Uh, what's up with the images? I wanna see the covers NOW!!! Sidnoea 04:15, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Request denied. We've just moved over to a new setup so there's a glitch in the thumbnails. No game boxart has yet been released, all we have is the logo. TTEchidna 04:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Couldn't we simply use the HeartGold and SoulSilver logos that are currently on the Japanese Nintendo website? It's the official visual representation of the new games currently, so my opinion is that they are best used until other official images are revealed.
- They're not showing up due to a glitch, as TTEchidna already stated. Frugali 06:20, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Players
Why does it say "2 players simultaneous"? The others say "1-4 players simultaneous", is it a mistake or did Nintendo just changed the whole idea behind the gameplay?Mr. Charlie 09:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm guessing that's coz nothing's confirmed, but its fairly obvious that the two-player connection will remain. While it's quite likely the likes of the Union Room will let more than two players connect at once, I'll let TTE make that call. — THE TROM — 09:23, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Unless we hear from Nintendo that this game is only possible to play with two people I really think it should at least read "1-2 players simultaneous." Multiplayer-only games exist, but it would be extremely unprecedented if this was one of them--Barakku 17:12, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Gen V
Shouldn't this game be a Generation V game? AlienX2008 11:06, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see why, as long as it's fully compatible with DPP. We'll find out more later, I guess. --((Marton imos)) 11:07, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Generation V would introduce new Pokémon. As this is a remake, we're leaning towards Gen IV. — THE TROM — 11:09, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- But didn't the originals open Gen II? This could just be the front cover of the Gen V book. They can program in new Pokémon and not use them if they like. Gywall Talk 11:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- But FireRed and LeafGreen did not start Generation III.--Purimpopoie 11:13, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- You're missing the point, as Gen II introduced the Time Capsule which blocked current generation data entering the previous generation. Gywall Talk 11:22, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- No Gywall, once again, it is you who is missing the point. Just as FireRed LeafGreen were the same generation, so will be HeartGold and MoonSilver.Max King 17:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- They're Gen IV games. Dammit, everyone quit wishing for Gen V or the end of Pokémon already. TTEchidna 14:42, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hah, Gywall got told. Isn't it obvious they are Gen 4? I really cant understand how people think they could be Gen 5? What has changed between them and Platinum? Nothing is what. Max King 17:10, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm going to make one point here really clear right now. While I have absolutely no authority to do this, if you are wishing for the end of Pokémon, I see no reason why you should be here, and I'm going to have to ask whoever is wishing for the end to leave. Generation V, however, you can wish for all you like, but its not likely to appear until at least 2010, possibly even 2011.--Thomas Michael William Patrick Sales 15:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I see even more proof that these are NOT going to be Gen V games (which you guys seem to have missed). What are the only times a new region has been introduced in the main series games? AT THE START OF A GENERATION. HG & SS are NOT introducing a new zone, they're returning to an old zone. Diachronos 17:16, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, and remember that new generations have come out when a new GameBoy or Nintendo portable console is introduced. Wish will likely happen in 2011, because of the usual two year gap. I also wanted them to be gen. V, but that would've messed up the two year gap.--AOS 04:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Don't forget that besides introducing a whole new region, each generation starts with new player characters!--I'm Pokelova(Talk) 10:38, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
They can't really be considered Generation V, since they don't introduce a new region, new Pokemon, and new player characters. Nintendo will have probably released the successor to the DS by the time Generation V starts. Besides, FireRed and LeafGreen were remakes of Red and Blue, but they were still considered Generation III because they were released on GBA and could communicate with Ruby and Sapphire. So, HeartGold and SoulSilver should still be considered Generation IV. Link 486 15:23, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Leave off Gywall. He/She is missing a few brain cells.Laxafett 17:05, 10 May 2009(UTC)
I definitely don't consider this Generation V because while Generation III released the re-releases between the first two games and the additional game which in that case is Emerald, for Generation IV it is the same concept except that the re-releases were released last, kind of like doing it backwards and personally the whole Generation V rumor is false. -Tyler53841 15:47, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Should we mix in the article about the Gold and Silver Remake rumor into this one. Its good to give an insight to what happened before the games release.--Clarky13 11:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

