Trivia
- Horsea and its evolutions share the same species name with Dratini and its evolutions and Salamence. They are all known as Dragon Pokémon.
- Although Horsea is not a Dragon-type, it is a Dragon species Pokémon. It shares this trait with it's evolved form Seadra.
- In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Horsea claims that its Water Gun always hits. However, if its Accuracy is lowered, its Water Gun will eventually miss. This also counts for when Horsea is confused.
Origin
It is, obviously, based on a seahorse, though its ability to shoot ink resembles that of a squid.
Name origin
Horsea's name is based on seahorse and the diminutive word horsie. Its Japanese name is a misspelling of 竜 tatsu, dragon, which is part of the common name of a seahorse in Japanese, 竜の落し子 tatsu-no-otoshigo, lit. illegitimate child of a dragon.
In other languages
- German: Seeper - from Seepferd, meaning sea horse.
- French: Hypotrempe - A play on the word hippocampe, which means seahorse. Trempé means soaked.
- Korean: 쏘드라 Ssodeura
