The Pokémon franchise first reached Ukraine with the first broadcast of Покемон, я обираю тебе! in 2000. In Cyrillic script, Pokémon is written as Покемон and its plural is Покемони Pokemony and is fully inflected.
Pokémon video games
The Pokémon video games are released in Ukraine in English. From 2014 it was possible to purchase games digitally through Yandex.Money, which is the official distributor of Nintendo, but then Yandex was banned in Ukraine.[1] Information about physical distribution are little known.
Pokémon anime
The first four seasons of the Pokémon anime aired on television on the Ukrainian TV channel NTN beginning in 2000. This intros were left in English, though were shown with Ukrainian subtitles and were dubbed as a voice-over.
Disney Channel Ukraine aired Pokémon DP: Galactic Battles in 2010. The English dub was initially shown before switching to the Russian dub. Nothing else is currently known.
Pokémon movies
The fourth movie was released under the title Покемон назавжди: Селебі - Голос лісу.
A Ukrainian dubbed version of Detective Pikachu was also shown in cinemas on May 9, 2019.
Cast and crew
Pilot Studio is responsible for producing the anime in Kiev, Ukraine.
Ash Ketchum was voiced by Anna Leshchenko (Анна Лещенко). Tetyana Zinovenko (Тетяна Зіновенко) dubbed both Misty and Jessie. Anatoliy Zinovenko (Анатолій Зіновенко) was the voice actor for James, Professor Oak, Giovanni, and the narrator. Dmytro Zavadsʹkyy (Дмитро Завадський) dubbed Gary Oak, Meowth, Brock, and Tracey.
These actors also dubbed the first few seasons into Russian.