- Actually, you never really know. They might include some Crystal elements in the G/S remakes, the most obvious of which (aside from gender choice which has since become standard) would probably be the Battle Tower. --Shiningpikablu252 14:29, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Or another Battle Frontier, bringing the total to 3, reminding that 2 of them are in Gen IV. And the probability is that they include all the elements from Crystal in HG/SS, like they did include all the elements from Blue in FR/LG. Yellow doesn't count as it was the fourth Gen I game and it was a special version rather than a common version, even though it had improvements over Blue and introduced prototypes of game mechanics that would make their real final introduction in G/S. That's why they didn't remake it. Pokemon lover 17:57, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Erm... There wasn't much to include from Blue. And what elements from Blue do you see in FR/LG? --Maxim 18:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

- Well, with the exception of the cries (they're from R/G; Blue didn't change them), you're right, TTE. And as for Missingno. Master, of course they'll include much more from Crystal than that, IMO. =D Pokemon lover 14:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- I do hope they retain at least the Battle Tower, though i don't think a Battle Frontier will happen again as thats in Platinum already, which means if people want a Battle Frontier they will buy Platinum (so Nintendo can make more cash probably). They might do a Trainer Tower-esque thing like in FR/LG. I wonder if the Red Gyarados will be kept?User:494alex

Version-exclusives between Japanese and English versions
I'm surprised no one thought on this yet, even though it's all speculation right now. But do you think they'll do the same as in G/S? I mean, for some odd reason, Nintendo of America switched Teddiursa and Ursaring to Gold while Phanpy and Donphan were switched to Silver. In the Japanese versions, it's the opposite. Pokemon lover 20:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Most likely, they'll include the English Version-Exclusives as they did with the R/G ->R/B remakes. (FYI, They kept the version-exlusives as they were in Red and Blue, though this doesn't prove anything because of the Japanese R/G/B fiasco.) Dark Boye 00:07, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- FRLG's exclusives were messed with with regards to RG. RB had the same exclusives as RG, FRLG messed with it. The Psyduck and Slowpoke families weren't originally exclusives, while the Mankey and Meowth families were, nor were Shellder's and Staryu's families. For the most part they remain the same between I and III. I'd bet similarly on this. Plus, we used Red and Green in Gen III, so I'd bet they'll keep with the original exclusives, if both families aren't available in both games. Seeing as we've got new Pokémon to deal with, too, I'd bet Gligar and Aipom become somewhat exclusive. TTEchidna 08:08, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

ESRB - May 09 "Rating"
As the game isn't due for release yet and ESRB quite probably hasn't rated it yet. (Tell me where it says E for these games? The offical site doesn't.) Should we remove the Rating or put the word ASSUMED next to the rating? I know it's most likely to get the E Rating, but I don't think we should jump the gun. Big Nutter 02:57, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Noted. Thanks. — THE TROM — 03:01, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think it's really jumping the gun, since apparently they've been meting out E ratings by merit of being Pokémon (Platinum and PMD2 got pretty...heavy for E-rated games) but yes, it still shouldn't be there.—Loveはドコ? (talk • contribs) 03:02, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think game covers really warrant ESRB ratings spikes. Here's my 2¢ prediction: The translation goes a bit too far, and one of the new features teased might be expanded gambling, and as a result, HeartGold and SoulSilver get E10+.
- In any event, regardless of anyone's predictions, we probably shouldn't list any rating unless it's officially listed with one. And not just the ESRB--in the event an infobox might be appended to include other countries' rating systems (Japan's CERO, Europe's PEGI, etc.), we're best waiting for official ratings from those boards too. Just because Pokémon games have followed ratings trends doesn't mean they can't be broken--PEGI usually gives Pokémon games 3+ ratings, but Battle Revolution got slapped with a 7+. --Shiningpikablu252 04:21, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Dude, I totally forgot about the Game Corner. Are they using the same rationale the Japanese government uses for pachinko or something? If you don't redeem your chips in the same building as the casino, it's not gambling? :|—Loveはドコ? (talk • contribs) 04:45, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

- Well TTE, following your idea, then it wouldn't be a M-rated game but rather a T-rated game. Still, I don't think they'll ever give a Pokémon game a rating higher than E or E10+ (if that's ever going to happen =D). It's not like the games have porn or violent contents. JPN release date
Someone on NeoGAF reposted what is apparently a 2ch post revealing info from this month's CoroCoro on the game. Anyone with good Japanese translation skills able to confirm? (Also, a picture of the issue's cover.) Frugali 12:22, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Is it related to the game's release date? I didn't see something about HGSS. It says the release is on September 11, reservation is July 18, SRP is 4800 yen, NEPichu to appear in HG, and more info about the movie and event PCPichu.. not sure of this though. Kevzo8 12:57, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

