Whitney (Japanese: アカネ Akane) is the Gym Leader of Goldenrod City's Gym, known officially as the Goldenrod Gym. She hands out the Plain Badge to trainers who defeat her. She is a young girl who uses Template:Type2 Pokémon.
In the anime
Whitney appeared in the episodes A Goldenrod Opportunity and A Dairy Tale Ending.
Whitney is a sweet but ditzy young lady. She easily gets lost in her own home town.
Ash challenged her to a Gym match, but was unable to stop her Miltank, who constantly used Rollout to deflect attacks.
After his defeat, Whitney invited Ash to her Uncle Milton's dairy farm, where many Miltank were raised to produce milk for consumption.
Ash, Brock, and Misty spent the day taking care of the dairy's many Miltank.
After Ash stopped a barrel-shaped robot piloted by Team Rocket, he came up with a strategy to defeat Miltank. He used Totodile and Cyndaquil to slow it down, then had Pikachu knock it out. With that, Ash won the Plain Badge.
Whitney's Japanese voice actress is 宮村優子 Yuko Miyamura, her English voice actress is Megan Hollingshead and her Brazilian Portuguese voice actress is Fernanda Bulara.

In the games
Whitney's title is "The Incredibly Pretty Girl!".
Although she only began battling a little while ago, Whitney's talent attracted the Pokémon League to choose her as a Gym Leader. Her gym is filled with other young girls like herself, who use cute Normal-type Pokémon like Meowth. Her gym is shaped like a Clefairy.
Whitney doesn't like trainers who are too serious in battle. When Whitney's defeated, she throws a temper tantrum and cries, but after drying her eyes and blowing her nose she will get over her loss and give the player the badge.
After winning the Plain Badge, Whitney gives out TM45 (Attract). Whitney says that Attract is perfect for a cutie like her, because it makes full use of a Pokémon's cuteness.
