Latios (Japanese: ラティオス Latios) is a dual-type Dragon/Psychic legendary Pokémon.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Latios has mostly the same body shape as Latias, but with a larger build. His lower body is blue instead of red and features the same triangle-shaped marking that Latias has, only red. The rest of Latios's body is gray instead of white. Latios has flatter ears and narrower eyes than Latias. The gray spot in the middle of Latios's blue face is shaped like a tear-drop.
Gender differences
Latios is a male-only species. For his female counterpart, see Latias.
Special abilities
Latios comes with the ability Levitate, which causes Template:Type2 moves to miss. Latios is able to fold in his arms and fly at the speed of a jet. He can make foes see images he has seen or what he imagines in his head. He can understand human speech. Even if he is hiding, Latios can detect the locations and emotions of others using telepathy.
In the movie Pokémon Heroes Latias and Latios also had the ability "Sight Sharing" which allowed Latias and people around her to see exactly what Latios is seeing.
Latios is the only known Pokémon that learns Luster Purge.
Behavior
Latios has a docile temperament and dislikes fighting. He will open his heart if he finds a trainer with a compassionate spirit.
Habitat
Much like Latias, it is mostly unknown where they inhabit, however, they tend to prefer areas that are secluded and have a body of fresh water.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
In the anime
Latios has only appeared in Pokémon Heroes. Annie and Oakley captured Latios and used him to power the DMA along with the stolen Soul Dew. Latios ended up sacrificing himself to save Alto Mare from an enormous tidal wave.
In the manga
Latios, along with Latias, was befriended by Emerald, and took the young Trainer to the Battle Frontier. He later helped Todd watch the events going on on top of the Battle Pyramid.

Game data
NPC appearances
- Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: If the ball drops out of the Ruby Field while the "Ball Saver" is active, Latios will rescue it and place it on Spoink without the ball being lost.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Latios appears alongside Latias as a two-in-one Poké Ball. Once Latios is summoned, he will fly off the stage with Latias and they will alternately zoom onto the stage with Steel Wing, damaging any opponent that collides with them. It may also cause movement of items as well.

In Pokémon Emerald, the roaming Pokémon is chosen in a sequence immediately after the credits where, after hearing a television report, the player is asked the color of the Pokémon in it. If blue is selected Latios roams Hoenn and Latias is found at the island. If red is selected, Latios is found at the island and Latias roams Hoenn.

Trivia
- Latios and Latias are the first legendary Pokémon to have genders.
- Despite this, they belong to the No eggs Egg Group which means that they cannot breed.
- Latios is one of the few non-Flying type who can learn Fly. The others are Mew, Smeargle, Vibrava, Flygon, Latias, Giratina, and Arceus.
- Before Generation IV, Latios either resisted or was weak to every type classified as special, taking no neutral hits from any. It shares this trait with Latias.
- Latios shares the same species name with his female counterpart Latias. They are both known as Eon Pokémon.
- Latios is the only male-only legendary Pokémon.
Origin
Latios appears to be a cross between a jet plane and a dragon, although it and Latias may also draw inspiration from the philosophy of Yin/Yang and psychology of id/superego.
Name origin
It is possible that Latios's name is based on the Latin word lateo, hidden. The -os suffix in its name indicates that it is male, while the -as in Latias indicates that it is female.
