppo, which is a small peck or kiss.