CoroCoro Scans
Just wondering if/when the info in the new CC should be added to the article, from what I've seen, there is a new girl playable, the notched eared pichu/pikachu colored pichu are involved, and there's a skateboard involved in the game somehow. I'm aware the last 2 are iffy, but something tells me that the new girl would be something to mention. Myzou 14:52, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- I would think that showing the picture or mentioning the new girl would be more of a priority than the Pichu since it notes a significant change between Pokemon Crystal and these games. But I am not going to add this without more discussion.-Tyler53841 15:14, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'd say maybe wait to see if slightly better quality scans are created before adding more details. Although they may still be speculative for the time being. Although the fact that there is a new female character does throw a bit of a spanner in the works. First off, we don't know her name or anything else about her other than her look. TheChrisD Rants•Edits 15:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- PS - Gold = A really young version of the TF2 Scout?
- I would think the scans he posted below would be good enough to show that it is indeed a new playable female character. Myzou 15:58, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- It possibly is true. But, we have to what for some better screenshots. Don't add them just yet. Let TTE decide.--Clarky13 16:28, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

where in the magazine was the skateboard mentioned? UltamateCharizard 21:00, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Pokébeach have very recently posted an article with higher-resolution quality scans of CoroCoro. Apparently the Touch Screen how displays the in-game menu, although whether or not it is always there, or you have to press a button to activate it is still unknown. Also they've confirmed the presence of the location graphic that appears when you enter certain areas, á la FR/LG is back. TheChrisD Rants•Edits 11:59, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- You can still press X to access the menu, I assume if you don't want to use the touch screen, (according to the screencap.)I assume they have it setup this way because they might integrate the radio more into the game, so it lets you change stations more easily. Halogen 18:52, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Kris?
Can someone who can read Japanese tell me: Doe the magazine specifically say that it is a new girl? I think it may just be a major overhaul of Kris, but if it says so, then it must be an entirely new character.--Gou 22:50, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- The magazine identifies Gold and [Kris] as simply "Protagonist (Boy)" and "Protagonist (Girl)." That's all that's legible for now; let's wait until full scans arrive.—Loveはドコ? (talk • contribs) 00:11, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

