Plusle (Japanese: プラスル Prasle) is an Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Plusle and Minun bear a remarkable resemblance to Pichu and Pikachu. Plusle are mostly a shade of cream with red accentuation. The accentuation of red are apparent on its large ears, cheeks, forepaws, and tails. Plusle's short tails have flat plus signs on the end of them, while their red cheeks are circular with plus signs voided in the middle. Plusle has a small, dot-like nose.

Special abilities

Plusle creates electrical pom-poms from its forepaws and sparks from its body to cheer on its partners.

Plusle's abilities in battle are basically the same as its cousin Pikachu except that Plusle has more Special Attack power than Pikachu (without a Light Ball) and is slightly faster. However, Plusle is unable to use Volt Tackle and Slam. On the other hand, Plusle learns more support moves than Pikachu, such as Baton Pass, Fake Tears, and Copycat.

Behavior

Plusle is a cheerful and supportive Pokémon, always encouraging comrades in battle by using the spark pouches in its cheeks. It is very compassionate towards its friends, and is known to cry upon witnessing a friend lose a battle. They are commonly referred to as cheerleaders for these actions. A Plusle may climb telephone poles to absorb electricity.

Plusle first appeared alongside Minun in A Different Kind of Misty. Both Pokémon were owned by Thatcher, who is responsible for protecting a lighthouse. The same Plusle and Minun appear again in Cheer Pressure, where Thatcher is training them to be cheerleaders.

Elijah used Plusle and Minun as actors in Lights, Camerupt, Action. The plot of the movie was that Pikachu, Plusle and Minun were setting out to rescue Princess Kirlia from an evil Exploud.

Plusle and Minun also appear as supporting characters in the film Destiny Deoxys, serving as the story's comic relief. The pair helps Tory Lund to overcome his fear of Pokémon.

Solana's Plusle also appears with her each time she herself makes an appearance, except Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Parts One and Two. It is the only one so far not to be seen with a Minun partner.

Another Plusle appeared in DP161 and DP162 alongside its counterpart under the ownership of Ursula.

In DP161, another one appeared in Dawn's flashback.

Excess data found on the game disc includes data for seven playable characters cut from the final roster, including Plusle and Minun as a tag team akin to the Ice Climbers. However, in the final version of the game, Plusle just appears as a random trophy alongside Minun.

• Pokémon Colosseum: A Plusle is Duking's favorite Pokémon. After Cipher kidnaps it, he is forced into inaction. Wes rescues the Pokémon and Plusle decides to join him as thanks.
• Pokémon Ranger: Plusle is the partner of Solana. After the end credits, it also feels a bond with Lunick.

Generation III Ruby Plusle always acts as a cheerleader for its partners. Whenever a teammate puts out a good effort in battle, this Pokémon shorts out its body to create the crackling noises of sparks to show its joy. Sapphire When Plusle is cheering on its partner, it flashes with electric sparks from all over its body. If its partner loses, this Pokémon cries loudly. Emerald It has the trait of cheering on its fellow Pokémon. By shorting out the electricity it releases from its paws, it creates pom-poms for cheering. FireRed It cheers on partners while scattering sparks from its body. It climbs telephone poles to absorb electricity. LeafGreen It cheers on partners while scattering sparks from its body. Trivia

• Oddly, Plusle can learn Fake Tears at both Level 21 and 31, but its partner Minun can only learn it once, at level 31.
• Plusle shares the same species name with its partner Minun. They are both known as Cheering Pokémon.
• Despite being based on a rodent-like creature, it is unable to breed with Pokémon from the Ground Egg Group (common to mammals); it is exclusive to the Fairy Egg Group.
• Pachirisu, Plusle, and Minun are the only non-legendary Electric-type Pokémon with no evolutions or Form changes.
• Plusle is considered by many fans to be a novelty Pokémon due to its general weakness unless paired in battle with Minun (or another Pokémon which has copied the ability Minus). It appears mainly to showcase the double battle system introduced in its generation.
• Plusle's ability is useless in single battles, and is only useful in double battles if Plusle is partnered with Minun.
• Plusle is the only Pokémon with the ability Plus.

It seems to be based on a mouse or rabbit.

Name origin

Plusle's name is based on plus, as in something with a positive electrical charge. A partial amalgam of pulse may also be present in its name.
