Trivia
- Despite its name being Gabite, it cannot learn Bite or Crunch. However, Garchomp (its evolution) can learn Crunch.
- Gabite's scales have been said to be a cure for sickness as stated in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 special.
Origin
Appearance-wise, Gabite seems like a cross between a European dragon and a shark, it may be based on a Land Shark.
Name origin
Gabite's name is possibly derived from がぶがぶ gabugabu, which means to gobble or gulp down, and the English word bite. It may also be derived from がぶりと gaburito, bite or chew, or がぶりと噛み付く gaburitokamitsuku, sink one's teeth into.
Its German name, Knarksel, comes from knackig and shark. Its French name, Carmache, comes from Carcharodon, scientific name of sharks, and mâcher.