- I highly doubt that's Kris, seeing as the two look VERY different. Either Kris will appear redesigned again in a possible Crystal remake, or we will never see her again. Perhaps all the "Marina" hints in the anime were just teasing us, but we never know, right? ...and for the record, I'm with ya, TTE. Fairy Red 12:31, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Starter following
I think it had been made known that your Starter Pokémon will follow you in the whole game. Did it?--Ruixiang95 09:17, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Remember, that video is just demonstration on what the game's gonna be like, it may be scrapped and become beta information.--ForceFire 09:19, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Starters may not be the only ones who can follow, it seems safe to assume that it is possible there are many Pokémon that can follow, I came to this conclusion from the Ilex forest image that has been released, it shows your Pikachu coloured pichu outside of its Poké ball, this could possibly indicate that other Pokémon may be able to follow the player. Basically I don't think we should assume that only the starters can follow (like it says in the article) until we have all the facts. —Mada-sama (Talk to me!)— 13:18, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah after seeing that special Pichu following the trainer I agree until more facts are available to that, if not for that I would have thought only the starters would follow the trainer. -Tyler53841 15:50, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Fourth pic
How do we know that it shows Kurt's house? Do the CoroCoro scans specifically state that? Pokéman 17:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Replacement?
The article says that the new girl replaces Kris. But seeing as HGSS are specifically Gold/Silver remakes, instead of a Crystal remake, wouldn't it make more sense to say this new girl is just new, not a replacement? Just like the FRLG heroine didn't replace anyone because no female choice existed in RGYB, the HGSS girl replaces no-one as well. Sure, Kris didn't actually appear as a choice in Gold and Silver, but most consider her to be as much Gold's female counterpart as May is to Brendan, Leaf is to Red, and Dawn is to Lucas. All Pokémon NOW Available
As an honorable mention for somewhere on the page, by now, with the addition of the expected Johto Pokémon in these remakes and the expected time capsule to work like the original GS, every Pokémon may be now caught in Gen IV main series gameplay as of these GS remakes... Now, I think that it would be an honorable mention... if it could be edited a bit and figured out where it would be put on the page... that is, if you decide whether it's really an honorable mention...--X, PEACE TOTHE DRAGONS ANDTHE BEASTS 03:04, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay
Now it's time for the division between "speculation" and "duh". Honestly, I know we pride ourselves on the veracity and such of our information, but honestly, truly, saying that the Johto Gym Leaders don't even have a 100% chance of reappearing is just stupid. Did Kanto get new Gym Leaders in FRLG? No! HGSS is a remake of GS. Silver appears outside Elm's lab. I'll give Kanto being in the games as speculation, because as much as I hope it is, we've not yet seen the eastern border of New Bark in new graphics, leaving room for doubt. Sure, maybe it was unprogrammed as of the demo, fine, but it does leave room for doubt. But seriously, saying that Johto's leaders aren't gonna be the same is like saying Silver's no longer the rival, just some kid standing outside Elm's lab, and that a new villainous team takes the place of Neo Team Rocket.
HGSS is a remake of Gold and Silver. If you're all so gung-ho about removing "speculation" that Falkner, Bugsy, Whitney, Morty, Chuck, Jasmine, Pryce, and Clair will be in HGSS, I don't know why you've not yet even said "oh just speculation that these are remakes, we won't know for sure until we've compared every plot detail to GS and made sure they're just as similar to them as FRLG are to RG," and label these as "new games set in a mysterious new region".
It's just as much speculation that there are screenshots of Slowpoke Well and Ilex Forest, too, that the Gym Leaders will change. You know, despite them looking like revamped versions of the GS areas, we can never be sure...
Echidna has spoken. All eight Johto Gym Leaders are part of Gen IV and HGSS as much as the eight Kanto ones are part of FRLG. If you wanna assume Kanto's in HGSS, too, go for it. I mean, honestly, these anti-speculation measures are far too ridiculous at this point if you're "playing it safe" like this. Hell, if BP were around when FRLG were announced as much as it is now, we'd have you guys screaming about how "it's not proven that the Seafoam Islands and Cerulean Cave will appear in FRLG"...
And that's my rant. TTEchidna 01:07, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. Kanto speculation is one thing, but these are friggin' GS remakes, there is no way in teh fiery pit that the Johto gym leaders aren't there. They'll be keeping all major elements of the region intact. I'll bet they're gonna include Kanto, too, I see no reason why they wouldn't. There's no proof that they're including it, true, but neither is there evidence to the contrary. Plus, what would they do about the Pokemon League? And by the way, that shot of Gold in front of some building that everyone is arguing about, I strongly believe it's the Burned Tower. Honestly, what's more likely to be raised up on a pedestal and look all badass and awesome and junk? An ancient tower with great historical significance that houses the legendary gerbils? Or the house of some old fart who makes Poké Balls? Plus, the roads are paved, which kinda says more of "Ecruteak City" than "Azalea Town" to me. Missingno. Master wants YOU! - Before anyone tells me to get over it, I'm not complaining about Kris not being included. I'm just questioning the logic in saying "These are GS remakes, so including anything that comes from Crystal would seem out of place". Spideym 18:16, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Generation II Pokémon Platinum sprites
I don't know if this is being discussed elseware, but I've noticed that in the trivia sections of certain Generation II Pokémon that received updated colours in their Platinum sprites it's not being mentioned that this happened to alot of other Pokémon.
Their colours are changed so that they match their original colours from Gold and Silver as a hint to the fact that the Gold and Silver remakes were going to be released in a few months time.
For example, in Porygon2's trivia section it mentions that Porygon's sprite colours didn't change in Platinum as if no connection had been made to the G/S remakes.
Surely other people have made this connection, or is it just not being mentioned? Ash zane 08:17, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Lugia and Ho-Oh
Ho-Oh and Lugia in the 3rd Generation games were only available from the event-exclusive Navel Rock. Before the release of HeartGold and SoulSilver, the only way to them in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, was through Pal Park. However, with the release of HG and SS, now you can get them by trading with HG/SS.

