Metang (Japanese: メタング Metang) is a dual-type Steel/Psychic Pokémon.

It evolves from Beldum starting at level 20, and evolves into Metagross starting at level 45.

Biology

Physiology

Metang is a robotic lifeform that has a disc-shaped body with a pair of appendages that resemble Beldum. It has two red eyes and a pointy nose. Even though Metang and its evolved forms are mechanical creatures, they still have emotions, the need to eat and a way of reproducing. Metang has been said to be related to Magneton due to the fact that both of them are partially Steel-type that create electromagnetic waves to float in the air, and probably due to the fact that they evolve in a similar fashion, it takes two Beldum to evolve into a Metang and two Metang to evolve into a Metagross. When not levitating, it stands on its appendages, similar to its evolution. It may use its appendages like boosters to gain speed.

Gender differences

Metang is a genderless species.

Special abilities

Metang's body is magnetised, and it uses magnetism to move, communicate, and control its attacks. It is said to be related to Magneton, but Metang's magnetism focuses on Template:Type2 moves instead of Template:Type2 moves. Metang is capable of two rare Template:Type2 moves, Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash. It can also use some Psychic-type moves such as Psychic and Zen Headbutt. Metang has a few Rock-type moves at its disposal, such as Rock Tomb and Rock Slide. A couple of anomalies in Metang's movepool include Grass Knot and Sludge Bomb. Metang can also learn Hyper Beam, despite being second in a 3-tiered evolution line.

Behavior

Metang turns its arms to the rear for traveling at high speed, at over 60 miles per hour.

Habitat

Metang tend to live in areas with rough terrain, but they are even harder to find than Beldum (which are already very rare).

Diet

Trivia

  • Although it is said that Metang is made up of two Beldum, there is no visible evidence of this. In the only anime episode to date showing a Beldum evolution, Saved by the Beldum, when Morrison's Beldum evolves into Metang, it "creates" another Beldum and newly developed main body to evolve, instead of fusing with another Beldum. Likewise, if a Metang evolution is shown, it is highly unlikely it would involve two Metang evolving together. This is similar to the games.
  • Metang's number in the Hoenn Pokédex and the Fiore Browser is the same: 191. This makes it one of thirteen Pokémon (only five evolution families) to have the same numbers in more than one Pokédex-like listing.
  • In the earlier sprites, it has a small crease in his head. It does not show it the later sprites.

Origin

Metang has the features of two Beldum merged together, along with a flying saucer-like rim with spikes jutting out. It is also similar to a crab.

Name origin

Metang's name may be a combination of metal and the onomatopoeic sound of metal, tang. Metang's name is also an anagram of magnet.
