Heatran has metal bangles locked on its legs and the four claws on each of its feet are in a cross formation. Heatran has a gray underside, its face is covered by an iron mask and it has red-orange eyes. Whenever it is seen with its mouth open, an orange glow eminates from inside it. Trivia
- Heatran is the first, and so far only, legendary Pokémon that can either be male or female.
- No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Heatran.
- Heatran is the only Pokémon to take less than normal damage from both Dragon- and Template:Type2 moves, and that only occurs because of its ability, which gives immunity to Template:Type2 moves.
- Heatran and Steelix are the only non-Template:Type2 Pokémon to learn Stone Edge by level.
- Heatran is the last Template:Type2 Pokémon in National Pokédex order.
- Heatran has the highest Special Attack of any Template:Type2 Pokémon.
- Heatran is the seventh heaviest Pokémon.
- If Heatran faints in a battle when the player is trying to catch it , it will appear again in Stark Mountain in one week.
- Despite being unable to breed, Heatran is tied with Manaphy for the fastest hatch time among legendary Pokémon at only 11 egg cycles.
- Heatran is the only dual-typed legendary Pokémon which is neither Psychic- Flying-, nor Template:Type2.
- Heatran is the only Pokémon to have 1/4 resistance to four types: Template:Type2, Template:Type2, Template:Type2, and Template:Type2.
Origin
Heatran is most likely based on volcanic remains. Its Steel-typing references how the Earth's inner core is made of solid metal under immense pressure. It may also be based on a turtle, as the Pokemon Platinum Version dex entry states that it is melted in parts because of its own heat and in the artwork, you can see bits of metal, possibly a melted shell, on its body.
Name origin
Its name comes from the words heat and possibly transfer. The "-tran" may also come from transition metal, referring to its status as a Template:Type2 (note that steel itself is not a transition metal, but an alloy of one). The "doran" in its Japanese name can also be read as "dran", so it may be a combination of "heat" and "dragon".
In other languages
- German: Heatran
- French: Heatran
- Korean: 히드런 Hedrun
- Chinese (Taiwan and Hong Kong): 席多藍恩 Xí Duō Lán Ēn - Transliteration of its Japanese name.
