Trivia
Origin
Whimsicott appears to be based on a fully bloomed ball of cotton. It also may draw some origin from the Vegetable Lamb of Tartary, which was a type of sheep-growing plant that was used to explain the production of cotton in the middle ages. It may also have been based on the Brazilian folklore creature known as the Saci; both are brown creatures that live in forests, ride on winds, and play pranks.
Name origin
Whimsicott's name may derive from whimsical and cotton. Elfuun may come from elf, ふわふわ fuwa fuwa, meaning soft, fluffy, and light, or possibly from furo-to, float. Alternatively, it may be a portmanteau of the words エルフ elf and typhoon.
