Wynaut (Japanese: ソーナノ Sohnano) is a Template:Type2 baby Pokémon.
It evolves into Wobbuffet starting at level 15.
Biology
Physiology
Wynaut is a small, cyan-colored Pokémon with an balloon-shaped body. Wynaut has a black tail with an eye-spot on it that looks similar to the design of Unown. It has a pair of flipper-like appendages on the sides of its head. There is a round, bulbous growth on Wynaut's forehead.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Wynaut's main means of self-defense is to repel attacks at its foes. However, Wynaut doesn't excel at this as much as its evolved form, Wobbuffet.
Behavior
Wynaut always has a smile on its face. As such, it will use its tail to communicate its feelings. A Wynaut that's slapping the ground with its tail means that it's upset. During moonlit nights, Wynaut gather into groups and squeeze against each other. This activity is used for strengthening up the Wynauts' endurance.
Habitat
Wynaut is only found on Mirage Island, where it is the sole species. It is unknown why Wynaut only appear there. Mirage Island is also the only place the Liechi Berry is found naturally. This leads to the theory that they need to feed on the Liechi Berry to survive in the wild.
Diet

In the anime
Wynaut first appeared in Camp Pikachu. This Bright Pokémon helped Pikachu and co. help the Pichu Brothers get to the next train to Big Town.
Wynaut also appeared during the Blackthorn City arc (Beauty is Skin Deep - Why? Wynaut!), But Jessie's Wobbuffet, Ash's Bayleef and Ash's Noctowl were the only ones to see it.
In Who, What, When, Where, Wynaut?, a plan of Team Rocket's backfires and sends everyone to Mirage Island. The only inhabitants of this island are none other than Wynaut, though it wasn't seen by any of the human characters other than May and Drew.

Trivia
- In Generation III, Wynaut is the only baby Pokémon found in the wild in the games, on Mirage Island. Oddly, in Generation IV, Wynaut is one of the few baby Pokémon that can't be found in the wild (the only other baby Pokémon that can't be found in the wild is Riolu).
Origin
Name origin
Wynaut's name is pronounced identically to the phrase "why not?" Its Japanese name is almost homophonous with the phrase そうなの sō na no, which means "really?", with only a difference in tone.
Its name, when paired with the Japanese name of its evolution, Wobbuffet, ソーナンス Sonans, makes for a potential perpetual conversation of "really?" followed by "that's the way it is," and so on, as seen in Camp Pikachu.
In other languages
- German: Isso - A possible corruption of Is so.
- French: Okeoke - A repetition of Okay.
- Korean: 마자 Maja* / 그래용 Geuraeyong*
