Trivia

  • Although Hippowdon's species is the Heavyweight Pokémon, it is only the the 16th heaviest Pokémon currently known.
  • In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2, both Hippowdon and Hippopotas have the same recruit rate, something rarely found with Pokémon of the same evolutionary line.

Origin

Hippowdon is based on a hippopotamus.

Name origin

Hippowdon's name is derived from hippopotamus, power or powder (as in sand), and the suffix -don which can be taken to mean "tooth" or "lord". Kabarudon's name is derived from the Japanese word 河馬 kaba, hippopotamus, which it is based on, and the aforementioned -don.
