Phanpy (Japanese: ゴマゾウ Gomazou) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves into Donphan at level 25.

Biology

Physiology

Phanpy are blue elephant Pokémon that are quite small in stature. Unlike its evolved form, it has a cute appearence. It has two orange pads on each of its big ears and another on the bridge of its nose, which is also quite long.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Despite its small size, Phanpy is quite strong, and can easily carry an adult human on its back. It also has the ability to rollout just like its fully evolved form, Donphan. Its trunk is also quite sensitive.

Behavior

It is a timid Pokémon that flees very easily. However, it has a very affectionate side and can be very friendly, even if it doesn't know its own strength. They also like to play around in water, despite being a ground type.

Habitat

While it is normally found in rocky regions and terrain, it also likes lakes and watersides.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

It probably loves fruit.

In the anime

Ash's Phanpy using Take Down

Phanpy first appeared in Spell of the Unown, however, it was just a Pokémon that Molly Hale dreamed up and made real by the power of the Unown.

The first time a real Phanpy made an appearance was in Hatching a Plan. The Long Nose Pokémon hatched from an egg that Ash Ketchum received in Extreme Pokémon. Phanpy was the baby of Ash's team, but its power made up for lack of experience. Ash left Phanpy and the rest of his Pokémon (save for Pikachu) at Professor Oak's lab when he set out for the Hoenn region. Ash's Phanpy made a return to his team and evolved into Donphan in Reversing the Charges.

In the manga

Emerald uses a Phanpy in the Battle Pyramid for its ability to pick up items.

Trivia

  • In Generation II, it could learn Water Gun through breeding, probably a reference to it's appearance as an elephant calf. However, in later games, it can't learn Water Gun through breeding.

Origin

This Pokémon is based on an elephant calf.

Name origin

Phanpy's name is derived from the word elephant. Gomazou is probably a combination of 当歳駒 tōsaigoma, yearling, and 象 , elephant.
