Monta (Japanese: モンタ Monta) is the main character of the manga series Pokémon Master Black & White.

Personality

History

Monta is a trainer just starting out on his journey with his starter Pokémon Snivy who aims to be a "Pokémon Battle Master". After sucessfully capturing a Minezumi, he hears a rustle in the grass and goes to look. To his suprise he finds a Minezumi and Miruhog and decides to capture it. After he attacks the two Pokémon start to run around in circles, he is about to throw another Poké Ball when Bel and Cheren appear. Cheren lectures im out what he is doing wrong as Monta is looking up Miruhoggu's Pokédex entry, and he vows one day he will capture a Miruhoggu.

He uses Snivy in a double battle with Cheren's Tepig against a Bike Gang King's Wargle, it looks like they were about to lose, but they uses a combination attack fainting Wargle. Monta battles Cheren in PBW02 using his Snivy, Hiyappu and Dangoro against Cheren's Tepig, Yanappu and Basurao. With Cheren vast knowledge of Pokémon and triple battles, it looked like Cheren could not lose, but was defeated by a powerful Rock Slide from Dangoro.

In PBW03 he captures an Emonga, suddenly he sees a cave and decides to go inside, he hears a rumble and suddenly a wild Doryuzu appears, he sends out Snivy who uses some impressive moves to capture it.

He then sees a Pokémon Ranger and they battle, the Ranger uses his Zeburaika and Swanna against his new Emonga and Snivy. The Ranger is very powerful and Monta has to recall Snivy for Doryuzu after Swanna's attack hit hard. The Ranger underestimated him though and Emonga and Doryuzu were able to knock out their opponents with one hit.

Pokémon

Snivy
Debut PBW01

Snivy is Monta's starter Pokémon and most powerful Pokémon and is best friends with it. Snivy is also very loyal. It was used in its first battle against a wild Minezumi, Monta ordered a Vine Whip which it uses and it hurts the Lookout Pokémon and it is then captured. It is then used in a Double battle against a wild Minezumi and Miruhog. He orders a Tackle on the Mirughog, just when he is about to capture it, Bel and Cheren appear.

Later uses it in a Double battle with Cheren's Tepig against a Bike Gang King's Wargle. It starts off with a Vine Whip, which does hardly any damage. Wargle uses Wing Attack hurting it badly. It is nearly taken out by a Fury Attack, and Monta gives it an Oran Berry to revive it and goes in with a Grass Oath with Fire Oath creating the combination needed to defeat Wargle.

It was used in a battle against Cheren's Tepig, Yanappu and Basurao with Hiyappu and Dangoro. Snivy started off with a Whirlwind which dies down before it could reach and gets hurt by Tepig's Ember. It attacks Basurao with a Vine Whip, but it switches with Tepig. After Hiyappu uses Surf and defeats Tepig, he has not noticed that Snivy has fainted too.

In PBW03 it is used to battle an Emonga, he weakens it with Grass Mixer before capturing it. Later the group enter a cave and suddenly the ground starts to rumble and a wild Doryuzu appears and battles Snivy. Using some impressive moves such as Grass Mixer and Pound, he is able to capture it.

It is then used in a battle against a Pokémon Ranger's Zeburaika and Swanna with Emonga. It is hurt badly by Swanna's Aerial Ace. It is badly hurt and Monta decides to recall it for Doryuzu.

Its known moves are Vine Whip, Tackle, Grass Oath, Whirlwind, Grass Mixer, Pound, Protect, and Slam.

Gantoru
Debut PBW02

Monta's Dangoro was first seen in a battle against Cheren's Tepig, Yanappu and Basurao with Snivy and Hiyappu. It gets hit badly by Hiyappu's Surf, leaving it with 1 HP from its Sturdy ability. It goes in for Rock Slide and surprisingly knocks both Yanappu and Basurao out, giving Monta the win. It reappeared in PBW04 as a Gantoru where Monta uses it in theBattle Subway.

Its known moves are Rock Slide, Knock Down, Rock Tomb, and Stone Edge and its ability is Sturdy.

Minezumi
Debut PBW01

Monta saw a wild Minezumi and decided to capture it, he sent out his Snivy and decided to captue it. He ordered a Vine Whip which hurt the Lookout Pokémon badly. He then threw a Poké Ball which successfully captured it.

Hiyappu
Debut PBW02

Monta's Hiyappu was first seen in a battle against Cheren's Tepig, Yanappu and Basurao with Snivy and Dangoro. It used a powerful Surf which hurt everyone on the battle field, knocking both Snivy and Tepig out.

Its only known move is Surf.

Emonga
Debut PBW03

Monta's Emonga was first seen in a battle against his Snivy, Snivy was able to weaken it with a Grass Mixer and capture it successfully. It is then used in a battle against a Pokémon Ranger's Zeburaika and Swanna with Snivy. It goes in with an Elecball attack on Swanna but suddenly the attack misses and his Zeburaika is hit instead. The ranger explains that Zeburaika's Lightningrod ability pulls electric attacks towards it instead. It is hurt slightly by Swanna's BubbleBeam, but defeats Swanna with one hit from a ThunderShock attack.

Its known moves are Elecball and ThunderShock.

Doryuzu
Debut PBW03

Monta's Doryuzu was first seen when Monta entered a cave suddenly the ground started to rumble and Doryuzu appeared, using Grass Mixer and Pound by Snivy, Monta was able to capture it. It is then used in a battle against a Pokémon Ranger's Zeburaika and Swanna with Emonga after Snivy was recalled. Doryuuzu uses Sandstorm, changing the weather conditions of the battle. It then uses Dig digging underground near Zeburaika. The ranger underestimates Doryuzu's strength and it faints Zeburaika with one Dig. Monta explains that using its ability Sand Power which raises its attacks and doubles the power of the Dig.

Its known moves are Sandstorm and Dig, its ability is Sand Power.