Supposedly, there's a pedometer that will come with the game, and you can upload a Pokémon to it. Then, you can walk around, and the Pokémon will supposedly gain experience. I'm not kidding. - Hmmm, it looks interesting, and given that you have at least one reliable source, then write something up and see what the others think. However, one thing that those pictures on Serebii indicate is that the HG/SS Pokémon might be using the
More CoroCoro info out
So apparently more scans are out with info about the Hoenn legendary trio, and some info about a possible tie-in with the Movie 12 Arceus. Any info that's actually worthwhile to add in? TheChrisD Rants•Edits 16:14, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well the way I can figure it from my analysis is that the the three Hoenn Legendaries have a better chance of being posted on this page first being that is more notable than the Arceus event. But once an administrator makes the choice it doens't matter to me if it will be full, partial, or no addition to the page. -Tyler53841 16:22, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Boxart now revealed
Firstly I would like to applaud you Sketch for removing the unneeded images since I had the same idea myself about not wanting the section to be too overcrowded.
But now the Boxart has been revealed as CoroCoro scans I am wondering if it should be posted because of its importance or postponed till better images are aquired? Course I am willing to wait over being too hasty. -Tyler53841 16:33, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- If I can have an opinion, I would say we should hold off as the news article said the Lugia and Ho-Oh on the box are don't match the official Japanese website. The only thing that could actually verify it that I would agree with is if someone compared the Lugia and Ho-Oh with the Lugia and Ho-Oh that were revealed on Pokémon Sunday, if they match then I would say it is a go... -MasterKenobi 17:40, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

- Last comment has my support since this was intended to affect when the box art should be posted on the page at some point in the near future and this is not supposed to be a forum chat. -Tyler53841 18:30, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

- I was talking about the "everyone's paying attention LIKE A HAWK" and the "We will have stuff up and ready as soon as time allows" parts. Sorry about the confusion. And I appreciate that you aren't spazzing like some users who would if you were them... R.A. Hunter Blade 18:40, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- It is because I am a patient person who is used to waiting and since this has value I just wanted to know what the game plan was. I may watch over this page, but I only comment when I feel I need to. If this situation had little importance like an average screenshot then I wouldn't have done anything. -Tyler53841 18:54, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- That's fine. I'm making sure you know. A lot of people tend to miss those, even though they're bigger than anything else on the page. xD R.A. Hunter Blade 18:58, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- My opinion on the boxart: too small at the current time for our purposes. We'll get it up probably in a few weeks when it appears on websites and such in high-res format. TTEchidna 00:58, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Agree with you there since the boxart is mixed in with the Magazine scan and it is better to wait for pictures that have no magazine scan in them. So this pretty much ends the discussion of the topic of when the should the boxart pictures should be posted on this page. No need to add anything to the discussion at this point -Tyler53841 03:33, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

New Area
I put in a bit about the new area near the National Park, but it was removed a few hours later with the comment "We'll wait until we know what that area is". We don't even know for sure that Soul isn't Kris (and that her name is Soul), yet she has an entire article. Should my thing be put back in? --Galladeon 03:40, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see a reason to mention it yet. We don't even know what it is. You weren't supposed to be able to edit the article anyway. The protection expired. -Sketch 10:59, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Confirmed?
All 493 Pokemon can follow you? Is that correct? I mean, I can't imagine a Pokemon the size of Regigigas following me into a house. Team Hyper (talk • contribs)

- The Steelix sprite appears to be no bigger than the player, and we know how big they are. --Galladeon 02:07, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Just because there is a picture with a wobbufett, pichu, cyndaquil, and steelix doesn't necessarily mean all 493 Pokémon can follow you around. -MasterKenobi 02:39, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Apparently the Japanese text on the scans confirms it. --Galladeon 02:42, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps... There's a restriction for certain exotic Pokémon, So if you want to take your Giratina for a walk, you'll probably get a message like, "It's too big!". The scans may say otherwise, but I can see this happening. Evidence for this is that Rayquasa appears in-game, and his sprite is pretty large, so I really think there'll be restrictions of sort. Team Hyper
- Do not discuss this here. I only allowed your original comment because it was asking if that was correct. All 493 Pokemon can follow you. There are no restrictions. Period. 493 means 493. -Sketch 11:13, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
New gameplay images
Now, there's more gameplay images, someone should put this here but it's protected.
