Luxray (Japanese: レントラー Rentorar) is an Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Luxio starting at level 30. It is the final form of Shinx.
Biology
Physiology
Its appearance is based on that of a fully-grown lion. It has three rings on the backs of its legs, similar to Luxio (which has two) and Shinx (which has one) and has red eyes.
Gender differences
The female has a shorter mane than the male.
Special abilities
Luxray have extraordinary eyesight. It is so powerful that they can see through most objects, like x-ray vision.
Behavior
Luxray are extremely vicious and predatorial, although when tamed and trained correctly they can become very loyal and faithful, protecting their trainer from danger. Abusing a Luxray can cause it to become antagonistic and vengeful towards their trainer. Luxray need a lot of compassion and praise to maintain their satisfaction, as they are proud creatures.

In the wild, Shinx, Luxio, and Luxray generally hunt for food. Evidence of this is plainly given in Luxray's Pokédex entry: "It spots and captures prey hiding behind objects."
In the anime
A Luxray made an appearance in The Rise of Darkrai. During Alice's flashback, Alicia was running up a hill to the garden. She saw Luxray fire a Hyper Beam upon Darkrai, but Darkrai retaliated with a Dark Void, trapping Luxray into a nightmare.
Marble owns a Luxray, appearing in Luxray Vision!.
A Luxray is used by one of the students of Pokémon Summer Academy in the first leg of the Pokémon Triathlon in One Team, Two Team, Red Team, Blue Team!.
In the manga
In Pokémon Special, Mars used her Luxray to steal energy from Valley Windworks. In the graphic novel releases, however, Electivire assumes this role.
Later, when the trio are traveling through Mt. Coronet, a Luxray evolved from a Luxio they had helped earlier in their journey saved Pearl and Platinum after they were trapped by a rock slide. This same Luxray later appeared to Pearl as he was traveling to Lake Valor.

Origin
Luxray is based on an adult male lion.
Name origin
Luxray is derived from lux, a measure of brightness, and x-ray, referring to its x-ray eyes. Its Japanese name is a combination of Roentgen, the physicist who discovered X-rays, and 虎 tora, tiger.
