Gigalith (Japanese: ギガイアス Gigaiath) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Gantoru when traded. It is the final form of Dangoro.

Biology

Physiology

Gigalith is a mainly blue-colored, quadruped Pokémon, with various spiny, crystal-like red features jutting out of its body. The joints of its limbs are gray-colored, and its limbs are topped with red crystal-like features, with the two claws on each limb being similar features. Several of the crystalline features are present on Gigalith's face; three being below its red eyes with yellow corneas, one, in the middle, forming some kind of crest, and the other crystals to the sides of its head.

Special abilities

It compresses energy in the core inside its body that is enough to blow away mountains. It can also store sunlight in its orange crystals and shoot powerful energy from its mouth.

Trivia

• Gigalith was first seen in a triple battle with teammates Ranculus and Gothiruselle against Blitzle, Darmanitan and Mogurew, during an Oha Suta episode which aired on June 27, 2010. It was not revealed in earnest until August 7, 2010.
• Gigalith is the only pure Rock-type third-stage Pokémon.
• Gigalith's evolutionary line shares similarities with Golem's family. Both of them are Template:Type2, learn Stealth Rock, Knock Down, Explosion, Stone Edge and Rock Blast by level-up, first evolve at level 25, then reach the final evolutionary stage by trading.

Origin

It seems to be based on a crystal formation.

Name origin

Gigalith's English and Japanese names may have been derived from "Gigas", a term used to describe a race of chthonic (Earth-associated) giants in Greek mythology, and "monolith". It could also be derived from Goliath, or a combination of "giga", meaning billion, and "lithos", meaning stone. Because Gigalith seems to be based on a crystal formation, its name could also be derived from the huge igneous intrusive rock body known as a batholith. The Japanese name may also be derived from "Gaia", the Greek goddess personifying the Earth.
