Zacian and Zamazenta

Hero duo is a fan term to refer to the Legendary duo of Galar, which consists of Zacian and Zamazenta. Zacian and Zamazenta are revered to be legendary heroes of the Galar region, said to have worked together in stopping Eternatus during the Darkest Day. Zacian harnesses a sword, while Zamazenta harnesses a shield, and they are the respective game mascots of Pokémon Sword and Shield.

History

Zacian and Zamazenta have a history going back to the Darkest Day, where it is believed that an ancient king of Galar called upon their help in stopping Eternatus. 3,000 years ago, prior to the events of Pokémon Sword and Shield, Eternatus tried to absorb Galar's energy in order to stay alive, which caused a black storm that caused several Pokémon to undergo Dynamax and Gigantamax transformations. However, the Pokémon lost control, almost destroying Galar. Zacian and Zamazenta worked together in order to take Eternatus down and save Galar. Afterwards, they vanished, and were eventually forgotten by history, their roles in the Darkest Day being covered up by statues of human heroes.

They reappear in the present day when one of ZacianSw or ZamazentaSh appears before the player and Hop when they travel to the Slumbering Weald to rescue a stray Wooloo, then quickly vanish. Later on, Chairman Rose attempts to reawaken Eternatus to provide Galar with bountiful energy, but loses control of it while Eternatus threatens to destroy the region. Hop and the player head to the Slumbering Weald once again, where they see Zacian and Zamazenta again. They pick up the Rusted Sword and Rusted Shield at the Slumbering Weald Shrine. Hop and the player face Eternatus at the top of the Energy Plant, and while they are put at a severe disadvantage being rendered unable to attack Eternatus, they immediately summon the Rusted Sword and Rusted Shield to summon Zacian and Zamazenta, who then work with Hop and the player to defeat Eternatus once more.

Post-game, ZamazentaSw or ZacianSh is lured into the top of Hammerlocke Stadium by Sordward and Shielbert in an attempt to destroy their reputation by making them go berserk. They do this by overloading them with the particles that caused several Pokémon to Dynamax. However, the Pokémon instead attacks ShielbertSw/SordwardSh. Hop, the player, and ZacianSw/ZamazentaSh arrive to calm the rampaging Pokémon down. The player then captures ZacianSw/ZamazentaSh, and the other Pokémon flees. ZamazentaSw/ZacianSh appears in the Slumbering Weald trying to be quelled by Hop, who successfully becalms the raging Pokémon, then captures it. They are then used in one last rivalry battle between Hop and the player, as the two become the new heroes of Galar.

Zacian, the Warrior Pokémon, is the game mascot of Pokémon Sword.

Its sword is said to be able to cut through anything without fail. Some say it is Zamazenta's elder sister, while some believe the two are rivals. It is known as the Fairy King's Sword.

Zacian is the more offensively oriented of the two wolves, especially when equipped with the Rusted Sword which activates its Crowned Sword Form. Its ability, Intrepid Sword, immediately raises its Attack stat by one stage upon entry into battle, which combined with its inherently high Attack stat, makes it an incredibly hard hitter.

Zacian is a pure Fairy-type in its Hero of Many Battles form, and bears identical base stats to Zamazenta in this form, however, it can access its Crowned Sword Form when equipped with the Rusted Sword. Its signature move, Behemoth Blade, does double its base damage when used against a Pokémon that is in Dynamax or Gigantamax form. Behemoth Blade is learned only in Zacian's Crowned Sword Form if it already knows Iron Head beforehand, which transforms into Behemoth Blade in battle.

Zacian is found at the top of the Energy Plant in Pokémon Sword.

Main article: Zamazenta (Pokémon)

Zamazenta, the Warrior Pokémon, is the game mascot of Pokémon Shield.

Its shield is said to deflect any attack with impunity. Some say it is Zacian's younger brother, others believe them to be rivals. It is known as the Fighting Master's Shield.

Zacian is the more defensively oriented of the two wolves, especially when equipped with the Rusted Shield which activates its Crowned Shield Form. Its ability, Dauntless Shield, immediately raises its Defense stat by one stage upon entry into battle, which allows it to endure many physical blows in tandem with its high Defense stat and many resistances.

Zamazenta is a pure Fighting-type in its Hero of Many Battles form, and bears identical base stats to Zacian in this form. It can access its Crowned Shield Form when equipped with the Rusted Shield. Its signature move, Behemoth Bash, deals double its base damage when used against a Pokémon that is in Dynamax or Gigantamax form. Behemoth Bash is learned only in Zamazenta's Crowned Shield Form if it already knows Iron Head beforehand, which transforms into Behemoth Bash in battle.

Zamazenta is found at the top of the Energy Plant in Pokémon Shield.
