(Japanese: ポッチャマ Pochama) is a Water-type Pokémon. Along with Naetle and Hikozaru, it is one of the three starter Pokémon the player receives at the beginning of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
Pochama comes with the ability Torrent, which increases the power of Water-type attacks by 50% once the Pokémon has less than one-third of its maximum HP.
Pochama evolves into Pottaishi at Level 16 and into Emperte at Level 36.

Special abilities
Pochama mainly know how to use Water attacks such as Bubble and Water Gun, but they can also know pecking attacks.
Behavior
Pochama have a large sense of self-pride. Because of this, a Pochama has a hard time accepting food from humans.
Habitat
Pochama live along the sea shore in colder climates. However, Pochama are quite rare and they're usually given out by Professor Nanakamado to new Pokémon trainers in the Sinnoh Region.
Diet

In the anime
Hikari has a Pochama as her first Pokémon. In Begin! From Futaba Town to Masago Town!!, Pochama begins a battle between it, Hikozaru and Naetle. Hikari gathers the three and takes Pochama as starter Pokémon.

Pochama is based on a baby penguin.
Name origin
Pochama may be derived from 坊っちゃま botchama, meaning child, with the P perhaps coming from penguin. It may also be based on ぽちゃぽちゃ pochapocha, which means either splashing in water or having a plump appearance.
