Shiftry (Japanese: ダーテング Dirteng) is a dual-type Grass/Dark Pokémon.
It evolves from Nuzleaf via Template:Stone. It is the final form of Seedot.
Biology
Physiology
Shiftry is a large brown Pokémon with menacing features. It has long shaggy white hair which covers most of its face. It has long ears, a very long pointed nose and teeth that are usually gritted. Its hands are broad leaves which it can use to create powerful winds. Its feet are unusual in that they resemble Japanese Geta, but have only a single central "tooth," the part Shiftry walks on. Its eyes are yellow.
Gender differences
A female's leaves are smaller than a male's.
Special abilities
Shiftry can create powerful winds with their fan-shaped hands. They are also capable of reading their foe's mind.
Behavior
Shiftry are very, very cruel creatures that enjoy nothing but deliberately injuring passers-by for no reason whatsoever. They are not loyal to their trainers; they may even attack them if a battle is lost.
Habitat
Shiftry are said to live in deep forests, specifically in very large and very old trees.

Trivia
- Despite what is written in its Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Pokédex entry, Shiftry cannot learn Mind Reader.
- According to its Pokédex entries, the winds it can generate can reach speeds of 100 ft/s (68 mph) which is about equivalent to a Category 1 Hurricane, not nearly strong enough to destroy a house.
Origin
Shiftry are probably based on Tengu, who are known for their long noses, cruel tricks, and ability to read minds.
Name origin
Shiftry's name is probably a combination of the words shifty (meaning deceitful), and tree. Its Japanese name is probably a combination of dark and 天狗 tengu, tricky Japanese goblins.
In other languages
- German: Tengulist - Includes tengu.
- French: Tengalice - From tengu and malice.
- Korean: 다탱구 Dartenggu
